All right, I'm playing a Lawful Evil kobold hunter-mage (a class I made myself) I'm wondering for tips to roleplay his attitude.
For some facts about his background, here they are;by the way my kobold is named Agog the 2nd.

Agog the 2nd's father, also named Agog, died in a gladiator combat. Because it was such a humilating death, done by a human, Agog wants to eradicate all humans. Agog adventures so he can find black knowledge and power. He wants that because he wants to rule the world, just like his grandfather tried to do.

Thoughts on my background? I'm new at this. Also, could you help me with Agog the 2nd's personality and attitude?

I'm think Pun-Pun would be a kobold with a backstory like "I desire power. Nothing more, nothing less." :evillaugh: (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=582428)

:smirk: Still trying, huh? Well, assuming your DM doesn't figure it out and literally kill you for it, I think "Agog" ( ;) ) will be a quiet, driven, apparently low-Cha individual. He's not antisocial in the arrogant :censored: hole sense, but his goal of exterminating an entire race and ruling the world is a huge and grim one, and he has no time for social niceties. He simply won't bother with other people if they're not his targets and not in his way. He will likely spend all his free time working out and/or studying to prepare himself, make his body and mind stronger. He's obsessive and determined, and probably wakes up screaming out of nightmares brought on by his unrelenting fury. He probably avoids torture in favor of quick kills, not because of any mercy but because it's a waste of time - you could kill 500 people or walk 150 miles in the time it would take to torture just one properly.

(Most of this suggestion is experience from playing a similarly vengeful, obsessed evil character of my own - the main differences are he was primarily a warrior and secondarily a spellcaster rather than the other way around, and his hated target for extermination was a god rather than the human race.)

Now, Shaggs, thats just mean to accuse me of the Pun-Pun stuff. I knew No DM will accept it, I just wanted the RPers to have a mental exercise. Anyway, thanks for the tips, and by the way, the anti-social kind won't work, since Agog works with other bounty hunters to finish the hunt. Now Agog wants to eradicate all drow, (since we are in a fortress of the drow type campaign) Agog hunts to destory all his possible enemies. (Oh yeah, the hunter mage is CHA-based) Oh yeah, if several members of a race try to kill him many times, Agog adds the race to his eradication list.

Think Nazi.

Take the Leadership feat ( a smart plan towards your goal). Blame your problems (and the problems of the world) vocally on your to-kill races.

Be arrogant and explain that your "draconic bloodline" proves you superior to all the others. Granted, you will probably want to be smart about it, explaining this only to those it won't offend.

To the point, the key to most tragic characters is drama.
Meredith the Pixie whose family was wiped out by an ex-paladin she helped,
Grimdolf the Inconquerable Horror who was hunted because of his goals of furthering arcane knowledge, or
Krystian the Undead Hunter who was defeated by those he sought to destroy and turned into a subservient mummy. They all have some form of trauma or drama in their histories.

You say that Agog is in to Eugenics?

Maybe he was mistreated because of his 'draconic heritage'? Maybe he was pushed back for someone less 'draconic'. At any rate, if he believes that his draconic heritage is something superior to others, there must be something that puts him apart from other Kobolds. Maybe he has a streak of lightning-yellow scales down his back, or perhaps his tail is slightly more dexterous or just longer or perhaps barbed. As a child, he would have been teased constantly because of this, he would have recieved beatings, name-callings, unfair treatment. If his life is so terrible, he'll develop at least a few neurosis. He will probably not give any kind of sympathy towards his enemies, other Kobolds will probably be high on his decimation list. He won't show any kindness, and he'll be cold, calculating, and neurotic.

Maybe it's the opposite. Maybe he was a perfectly normal kid in his early years, good at hunt-a-gnome with the other kids, quick learner, nice manners. Then he gets caught up in something. Maybe it's an accident by some gnomish squad using an experimental magic cannon, maybe it's magic leakage (Heroes of Battle, page 40) from a long-buried magic item, or maybe he just ticked off the local Divine Minion Sorcerer. If it's these, he would have gotten even worse treatment! A once beloved and enjoyed Kobold with lots of friends, suddenly acquires a trait that makes them an outcast. This is worse than above, because it means he actually knows what it was like to be one of 'the normal ones'. He might show some compassion towards his enemies because of this, the ones that stand out anyway. Or, he might be even more driven to destroy all of them, those Empire Soldiers are all just trying to be identical after all!

Hey, thanks lyinginbedmon! Good idea. Since Agog and his father both have poison green eyes and no other kobold for a thousand years has had that trait, he could be an outcast.

