| SavonDrake02-18-08, 10:19 PM | Well, I am finding myself sort of a character again. And this time there was one race that struck me as "This is almost exactly like my characters race." That Race was a Mongrelfolk From races of destiny. His name is Randal Ras and has a pet dog named Shade. His background was something like his parents disowned him at a young age becuase of his looks. He travels from town to town, not looking for a place to call home, but to make a living. He hasn't mush friends other then Shade and he has come to this town looking for a good job. Although he is naturaly giffted as a thief, he trys not to steal because he feels it wrong. He is kind hearted and fallows a morral code, but does not think of what people think of him making him lawfull neutral. Well thats all the info I got, sory if it isn't enough, but I will try to give you more info if you need it. |

| zacnn02-19-08, 03:47 PM | Couldn't a mongrolfolk be born to a diffrent race, concedering that they are part of all races? |
| SavonDrake02-19-08, 11:07 PM | ya, thats what I was thinking, well maybe thats not a good idea then becuase then I'd have to go into to much detail about his genetics... Maybe his folks died somehow? Honostly I never try to get to deep into the background. I have edited the base plot a bit though. Parents died by an unknown chouse and he tavels around to look for odd jobs to get enough gold to keep him alive. I desided he does not have a dog, I was also thinking of making him take levels in shadow dancer to get a shadow and maybe get it better HD. Other then that, my guy is travleing with no one at all. I'll add a little of a rught draft as soon as I have the time to sit down and think. If I am lucky (witch I am not 90% of the time) I will have it before tomorrows end. |
| SavonDrake02-20-08, 09:21 PM | Man, lots harder to think of a background then I thought, I don't want not to have a background, and its really hard to cone up with a good one, can someone help with a guttersnipe background? Like give me a link to a thread that helps guttersnipes of give me the main guestions for a guttersnipe? |
| Orchomenos02-21-08, 10:55 AM | Couldn't a mongrolfolk be born to a diffrent race, concedering that they are part of all races? Perhaps he doesn't know his true parents, even more what race they were! Let's say they abandonned him on some hill because he was too ugly, and he was adopted by some animals (Romulus & Remus, Mowgly, Tarzan), by some shepherd (Paris, Oedipus) or by some wandering gypsies (Sans Famille, Count of Montecristo). |
| SavonDrake02-25-08, 10:28 PM | Ok, well I desided to find a background generater and it just so happens that Wizards had kindly made one for people like me. I have seen... about 10 examples and have peaced togeather my own background plot. Well really I made to, which on do you gues think is better? Background 1 Both of the NPC's parents died, leaving the NPC to fend for himself. The NPC is/was on good terms with his parents. The NPC is an only child. The character's family were left behind by the NPC, who came to this land. Well, truthfully, the family is shunned by the community. The NPC has become hated by the inhabitants of an entire city or large institution (like a church or order of knighthood) who turn(s) the local authorities against him. Luckily, though, the character also has earned the respect of a town or guild-like organization and allies who provide him with equipment. Important Events At one point in the character's life, he found himself in a situation that made him so angry that he couldn't control his temper. The resulting display of uncontrolled rage caused him to alienate someone he loved or lose something very precious to him. Because of the character's earlier display of temper, the he has tightly controlled emotions or sometimes gives in to bouts of reckless anger. The character saved the life of a world-weary traveler and received a gift in exchange for his efforts: a magical +1 weapon. This weapon has a special place in the character's heart, and he will not forsake it for another without excellent cause. Background 2 Only one of the NPC's parents is alive, and in poor health. The NPC has lost contact with his parents or did so prior to their death. The NPC is an only child. The character's family is an old, established one and has never lived anywhere else as far as anyone can remember. How does the community react to the NPC's family? Well, truthfully, the family is shunned by the community. The NPC has become hated by the inhabitants of an entire city or large institution (like a church or order of knighthood) who turn(s) the local authorities against him. Luckily, though, the character also has earned the respect of a town or guild-like organization and allies who provide him with equipment. Important Events A carefully thought out plan made by the character and an ally fell apart through unforeseen, chance happenings or by subterfuge on the part of the ally. The results were nearly disastrous and taught the character that even the best plans can fail utterly. One of the results of this past event can be that the character must spend some extra time thinking of contingency plans -- just in case. |

| Terjon of the Blue Rose02-29-08, 01:53 AM | Sorry I didn't really read the backgrounds you posted... Having a bad day and just can't seem to focus. I do, however, have an idea. from the OP. What if you were born to human parents? Rather than a traditional mongrelfolk your parents were a pair of well respected heros. Human both, they fought off dozens of incursions by the monstrous races and even destroyed a union of dozens of monsters that would have led to a nation filled with the creatures under the lordship of a trio of hags. Unfortunately for them when they defeated the hags the vile creatures turned out to be sore losers. They cursed you family such that all future children would be born bearing a touch of each race from whom the parents had taken a life. You are the dark secret of the two heros of a great kingdom. When you were born you were quickly cast out and reported as stillborn. But even heros are not without enemies and a guild of theives saved your young life. They hoped to make you the weapon that would bring down your parents. They knew your very existance was a threat and so trained you to survive. They didn't care for you, though, but rather for what you represented and so you have left in the hopes of finding a family of your own. You use the skills taught to you by the thieves in order to keep yourself alive while aspiring to live up to your true parents legacy, regardless of whether they will ever accept you openly. |
