| Khazra Reborn10-10-04, 04:27 PM | OK, im trying to make an undead slayer who was turned into an undead to carry on the 'good work'. He's going to be a worshipper of st. cuthbert (i figure that the law of life is the biggest law you can break, so he'd really have a hatred for undead). He's going to have an undead template (most likely mummified creature). So far im thinking that he originally died of the disease festering anger (BoVD p.30) with the target of yep, you guessed it, undead. After dieing he was mummified to be brought back at a time when the dead started crawling from there graves. Basicly, i need help fleshing out the charcter eg. why he hates undead, who bought him back (possibly cuthbert, add cheesey line 'the gods are not without a sense of irony'),etc. Any help much appreciated. |

He probably has archaic and perhaps outdated views on social and religious doctrine (he may even think the current worshipers of Cuthbert as the equivalent of crazy flower children. About a jaywalker: "What? You aren't going to flay him? Are you blind? Where's your sense of justice?") His speech may also be full of archaic devices (the equivalent of someone today speaking in "thou"s and "thine"s.) His hatred of undead could stem from a view that rising from the dead is breaking a divine edict (as you suggested,) he could have more personal reasons (barring the traditional "wife/kids/family slain by undead" story, perhaps his father was a powerful necromancer who betrayed him at a young age, turning his efforts to destroying those creations his father was affiliated with,) or perhaps he is just disgusted by the idea of rotting flesh. He likely views his current undead state as a temporary condition, and plans on finishing his work as quickly as possible and passing on, where heaven everlasting is his reward. He might even be brought back against his wishes, mistakenly animated by some other religious sect, or even revived by some magical curse. Just some ideas. Hope they help you out. |

You could, y'know, come back as a Deathless from BoED or the Eberron campaign setting. I find the concept of Good-aligned undead to be a bit freaky, though. Especially since their (supposedly) positive energy-animated corpses are just as decrepit as the plain vanilla evil-aligned versions. In Eberron, anyway. |
| Wildonion10-10-04, 10:17 PM | Why was he brought back? He requested that he be brought back when he died to continue his war, and now he has become that which he hates! Why does he hate the undead? He was part of the Plague of Neverwinter (You know about this if you played Neverwinter Nights) and lost his family to the plague and they became zombies! If you arn't in the forgotten realms then it could be that he was just enraged by the thought of how the undead don't care for the sanctity of life! |
| Khazra Reborn10-11-04, 02:34 PM | cool ideas. I really wanted to avoid the family killed by undead thing (why is there no cheese smilie :D ) Being a mummy all i could think of was maybe a pharo's guard, pharo killed by undead, despite 'killing' all the undead he was then mummfied alive & buried with his pharo. 1000 years later (oh god, wheres the cheese smilie)a liche misreads the hylogriphics on the tomb, thinks he's summoning a powerful ally & i smash him in to pieces with a holy undead bane warmace  Yes, im aware that i can't spell pharo or hylogryphics;) . The old fashioned punishment is a good idea......if i see a child trying to steal food from a market stall ill cut there hand off while the paladins tries to reason with the stall owner & pay for what the child stole :schemes: I think i might take some ranks in the torture skill from BOVD......i can see this character turning into the warhammer 40K Redeemer comic strip (atleast in personality) |