There's not much to say about a genocidal megalomaniac that hasn't already been said. And you haven't really been contributing much to this thread, giving updates on what you've got so far or anything.

Perhaps, instead of simply bumping the thread, you should write out a draft of the background and description thus far, submit it for review and wait a few days.

Also, tell us about the homebrew class you're using for this, how it functions in terms of both crunch and fluff. If you were using a normal class, folks might have some suggestions for background, outlook and personality based on the general training and experience of that class, but for Random Personal Class We Know Little About X, people can't do that.

Oh, sorry, I'll tell all.

The hunter-mage is a class specially designed to hunt people, usually with magic.(duh) Agog has a special knack for it. (Somehow, while I'm playing him, I get good rolls a lot.)

HD type is d6.
Like a sorcerer in terms of spells and saves.

Ok, now for the backstory. (Btw, how do I do spoilers?)

Agog II was just a normal kobold. So was his father. In private, Agog often chanted minor spells,(level 0 spells.) He was probably going to end up on the end of a sword, like most kobolds, if not for a fateful battle with a few gnomes when he was 20 years old. He and a three friends were out on a gnome hunt, when out of the brush hurtled crossbow bolts. The bolts instantly killed Agog's friends. Agog drew out his family rapier, and when the dust cleared from the battle, Agog, victorous and bruised, was holding the head of each gnome. He wandered off towards the nearest city, looking for a job. He did many odd-jobs, waiting for the right oppertunity.(sp?) He finally found it when he applied at the Bounty Hunter's Guild. Most Bounty hunters used no magic, but Agog was still a natural at it. He used magic to kill bounties, as he only took dead or alive missions. Why did he only take dead or alive missions? Because he didn't want the hassle of a captured foe. Finally, he got to Azeroth city, a city that hated all none humans. Cleverly, Agog used a spell to disguise himself as an old human. He had found out his father died in Azeroth City. He went to the gladitoral pits, and found records that said his father died in gladitoral combat. He went beserk, and logically resolved that the only way to avenge his father, would be to eradicate all humans. He also wanted to rule the world. Why? He wanted supreme power. The next time he took a bounty, he teamed up with another bounty hunter, and happened upon a fortess of the drow. After fighting the drow, and being knocked around by them, Agog II added drow to his eradication list. Since then, he has taken more bounties, and he is trying to become a dragon disciple, to wield the power of a dragon.
This good? Help me some more, ok?

(Btw, how do I do spoilers?)
<sblock=name of spoiler>contents</sblock> ( replace <> with [] )

In private, Agog often chanted minor spells,(level 0 spells.)When did this start happening? How did he come to understand and control it? How did he and the people around him react to the burgeoning power?
Agog drew out his family rapier, and when the dust cleared from the battle, Agog, victorous and bruised, was holding the head of each gnome. He wandered off towards the nearest city, looking for a job.
Tell us more about how "just an average kobold", quite possibly the worst-suited creatue on Oerth for melee combat, accomplished this feat. And why he knows how to use that heirloom rapier, heh. Also did he just decide to go job-hunting immediately after the fight, while he was still drenched in blood, or was there some going home and buying of beer and celebrating and whatnot, in between there?
He did many odd-jobs, waiting for the right oppertunity.(sp?)
"Opportunity." What kinds of jobs did he do, and what did he learn from them?
He finally found it when he applied at the Bounty Hunter's Guild.
Magic or not, this is still a kobold. How did he convince the BHG to let him even try out, much less join? Did he use illusion magic to pretend to be something else, or did he bring in a few freshly severed heads to indicate prowess, or what?
He had found out his father died in Azeroth City. He went to the gladitoral pits, and found records that said his father died in gladitoral combat.
Who tipped Agog Jr off to check the arena? And how did he, a non-employee, get access to the arena's logbooks?
He went beserk, and logically resolved that the only way to avenge his father, would be to eradicate all humans.
I kinda like the idea of a lawful guy who goes berserk every now and then as a bit of internal conflict, but I have an issue with the wording here. It's pretty hard to be logical when you're berserk, and his resolution of genocide is pretty much the direct opposite of logical. Consider rewording this, and maybe expand on his thought processes at the time.
He also wanted to rule the world. Why? He wanted supreme power.
This seems oddly disconnected from the previous thought, but I think expanding on both should help smooth the transition. Also, expand on what he plans to do with the supreme power if/when he gets it.The next time he took a bounty, he teamed up with another bounty hunter, and happened upon a fortess of the drow. After fighting the drow, and being knocked around by them, Agog II added drow to his eradication list.
Way, way, way too understated. "I got beat up a little, so I'm gonna kill every drow on the planet." No. Give us details, tell the readers specifically what he suffered at the hands of the drow to cause such a radical decision. And while you're at it, it would be good if you expanded the detail on bounties taken in general.

