| JamsTheHobbit10-10-03, 04:32 PM | Alrighty, I'm running a Tiefling 1/ Monk 7 char for a new 3.5 game next week. Here's what I've come up with so far- Seatlin Steadheart was born the son of a pair of travelling carvnival/circus sideshow acrobats, renown for their odd appearances and amazing tricks. Raised in the acrobatic tradition of his parents, Seatlin began to perform alongside his parents at a young age. I really like the concept of a cricus acrobat becoming a monk and I think many of the skills transcend into the class (jumping, slow falling, tumbling). However, I'm unsure of how I can work the combat protion of the class into the character history as well as a definitive reason why a successful acrobat would choose to go adventuring. I also had hoped to turn him into a shadowdancer in later levels, so any affinity for the shadows would be helpful. Thx in advance. |

If he's lawful in nature, he may eventually grow tired of the constant moving of the traveling carnival. Maybe he wants friends outside the show, an actual house to live in, and some purpose in life other than trying to impress people for your next meal. A monastery may be a natural choice. Somewhere where he can hone his skills for something more meaningfull [ie, spiritual development]. Otherwise, someone in the show may have been a Monk in their past, and they trained him. His martial arts could be mostly in stage-fighting.. perhaps he's never actually had to fight anything or anyone with his fists before.. but that doesn't mean he doesn't know how. ~Ginger |

Part of the show can be sharing some obscure wisdom with childrens. I like the concept of a Tiefling Monk, especially a LG or LN one. He knows he got evil ancestor, he even have claws, but his redemption pass through the use of Monk hability instead of fighting with his claws. An orphan raised in a monastery is becoming the "common" history of most Monk here... |

Perhaps he was trained in wresting by the strongman, stick fighting by the tightrope walker, using a sling by some halfling clowns, and some general martial arts by some of the few general laborers. Maybe one of them could be a monk who grew disenchanted with life in the monastery and left to meditate on the world and is just using the circus as a vehicle to get around. |
