In what I hope will be an upcoming sci-fi game I'm playing a gun toting mercenary. What I've sort of been going for is something like Jayne from Firefly, with a touch of Tyr from Andromeda. This is the guy that carries around a really big gun, but also has a zillion smaller guns, as well as knives and other killy things.

He often says things like: "Happiness is a belt-fed weapon"

"Name's Melvin Lenette, those who know what's good for 'em call me Mel, although 'sir' is also becoming very popular."

"It may be that your sole purpose in life is simply to serve as a
warning to others."

"Yes, but whose problem is that?"-In response to "you're ****ing crazy man!"

His most prized possession are his really big gun (called Skadi, after the viking goddess of mountains and hitting people a with a big axe), his disemboweling knife (specially engineered for the sole purpose of viciously gutting people, he calls it Vidar, after the viking god of vengence and general badassness)

But so far he seems a touch 2 dimensional. I don't know much about the setting, other than it's anarchy with a touch of feudalism, and people still use firearms.

Any ideas?

What is his religion?
Does he have any loyatlies?
Any pet peeves or fetishes (perhaps he plays Warhammer or something)?
Any hates?
Is he a racist?
Does he have a phobia (Afraid of water, dark, cats, anything?)
Does he have a love?
Is he straight?
What is his favorite food?
How educated is he?
Does he have a family?
Are they dead?
Was he once a female and got an operation (will certainly make him intresting!)

My character is a Priest who works for a militant arm of the church and was disgraced for seducing a nun. Make something intresting by answering the questions above

Thanks Aki Warren, those are good questions. Some of them will require me to ask the GM more about the setting.

I don't know anything aobut the religions of the setting, but if they're the same the ones IRL he'll be Catholic (but not a very good one, "forgive me father for I have sinned, quite a bit").

I'm trying to decide if he should really be a backstabbing, looking-out-for-number-one-style-merc, or if he should possess a fierce loyalty to his team, perhaps considering them to be family.

If I can get him high intelligence without sacrificing combat ability I'm gonna have him be very literate (quotes Nitzche and Sun Tzu).

If I decide to give him strong loyalty to the group then he will definately have either a dead family or have never known his family.