---

It seems what you're trying to do here is merge the classic and simple Wandering Badass archetype with the somewhat more complicated Abused Nerd Who Goes Insane And Takes Exaggerated Revenge On The Whole World personality. This could work out well, but I really think this needs a lot more detail. At this point it looks like you've got a vague idea what you want but it seems very rushed.

Oh, and finally, the Wall O' TextTM is annoying to read. Please break up future submissions into something resembling paragraphs.

Keep working on it, this has potential. :)

Well, Shaggs, Agog hates ANYONE who knocks him out. The drow knocked him out a lot. Thankfully, his party members healed him a lot.

The minor spells happened at age 13, when Agog's father left the tribe. How did that have anything to do with getting magic? Well, it was said by an oracle, that any kobold with poison green eyes would have a great destiny on the side of evil. Agog the 1st (his father) and Agog II himself both have poison green eyes. For the gnome battle, before that Agog always trained in speed, instead of strength. (Weapon finesse feat.) Agog needed money to pursue his goals, and so he logically decided to be a bounty hunter. He went home to pack some provisions.
The odd jobs Agog did many jobs for criminals. He learned to bluff and change someone's mind, and if he got caught, he used his rapier to fend foes off. Eventually, Agog decided he needed more money then what criminals could give him, so he took out a bounty on his former crime leader's head. And so, Agog decided he liked killing criminals for money, so he became a bounty hunter. The head of the crime leader proved his skill. Now, Agog's father had died a year and a half before, so Agog wandered around looking for his father. He eventually found out his father died in Azeroth City. Agog found out because of his father's good friend, the air goblin named Garem. Garem was watching in the shadows of the arena. Garem told Agog what had happened, and Agog went to investigate. Now, Agog has a high wisdom, (15 wisdom) so he could not lose his head, (so to speak) and Agog has a very high code of honor, (even though he's LE) and as such, wants to eradicate anything that blemishes his code of honor. He wants to rule the world, because he thinks kobolds should be the master race. For the supreme power, he wants ultimate perfection. His dream is to be the perfect being. Is it good?
Frylord

03-01-06, 05:35 PM
Heh, so far, Agog thinks that the only races that could oppose him are the ones he puts on his eradication list. That almost the whole point of the list.
Shaggy_Shaggs

03-01-06, 08:44 PM
Well, Shaggs, Agog hates ANYONE who knocks him out. The drow knocked him out a lot. Thankfully, his party members healed him a lot.
Then I think there should be more detail of this in the background, specific incidents and whatnot.
The minor spells happened at age 13, when Agog's father left the tribe. How did that have anything to do with getting magic? Well, it was said by an oracle, that any kobold with poison green eyes would have a great destiny on the side of evil.
What was the very first incident? How and when did it happen, who was he with and where was he at the time? How did he react, specifically? How did they?
Agog the 1st (his father) and Agog II himself both have poison green eyes.
This has been bugging me for awhile but I didn't say anything hoping it would pass (it hasn't). "Poison green" isn't a colour, poisons come in all colours and shades, many of which aren't green, and even among the green ones there are many variances. I suggest revising it to something more realistic and descriptive.
For the gnome battle, before that Agog always trained in speed, instead of strength. (Weapon finesse feat.)
Tell us more about this. Again, specific incident descriptions would be good.
The odd jobs Agog did many jobs for criminals.
What kind of jobs?
Now, Agog has a high wisdom, (15 wisdom) so he could not lose his head
Don't tell us he has higher than average wisdom, show us he's wise. What wise decisions has he made, and what wise actions has he taken?
Agog has a very high code of honor, (even though he's LE) and as such, wants to eradicate anything that blemishes his code of honor.
What's the code say? Detailing this would be good. Is it a long code, or a short one? How much flexibility is there? "I don't take crap" isn't a code of honour, show us specifically what part of the code these people offended (and the rest of the code while you're at it).
He wants to rule the world, because he thinks kobolds should be the master race.
For what purpose? Does he love his kinsmen and want to uplift them to make their lives better? Is it just something he's doing for lack of anything better to do? What's the point?
For the supreme power, he wants ultimate perfection. His dream is to be the perfect being.
Why? If he succeeds in this and the other goal, what's he going to do with it? Is he just on a sad little powertrip that's going to claim a lot of lives, to make up for being short, like Napoleon? Give us details, man.

