Harrow Blade's charater guide:

The First question you should ask is why.
I would like to become a dervish, in the campaign. A friend is playing a Jotunbrud Cleric and I am his normal sized Bigger-little brother. (this charater is only a year older then him) Maybe another reason for his profession could be the city in wich he grew up within.

Do you have a family?
Family yes, a brother named Dunstan, he is a cleric of Angoron. A powerful, martial and chaotic god, Angoron represents the virtue of Courage as well as perseverance. The undisputed ‘strongest of the gods’, Angoron is often joyfully followed by good natured barbarians and fighters who wish to experience the joys and pleasures of the world while also protecting those who cannot protect themselves. His greatest creations are also his greatest failings; The Titans. Their fall and corruption still mars creation to this day. He is most popular amongst the people of Stormgarde, Dran and honorable cultures of giants, beastmen and, orcs. Due to the number of cultures he influences, the stories that contain him and the folklore of the first age of the world concerning him are legion. He also had many ancient battles with Caracoroth the Hound of the Hells whose own ambitions included the destruction of Eluna, whom Angoron loved. He would often adventure together in the ancient stories with Tarien the Bard King and there are numerous stories of his dalliances with beautiful elves, humans, dwarves and giants that have produced champions and heroes of unmeasured strength and skill.

Parents live in a city called Dran. They have yet to be named or really given any professions. However here is a bit of the birth city.

The Mercenary Warlords of the Dran:The Barbarian Empire of Dran has a violent history, filled with turbulent periods of civil strife, warfare, barbarism and enforced natural selection that has helped breed some of the most terrifying warriors the world has known. Bloody battles, merciless warlords, harsh weather conditions and the furious Dran temper give rise to warriors, warlords, barbarians and madman of the likes that Aeryth has never seen. Ruled by a council of Warlords known as The Khans and the Emperor upon its Iron Throne, Dran remains a continued threat to stability and peace. If Dran is known for anything, it is their powerful warriors. Their people are of tremendous physical stature. Some of them are truly giant like and those not known for their stature tend to excel in other areas that have to do with warfare. The reason why this region of the continent has always been embroiled in battle and has had the passion of strength and war within it is something often debated.

Are they dead or alive?
Still alive, but would be willing to say they just died and this could be another reason he is out to see his brother.

What is your relationship with your family?
Randan loves his family, he is particuliarly close to his younger yet larger brother, family life was peacefilled and nurtureing, except when the boys went at their play. I am invisioning lots of situations where his younger brother would chase him, tie him up and make him devolope his fast mobility along with some of his rouge skills.

Did your family influence your decision to begin adventuring?
Dunstan left, for the curch their was nothing left to entertain himself, he became involved in the Dran army focusing his life on his blades, and upon hearing of his brothers travels into Alexandria, he followed excited to be along side his brother once again.

Were you part of the majority race in your home land?
yes Majority of Dran's population were humans

Were you subject to persecution?
The madmen of Dran probally did put him through some persecution but i have no clear image on this.

Did you grow up rich or poor?
Avarage family

Do you bear a trait that identifies you as coming from a particular area?
His fighting style is rather dervish or blade danceing in anycase, this is how i invision him. Probally traited after the Dran training.

Did you choose your class or did it choose you?
Class kinda devoloped within me from an early age to his passion with blades, as mentioned

Was there a pivotal point in your life?
He may have had sevral issues with the dran army not being a barbarian and trying to prove himself in skill and worth. He might have had some intresting points, but I have no set idea on this.

Why do you continue to adventure?
To be along side his brother.

What is it that makes you unique?
He is a rouge from Dran, that in it's self is kind of unique.

Do you have a hobby?
Randan's hoby however wierd as it might seem is weaving, he takes some intrest in weaving things from grass and other natural mediums

Do you have a distinct feature?
He dose have odd eyes, but i do have a description for him.:
Before you stands a sun tanned form of a young man, no older then 18. He holds himself with a confident and elusive air. He stands just less than six feet in height; every movement within his body seems disciplined and steady.

His silver blond hair is loose and a little wild, allowing shadows to brush his features in mysterious caresses. A weathered face that shows much exposure to the open environment; his eyes settle the most attention, the left eye is a deep green, with golden, while the right is a striking shade of cobalt blue. Peering out at the world, he catches many things within his cold steady gaze. His lips are gentle and thin, and his nose is sharp on his face, not making him look ugly, but much like a predator.

He is dressed within a wood brown cloak, accented with golden thread sweeps along his body, hiding anything he might wear beneath. His leggings are made of a soft worked hide, tight to his form to keep from catching on anything he passes. His feet are covered by the same material and are brown to the color, as if in attempt to camouflage himself to his surroundings.

