I've just started a new 5th level DRuid character. The problem is, I'm having a bit of trouble roleplaying him. I envision him being very perceptive and spiritual, yet at the same time, he can be fierce, wild, and generally frightening.

The story behind him is that he woke up in a forbidden forest with amnesia. He was about 15 at the time. The Druid Circle that dwelled there told him that because he had tresspassed on hallowed Sacred Ground, he must either join their circle or die. Naturally, he decided to join. It was later discovered that he had been poisoned by one of the druids (his teacher btw) with a potent snake venom that caused his amnesia. He was then herded by his teacher into the forest, thus effectively puting him between a roc and a hard place. By this time, he had gotten into the spirit of things, so he wasn't quite as upset as he should have been. In game time, 7 years has passed, and my character is now 5th level and journeying, seeking to learn more of the natural world and the coressponding spirit world.

I can't seem to get the hand of playing him, however. It feels as though my attempts to role play him the way I envisioned is not coming through completely. I have decided that I would try to get a feel for the class by researching the Druids of our world. Does anyone have any suggestions? I could really use advice. The rest of the group is doing awesome, and I don't want to be the extra weight that drags everyone else down.

Make him calm. very calm. Someone who don't cares about his past should be a guy without intimidation much. He always think to what to say, and when he does, he speak with clearness. Even in crisis situation, he never panics. His judgement isn't affected by his emotions and would very well sacrifice himself in a hearth beat, but still, only if he thinks it is the only solution.

Very few things can upset him. In those things they're destroying nature for sefish persons. If one cut down a tree for the coming winter so he can survive, that's OK. But if one cut down a tree because he don't like it, that'll upset him. Once upset, he'll expose his thoughts normaly to the outrager, with nothing but a twich. If he doesn't want to listen, he'll burst and will personally punish the guy by the way he thinks the more appropriate (turning him into a tree, for example). In anger, very few things will stop the druid from trying.

The others PC might get to know the twitch, and react in consequences,

Hope it makes your mind clear.

Since he doesn`t care about the past I`d say make him someone who tries to enjoy the moment as best he can and enjoys seeing new places and things.

Alrighty, I think I have it. I believe this character is a cross between Yoda and Mace Windu; he is slow to anger, wise, and good natured, but like Mace, he is deadly when angry. He basically adopts a feral glint in his eyes and looks at the source of his anger as prey.

I would suggest that you go with your instincts. Play this character how you are inclined to, even if it's not exactly how you planned it. I've found that if I have trouble getting into character for a new PC, it usually means that the way I planned her to be just wouldn't "click" for me, ever. I'm much happier following my instincts for roleplaying, just like when I act. As long as your instinct don't lead you to make each PC identical to each other and to you, it should be fine.

And I have to ask what you mean by researching the druids of the real world, did you mean of the past, the ones who built stonehenge, or the modern ones. (Yes there are still druids) I can't help you with either, but there is a lot on the internet about both. I guess that's all I have to say.
