Help make my very shy character. [Archive] - Wizards Community

My character works like this. He was bred (or simply created, if you want to make him an Elan) for a specific skill. The skill did not flower out in him at the time his creators were hoping, and they started abusing him to 'bring out' his skills he was bred for.

He was eventually kicked out of their area, and told to never come back. Soon enough, he saved a young woman's life with said ability, and he came through full-fledged.

He's Neutral Good, and EXTREMELY shy. He doesn't talk to anyone he doesn't know, and he only attached to one person (the said girl). She translates language for him because he is too shy to speak to someone else.

The stats I rolled for him are 18, 18, 15, 13, 11, and 11. For the life of me, though, I can't figure out what race or class to make him.

Can you guys help me? He can be any race/class, the only defining characteristic is he has to be male and you have to use those numbers I just set out. You can use any 3.0-3.5 Supplement to help me make this character.

Any stabs?

I'd say make him a sorcerer or some other natural caster. I'd think that from there on in, things will work out themselves.

A Sorcerer or Psionic, perhaps human, halfling, Kobold(?)

Kobold Sorcerer for what you're looking for. Its small size and natural fear of the outside world along with Kobold's standards for sorcerers (They breed only when they need more Kobolds) would make a perfect shy character. (Wow...two 18s...I'm jealous)

Str 11 (15 Before mods)
Dex 13 (11 before mods)
Con 16 (18 before Mods, +3 HP each level for extra endurance)
Int 13
Wis 11
Cha 18 (Breeding, his "Awakening abilities")

You can swap the Strength and Intelligence stats on him, but either way you've got a pretty good sorcerer. Sorcerer is also his preferred class, so you can cross-class him.

Languages:
Draconic
Common

I'll let you do the reat.

Reasons I like Kobolds:

One of the few small races with a speed of 30.
You can do funny voices with them.
I've found a larger variation of minis for them.
They get Trapmaking as a skill no matter what class they are, making them good rogues as well as sorcerers. Their upped speed puts them on par with halflings as rogues since it makes them easier to sneak attack.
They have a natural armor bonus
Darkglass Goggles (Basically sunglass goggles that cost 10 GP when made from broken bottles) for the outside.
They're so darn CUTE!!

Someone who is shy definatly has no Cha 18+, he probably has a very low cha, and poor cha skills, so anything except bard/sorc/paladin will probably do. Maybe he is a wizard, just interrested in learning more magic, when he knows how to finaly use it properly.

I agree. I'd ask the DM if I could lower his CHA to increase another stat...as even an 11 in charisma is fairly average. If I were you I'd make him some sort of magically bred slave...perhaps a half-giant or ogre. He had some magical doo-hicky implanted in him by X, or perhaps had Y mother and wasn't quite as strong as they wanted.

I see your point. Perhaps he's bred to be Psionic, a rarity in Kobold society, adn the expectations put on him were too high. As I know next to nothing on Psionics I'll let you guys throw him together.

Still, for the shyness, I think A Kobold is the perfect race for RP purposes. You guys agree?

Since all books are allowed, Psionics are allowed. However, it's a very real possibility that almost everyone in the world is not psionic. Indeed, the only exceptions might be if I need a trainer for a specific Psionic PrC. So, my next question would quite possibly be: do Psionics interact well with a predominantly unpsionic world?

My next question is to the poster who posted a half-giant/orc/insert big-ass guy here. That sounds like an AWESOME idea! In fact, I'd change my story a bit to fit that, what are good classes and PrCs that would work with that?

Planetouched might be a good idea (In its many forms, outside of only tieflings and aasimar). Half Dragon, blah blah blah.

If you're doing an NPC Kobold, perhaps a Tiefling Adept? (Lowered Charisma, increased Dex and Int, +1 level adj, plenty of good natural abilities to include.)

Or, for Half-giant or Half-Orc, perhaps a Bar-bar-barbarian! His rage might be what saved the woman's life!

Im going to respectfully disagree with you on this point. Your stats are your capabilities, your potential. Even though he is normally shy, he could still be capable of evoking a strong sense of presense, perhaps pity. As an example from anouther stat. Just because a fighter may prefer the use of cross-bows does not preclude the posibility of him being strong as Atlas.

Or perhaps in this case he has a very bold or attractive appearance but because of his treatment does not realize that (s)he is naturaly likeable.

Well someone who is shy, will have a poor/no existant Initmidate/diplomacy, which are both Cha skills(if I'm correct). Someone who is shy, has a hard time convincing people of his ideas, bluff his way out of things, or scare people, thus low Cha and low number of ranks in those skills.

Perhaps a Warforged?

Innately lower Cha...maybe he's a Psion? And maybe he has the ability to Overchannel? That could be his unique special ability he barely knows how to harness.

Not true: as an example,
playing as a steet-theif child->
to dm: I would like to make a diplomacy check, I want to appear pitiable so that the angry merchant does not yell for the guards.

Just because it has been in your personality to be meek or withdrawn does not mean that you do not have the capability of projecting yourself. Heck charisma doesnt even have to come completely from personality. Imagine a concubine with a perfect body, face, and amazing grace (elements of High charisma). However, because of his/her master's treatment, they may be extremely timid.

Hate to burst everyone's bubble but everyone is correct.

From the SRD -
Charisma measures a character’s force of personality, persuasiveness, personal magnetism, ability to lead, and physical attractiveness. This ability represents actual strength of personality, not merely how one is perceived by others in a social setting.

Ok, will stop hijacking this thread now.

A truely shy character will just stumble when asked by guards. Besides a sorc uses charisma as force of will and personality, not appearance. thus a shy character will not be a sorc, nor a bard IMHO.

I played a character much like this, and she was a Wilder (from the Psionics book). The idea was that she kept her emotions largely repressed, but when threatened she would lash out psionically, crippling or killing those around her - and thus triggering a whole new wave of guilt and self-repression.

The fun in that character was having her struggle to do good despite these problems, and watching her gradually come out of her shell. She was chaotic good, and I imagined her gradually growing in power and confidence until she was a true force for good. But of course, all that can change, depending on the events of the campaign...

A sorcerer or even barbarian could be developed in a similar vein (maybe you were bred with some sort of savage spirit inside you, which lets itself eb shown in moments of uncontrollable berserker rage... or something).

Race-wise, I played human. Depending on your situation, any race might work, but I'd avoid elves, dwarves, and other mystical long-lived types; it's hard to reconcile those races' archetypical pride and willfulness with the instability you're imagining. If not human, then halfling or gnome might be good choices, to reflect the "smallness" your character feels.
