Happy new year :)

I'm starting a new game soon with my friends and I'm unable to find my character's last name.

Her name is Sublime, which can be translated from french as gorgeous, beautiful. She's a CG beguiler/wizard going for ultimate magus PrC, although I'm playing her like a bard. The mechanic goal is to make a bard without taking a level in the bard class.

Sublime's draconic heritage (spontaneous spellcasting) first manifested in her adolescence during her singing lessons through various illusions and spontaneous love declarations.

After being rejected and called a freak, she enlisted in a wizardry school and tried to understand what was happening to her. Years later, diagnosed has a sorcerer, she really understood the potential magical power in her voice. She tried to bridge to bridge the gap between spontaneous and spellbook casting, hoping to fully release the magical power inherent to her melodic voice.

The more Sublime understood her "uniqueness", the more she wanted to take adventage of it. Her lust for magical power is her main reason for adventuring. She sees her quest has a personal challenge and a way to achieve wealth and luxury. She will start the campaign as a barmaid, singing for a local popular band.

Sublime is an arrogant woman and seems to be overconfident, although most of the time her judgement about people and her abilities is accurate. Even if she projects an image of sweetness, people who scratch behind the surface see how cold she is really.

This is the short version of her backstory, now what I need is a last name. I was thinking something like "Sybianis", but it doesn't sound right.

Here's her (home made :D) character portrait (http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m114/jadestrike/Sublime.jpg), I hope it will inspire some of you.

Thanks for helping

Wow,
that home-brew pic (can you say CUTE!).. just curious, original source off the net from a movie or something?

The last name depends on some parameters, namely what kind of campaign is being run. In my experience, the names run in three categories: the clearly humourous for nonserious campaigns, the totally serious RPG campaigns, and the less-than-utterly-stone-cold-serious-more-fantastic campaigns. The humourous campaigns I've been in had PC names like "Bourbon Whiskeybutt", while the totally serious RPG campaigns tend to use PC names that never use any actual words (except possibly in a supposed racial language) and instead are more like names you'd see in a Tolkien book.

Obviously, "sublime" is an actual word so I'm guessing you want a name somewhere in the middle, chosen more for the sake of coolness while maintaining the fantasy of the campaign world.

JUST some random names I pulled from my head, that are along this vein of thought. Character names tend to be personal but hopefully they'll inspire you back:

Sublime Allandin
Sublime Syllabliss
Sublime Kaiil -- pronounced "Kay ill"
Sublime Maliciess -- sometimes antonyms are fun
Sublime Chord -- if her whole family favours the bardic tradition

I like the word "bliss" in Syllabliss, which makes some kind of sense for a character named Sublime. Since we are playing D&D in french, I don't think my friends will catch the "bliss" pun in her last name, so the name will sound like a serious one to them and that's exactly what I wanted.

Thanks for this interesting lead :)