What do you want your character to achieve?
Primary goal is to be a renowned blade fighter

Do you want your character to take Prestige Classes in the future? If yes, do you need an "role-play" reason for that? Does your DM require a specific training to take a Prestige Class?
Yes they do and yes I would like to be a dervish

For your character, is progressing in a Prestige Class a long term goal, or is it only a mean for higher goals?
I think as he achieves his goals new goals will be set but there is always something in play that guides a charater. so right now the prestige is a means for higher goals as it should be to keep the charater intresting. I have no firm idea set on what he is to become after at this time.

Is there a chain of feats you want to take (like whirlind attack)? If yes, is it a long-term goal your character wants to reach? Or does each feat is chosen one at a time?
Combat Expertise, Weapon Focus, Weapon Finance, Blind fight, Spring attack, and Whirlwind attack are my ideas currently. This is likely to change as new feats open up with the combanation of others.

Ah... Then a little more notes are in order. Can you please post your character sheet? :)

Things like your feat selection, starting level and even stats help in fleshing out your character (at least, that's how I do it). A good starting point for a story can be where the character is training to get a particular feat (even at Level 1).

Descriptive text comes from his stats. Is he buff (Str 14+) or not (Str 8-)? Charming (Cha 14+)? Things like hair and eye color, visible features (scars or birthmarks) will help in the telling of the story too.

Skills will help fill in the activities that your character could be doing too.

Lets see now...

Dran was as harsh an environment for anyone teenager to grow up in... and more so for Randan, being of average built and all. The target of bullies all too often, Randan did not complain but learned to rise above the beatings he took from the other more robust kids in his neighbourhood.

Learning to weave and escape from others thrilled Randan, but it wasn't enough. No, Randan had to learn how to fight his own way too because his younger brother Dunstan (which he loves dearly) was equally adept at getting himself in trouble.

Dunstan was the opposite of his brother, always picking fights, trying to defend the weak and usually bites off more than he could chew. And Randan, ever watchful and mindful, would sneak around the back to flank his opponents while Dunstan picks a fight.

I am glad that you were able to use the guide I put together to help add depth to your Character. I am not familiar with Dran but I will see what I can do with the detail you have provided, please forgive any mistakes i might make.

In the city of Dran where the men were tall and strong, where strength of arms and brute force is prized above all Randan, eldest son of a weapon smith and weaver, was never going to fit in. Randan, unlike his younger brother and every other child of Dran was slight of build and moved like a cat. When the other boys were out lifting heavy rocks just to see if could and waving around tree branches trying to knock each other down or out Randan was either helping his mother with the weaving or running and hiding from the other boys who felt it was thier duty tie up the scrawny kid and beat him till he grew some muscles.

Randan's younger brother Dunstan had long looked up to his brother as Randan had deep love for his family but this changed the day Dunstan was old enough to join the older boys at thier school, which was more of a training ground for warriors, and was shamed to see his brother picked on and beaten, unable to fight back. When Randan saw this look of shame in his younger brothers eyes something changed in side him. A determination hardened within him and he resolved that never again would he see that shame in his brothers eyes again.

Randan went to his father begging him to teach him how to fight, how to use the many weapons that adorned his shop. His father, proud that his eldest had developed a martial passion, began gathering weapons to teach his son but to his and his son's dismay all the weapons were far too large and heavy yet Randan detremined to secure the his brothers respect trained until he fell to the floor in exhaustion, tears streaming down his face in frustration.

That night, inspired by his sons courage but equally frustrated by Randans slight build, his father set about forging weapons that would be more suitable to his son's physical dispostion. As morning's light streamed into the smithy Randan found his father putting the finishing touches to two of the most marvelous weapons he had ever seen. Each was probly half the size of the regular weapons used by the inhabitants of Dran but each was razor sharp and perfectly balanced (you can add which ever weapons you want them to be). Picking up first one and then the other Randan knew he had found his martial calling.

Randan trained and trained with his new weapons and his family watched as his skill grew but this was not enough for the commanders of the training schools, they weren't about to let some whelp waving a pair of kitchen knives into thier army. This time however Dunstan was proud of his brother for he knew the skill his brother had and such was his dissillusionment with the army proper he joined the clergy of Angoron.

Time passed and each boy grew Randan lithe and swift of body and wits, Dunstan blessed cleric of Angoron and powerful of body and spirit. However the Lords and Generals of Dran were nevr ones to sit idle whilst nearby countries invited conqurering and so the armies were gathered and Dunstan was pressed into service whilst Randan was ignored, told to go and join the women in the weaving house for he'll never be a warrior.

As the days and then weeks passed Randan grew restless, he missed his brother and could find no motivation or desire to stay in the city. Finally unable to bear his moping about his parents gave him leave to follow his brother, seek him out. "Go and find your brother" they told him. "this war has no honour in it. Find your brother and get him out of the army. but know that you may never be able to return to this city for you will be as enemies to the lords of Dran."
Full of joy at going to be with his brother yet full of sadness that he will be leaving his family Randan set out the next day. He finally found his brother and told them what his parent had said. Together they resolved to champion good and left the armies of Dran in the dead of night.

Here starts the adventures of Randan and Dunstan.

I hope this is something close to what you were looking for. :)
