| LiXinjian03-21-04, 12:42 AM | Hopefully, I can lend you a hand. I've DMed an evil campaign, and I had the players be all Zhents. The Zhents are notoriously heavy-handed. They don't beat around the bush. In a way, they are much like modern crime syndicates. They take what they want; their reputation often means they can get away with it. If they expect heavy confrontation, they probably resort to more subtle methods. There is currently much tension within the ranks of the Zhentarim, because of the return of Bane (does that qualify as basic info?) and the cyricists that are still part of the organization. I suppose your Wizard worships either of these two gods. This choice defines your character more than you can imagine: if he worships Cyric, he probably encounters much more oppositions from his superiors. He has more enemies than a Bane-worshipper. When the time comes, I bet he's not sure he can count on anyone. A zhent wizard is cautious or he's dead. He's out to get power, both political and magical (you know you get 2 scrolls of any spell of a level you can cast every time you gain a level - benefits of the organization?). You should keep an eye on all other wizards that are stationed with you or are close to you in any way; be wary of your underlings, and keep informed: you need to know when there's a power switch (which, fortunately, don't happen too often given the military structure of the organization), or you might end up backing the looser. Nobody wants that. Clerics of Bane are probably a bit of a pain in the neck since the Chosen of Bane is your big big boss, and they are no doubt as scheming as your wizard peers. As far as roleplaying goes, you can go with any personality you like best (fun, gloomy, decadent, serious, etc.). I particularily like the ambitious young mageling out to carve a name for himself. He can see the organization as a means to an end, or he could truly believe in it. Just be sure to be ruthless and calculating, oh, and prudent. Your mage could be the type who keeps a file and an eye on everyone, noting each one's weakenesses and strengths, as well as having contingencies to deal with any potential threat (including, but not limited to: Red Wizards, other ambitious Zhents, Harpers, cyricists, adventurers, do-gooders). Come up with a lucrative plan every now and then (one that'll benefit the organization, not only you!) and you'll probably gain political power/advance through the ranks. There's been a schism within the Harpers because Khelben made an agreement with Fzoul: perhaps your character has his own views on this agreement, either condoning or condemning it. Who knows? Must I suggest the Zhentarim Skymage prestige class? Although you Cha is a bit low... Hope this helps. If you have any question, ask ahead. |
