| Marauderk02-18-05, 03:53 PM | Hello Well my DM want me to play a Paladin in his game and i said great no problem as i like to play them, but he said great i will send over all the info. Well i got a suprise when he noted that he wants me to play a Grimlock out of the underdark book. Well i got the book and found out what they are and am stumped on how to come up with back ground for him and how he would have become a paladin. I have never played anything out of the core book but this is something that he asked me to do for him. |
| SD02-18-05, 06:05 PM | What's the difference between the Underdark grimlock and the MM grimlock? While I have the core books and can work from those, I have a skin condition where touching any product from a published campaign setting instantly sets me aflame. |

Grimlocks being evil and such.. however.. if you have access to the Unearthed Arcana you could try the Paladin of Slaughter Varient there in. Alternatively, the Blackguard is always an option for people who want to play paladin-esque charectors while being Evil. Hope this advice is of some help. |

According to the MM, "often" means "A plurality (40-50%) of individuals have the given alignment, but exceptions are common." This is a notable change from 3.0, where they were "always neutral evil". So yeah, a grimlock paladin isn't likely per se, but it's no less likely than a CG grimlock barbarian except that the stats really don't fit a paladin. |

The greatest difference between a grimlock and another humanoïd creature is their blindness. For a grimlock, the mere idea of seeing something is a bit like feeling nuclear radiation without some equipment: completely abstract. Detecting evil is a new way for your grimlock to explore his environment. Paladin is quite unlikely for a grimlock. Most of them are NE, the rest is mostly LE or CE. A few neutral ones, perhaps some good-aligned ones. But a paladin??? Your grimlock should really have met someone to introduce him to this class! Probably another paladin. Now there is two choice: the paladin was lost in the underdark, or the grimlock was lost on the surface. Either way, the two of them met somewhere, they became friends, and the paladin hired the grimlock as a squire, to finally become a paladin himself. Basically, that's the skeleton I can think of. |

The DM for the game is a very good DM but tends to be out there on the races and classes. It will be a surface game and from what i understand of his custom world there are many races and that a Grimlock aboveground would not be so strange. I had thought of saying that the Grimlock was young and on a surface raid and was captured by the village and then worked to help repair the damage and just try to figure out what went on from there. By book also said that most Grimlock are Neutral only being evil because they have to to survive. Errr the boss calls will finish later |
