I mistakenly took a level of FB with my Barb2/F6/RunescBerz1 character. At the end of one battle, my characters terrible will save overtook him, and he killed two party members. They asked my character to leave, and I have played others in recent sessions, but they have died. The current party does not have enough fighting power, with most of the characters jackofalltrades kind of guys.

This could mean a return of my old barbarian. WIth the gametime off, about a month, I thought about what kind of rebuild I would do. Should I take another level of Runescarred Berzerker? Another level of a core class? or a level of something new like Duskblade?

Through most of our gaming time, my character developed a bond with the cleric of Tempus. I have been thinking that I've found religion and have a more leveled approach to combat. He was always Offensive minded, not defensive. Strike quick and hard to not get hit first.

I would appreciate any ideas you may have. Thanks.

Hmmm Yes Frenzy can be nasty... Is your character good in his alignment?

There is this feat in Book of Exalted Deeds, Righteous Wrath that allows you to maintain your logic while in battle and avoid attacking your friends.

You could say that your barbarian sought enlightment for the month he as been missing and his god, beliefs granted him the gift to recognize friend from foe during his terrible rage.

Well i played in a campaign where a friend had 10 levels in frenzied berzerker. He killed the monk and psion in 1 hit each with power atk then cleave. I however was then forced to kill him etc.. later he came back, same char excpet now he had atoned for his sins and learned real control. He had taken 1 lvl in monk to represent this, i know that it would give you nothing in terms of combat but it would fit your rp needs really well.

First I'd like to mention that this part of the forum is for the development of your character's personality, background etc. The "fluff" side of the game.
You'd be better advised in the character optimization forum.

Aside from that the feat mentioned by Eraleas is called "righetous wrath" but does not mention the frenzy ability but the barbarian's rage.

After speaking with my DM last evening, he is letting me rebuild my Barbarian/Fighter and trade the level of FB for another level of Runescarred Berzerker. I am saying that he spent his offtime returning to his land of Rasheman, found religion with Tempus, and is going to rejoin the party, who will be unaware of the changes made. I think its best if we role play out the concerns, as we did in his departure.

I am not asking for Optimization advice, but more roleplaying ideas, etc. concerning the change in the characters motivations , etc.

Personally i dont think the FB is that bad a class... there are numerous ways around the whole "attacking the party" issue.

Have him take the Iron Will feat and say that he spent some time in meditation trying to learn to control and direct his anger.

You cant play a FB like other characters, like a wizard, you have to pick and choose your fights. There is no point charging in with the rest of the party against a few weak foes since even the slightest hit could send you into a frenzy.

Its best if you just stay back until the really importnat fight happens, then charge in with the party. Or better yet, just have your party sup you up a bit (wizard, cleric, druid, bard spells) and just send you by yourself and see what happens :P

I seem to recall someone saying that FB's were like a tactical nuclear strike.... and you would use one of those on a few kobolds would you?

Peace

I love the class, hate people who take it. They can't use it.

*Yay, I kept myself from falming this post. Yaaaayy me :)*

DM and I are reinstroducing him in tonites gaming and roleplaying it as he took time away from the party to rebuild and took levels of Runescarred Berzerker and worships Tempus, but has taken on a more intelligent view to combat. I am thinking about changing his alignment from NG to CN or N because of what happened during his falling out with the party members. He is being reintroduced by some NPCs and is supposed to keep one of the other party members alive who is key to the story. ANy ideas? Thanks.
