Hi all

Up till recently I have been focused more on character optimisation than story. I am starting in a new campaign, which is running gestalt, and needs a rogue and cleric.

I have decided (from my optimisation mindset) to go with a pixie due to the good rogue synergies, however, I need help making him believable.

Here is some info for you:
Name: Anilebmuht
Align: CN
Domains: Charm/Magic (Charm and Magic both fit with Pixie, I think)
I am concentrating on the social rogue skills more than the adventuring rogue skills. He will be a 'tricksy' pickpocket, who uses diplomacy and charm spells to keep out of trouble.
We are starting at ECL 11

Questions I have:
Why is there a pixie/rogue/cleric in the city?
Where did he come from?
What are his motivations?

I have not written up a backstory for chars before - the DM did not require it, but I want to get more into the head of this character than before.

Can anyone help?

Sounds like a pretty sweet idea, if your dm allows it, try and get your pixie to take the divine prankster prc from races of stone... its pretty much a cleric rogue all the way.

As for your questions.

1)Any number of reasons, could be sent their by their god (who is?) to cause as much chaos and trick as many people as possible... really it depends on the god. Maybe the character was sent there to retrieve an item of importance, possible stolen from the character, or they want to steal it themselves.

2)The character could come from anywhere, and enchanted forest, and underwater cave, a back water village of gnolls, gods and gorilla's.. .who knows... just make up something appropriate.

3)Greed, to cause as much trouble as possible... perhaps the character hopes to cause some great even to occour by doing all these apparently minor pranks. A butterfly effect belief of some sort "if i trip this guy, and steal this womans shoe, the two will meet and have a child who will save the village of.....blah blah". kinda of a plan brought about by chaos.... dunno.. sounds kinda cool, i might try it myself.

Anyway, hope atleast some of this helps, im kinda out of it at the moment, more later hopefully.

Thanks for the input. Quite helpful

I am now looking at Olidammara as deity (Mind and Trickery Domains). I will try get my DM to look at divine prankster - just need to remove the gnomish influence from it, and make it something like Requires Trickery Domain.

Any other thought from anybody else on fleshing this char out.

What is the life span for a pixie? Perhaps was he living there long before the city was built. The human settlers let a groove between a few houses (perhaps because that groove was "haunted" - by your pixie?), so the pixie still somewhat felt at home. He spent a long time playing pranks on his neighbours, showing himself when there was some music. From times to times, humans were visiting him for some magical help.

Now why is he adventuring? Perhaps someone asked him to do a favour (bringing back a fleeing child who happen to be another PC), perhaps the city authorities decided to cut down his groove, perhaps is he on his way for the annual fair given by the Fey Queen?

Check the various link in my sig for tricks to create a background. Also, go to the main WotC site, and search in the archives a serie of articles named Fey Features, it deals with the feys in general and specifically the Seelie and Unseelie courts.
