| technonarrator11-30-07, 09:40 PM | DM's questions: 1. Where does he come from? 2. Why does he adventure? 3. Is his actual @#$ing name Kevin, or is it just a nickname? 4. How and why does he worship Corellion/Pelor, in-game? 5. How does he use in-game stats and why does he have his feats & skills? 6. How is his personality? 7. How is his morality? 8. What do others(yon bard in yon tavern, in Far-Far Away or his family or whatever) think of him? Answers: 1. He comes from the now destroyed nation of Ataean, recently nuked when a summoning spell went horribly horribly wrong(exact details is unknown by character, I was thinking of something along the lines of undead-rising-plague-of-doom) 2. He adventures to serve the god he worships, in this case Corellion/Pelor, as after the destruction of his home, he was saved from an untimely demise from zombies from a party of adventurers lead by a cleric of corellion/Pelor investigating the strange sounds and lights on horizon. constantly hopes to one day find his sister, but his hope for that is starting to wane. 3. No, merely a nickname, the elves/adventurers called him that because after he was rescued, he could only say, for a short time, Kevin. (Name of his little beloved little brother, who was killed and zombified in front of his eyes). His real name is ploratio animus (latin for mourning soul, gave himself this name because he forgot his in the catastrophe. 4. How: terminating undead and orcs, especially undead orcs, with extreme prejudice. Why: see above reason, the elf/human was the only one who could induct him into the clergy at the time, and taught him to kill undead without fear of zombification. He thirsted for revenge for his entire family(father dead, mother dead, grandparents dead, brother dead, sister MIA possibly dead, he does not know) 5. taught by elf, swimming a skill because he was forced to swim rivers to get away from undead. 6. charming to women to a fault, kind to commoners(because he was one, and understands their plight), and unnatural fear of undead. Usually tries to be humorous, as he was before the zombie attack but is usually quiet and dark. Does NOT like bullies. brooooooooooding. 7. emotionally shattered, thought he does not show it, he often jumps from one set of guiding principles to another, e.g. chaotic neutral, sometimes chaotic good, neutral good, lawful good, but usually chaotic neutral with a slight tinge of evil. He was taught to be ruthless in fight for survival, but does try to be helpful to others. Hates bullies because he suffered from one and later saw bully(male) assault, r***, and kill a childhood friend of his(female) in chaos from zombie attack, he later bashed in the bully's skull with a rock, and burned his corpse. 8. Others, esp. elves/clergy of Corellon/Pelor who know of his plight, pity him, and tries to help him. But so far he has been nondescript, and relatively anonymous. As for his family, welllllllllllllllll.................... I need help roleplaying a character like this, and I was looking for examples of stuff to say, do, etc. Any ideas for expanding this backstory would be nice as well. (The DM says, More plot hooks, please.) |
| Bluto12-01-07, 10:06 AM | So, does he worship Corellon Larethian or Pelor? Few gods like clerics with divided loyalties. What if the two faiths ideals conflict on something? It seems even more unlikely there is actually a clergy of this mixed faith? I would say it's better to go with one god. Pelor is a Neutral Good god, which means his clerics are all Neutral Good, Lawful Good, Chaotic Good, or possibly True Neutral. Corellon is a Chaotic Good god, which means his clerics are Chaotic Good, Chaotic Neutral, or Neutral Good. I can see you tried to mash the two faiths together - hatred of orcs and undead = hatred of undead orcs.. rescued by a human/elf.. you mean a half-elf? His memory seems pretty weirdly spotty too - he remembers a childhood friend, but not his own name? Let me give you the way I'd interpret this character, and you can take what you want from it. Ten years ago, a vile lichlord cast a spell that went horribly wrong. After creating a massive undead army, he stretched himself too far, and summoned a being even he could not control. The summoned outsider and the lichlord fought in a furious battle, but in the end the lich was destroyed, and his army left without a commander. The undead hordes mindlessly crossed the nation of Atean, destroying village and city alike. Adventurers rushed to aid the dying nation, but arrived too late. It's capital lay in ruins, and undead stalked the streets of every town. One of the very few survivors was a teenaged human boy, who was found by an elven adventurer, and his companions. The boy was found sitting beside the broken corpse of a very small zombie, which he had bludgeoned to death with a rock. His cheeks were stained with tears, and he would only mumble "Kevin... Kevin.. ". Once away from the horried place, he finally began to speak again, but had no memory of his past, or what he had done to survive. As he could not remember his name, his rescuers took to calling him Kevin. The boy was taken by the elf to a temple of Pelor, where they took in the orphaned child. There, he became a ward of the chuch, and was indoctrinated into the faith. He eventually took his name from the teachings of the faith, Ploratio Animus , meaning mourning soul. As Ploratio grew up, his natural charm started to show through his brooding reserve. His occasional flashes of humor and frivolity are welcome relief from his usually dour facade. He showed great interest in learning about undead, and ways to combat them. He knows that undead were responsible for a horrible tragedy in his past, and though he does not remember it, being faced with undead often causes him to go into a ruthless fury. As an adult, Ploratio adventures as a devout cleric of Pelor, though he occasionally pays tribute at shrines of Corellon Larethian to honor his rescuer. RP based skills: Taking feats/skills to turn more undead, or know more about them would fit the character well. Plot Hooks: The elven rescuer is still an adventurer, and could run into the party in the future. Ploration's memory of his younger brother being turned into a zombie, and being forced to kill him would cause a great shock to him if it came back. The outsider (demon/devil) that killed the lichlord has taken control of the undead army, and has started using them to form his own kingdom. As I said, take what you will from that, maybe something will catch your eye. |