Also, as I said before,Oh, and finally, the Wall O' TextTM is annoying to read. Please break up future submissions into something resembling paragraphs. That includes inside spoiler blocks, break it up a bit so it's less cumbersome to read.
Is it good?
It has potential, but it still seems rushed and sort of an afterthought. I'm just not feeling it, I guess. I think a lot more time, effort, care and detail needs to be put in, here.

Have you been reading the story of Whren (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=562115)? If not, I really recommend you go do that. It'll take some time, as good stories tend to do, but there you can really tell that a lot of thought and care went into the character. I don't even remember what specific classes she is unless I go and check the top post for it, and don't even care what her stats are, she comes across as a totally real person from another time and place (one where magic works apparently, heh). Take some time and see if you can build the same sort of feel for Agog.

Good luck. :)
Frylord

Heh, it's always rushed. I don't have much time, and you are a little too critical. :P By the way, if I ever do any other characters and need help, could you help?
Shaggy_Shaggs

03-01-06, 10:38 PM
This hasn't been me being critical, this has been me being helpful (and bringing to attention things that, imo, could use improvement or embellishment). Me being critical would have this whole place down in flames. :mage:

If this already seems overly critical to you though, perhaps I'm not the one you should be asking for further help.

Ok, Agog's code of honor is,

1.Anyone who knocks down a defenseless kobold must die horribly. (Agog considers himself a defenseless kobold unless he has immense amounts of power, yeah Agog is really arrogant)
2.Never hurt a kobold unless he hurt you first. Agog is very protective of his fellow kobolds. Why? They are the race that birthed him. He considers those who created his perfect form deserve not to die. (Again, really arrogant)
3.Unless they are in your way, try not to kill those who work for your bounty.

4.If you have to do battle, go through with it all the way.

5.Always hunt your bounty if you have one. Die before surrendering the bounty.

6. Never betray your friends. (Agog has VERY few friends, so he treasures the ones he can get.)

For the poison green eye color, I mean about this dark.

For the first incident with magic, Agog was annoyed once when he was 6 that there was no stars out, (on a cloudy night) and lo and behold, dancing lights appeared. Agog was suprised, then he experimented a bit, and so, found out he could do magic. His tribe was joyful! They made him the hero of their tribe, and showered him with gifts. They did this because they hadn't had a magician in their tribe for a hundred years!

Agog trained in speed instead of strength, because naturally, that's what he was good at.

Once, on a job he was doing for the crime bosses, Agog saw a group of adventurers, each perfect at their given skills, kill a large group of thugs. Agog was astounded at how easily they did it. He resolved to have the best of all of them. The power of the party was beautiful to Agog. When he succeds in achieving his goal, Agog will go across the multiverse, conquering plane after plane. You see, once Agog saw a puppet show. It wasn't the story or humor that fascinated Agog, it was the way the puppeters controlled the puppets. Agog wishes to be a master puppeter, with all creation as his puppets.

Unlike his party members, (whom Agog considers his friends) Agog always thinks ahead. He keeps a good lid on his feelings.

The odd jobs Agog did where a mixture of spying, framing, and thievery.

I hope this clears it a bit up.

kobolds are so totally flippin sweet, and agog is totally flippin sweet even by kobold standards.

one time, my friend said that agog was just chillin by the side of a house, doin his crazy magic stuff, and this guy walked by, and agog blew the guy into ashes, just 'cuz he could.

NOW THAT'S REAL ULTIMATE POWER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!

sorry, I just had to say it, your initial background just reminded me of it...

think about more stuff in agog's life that would shape he he is- childhood friends(or lack thereof), his place in the tribe/clan/whatever, and why the rapier is a family heirloom that he felt was so important he needed to become a fencing master with it.
Frylord

03-08-06, 09:41 AM
Uh, Dipteran, Agog is LAWFUL Evil. But meh. Agog the 1st had trained with the rapier, and Agog II (my character here) respects his family. His place in the tribe before his father started adventuring, was a crappy solider job. After his father started adventuring and gaining power, Agog got the job of Master Hunter.
FREAK06

03-09-06, 04:19 PM
Alright so where did his family get the rapier? did his dad send it home or was it "borrowed" by his great grandaddy from a dead gnome. did his dad send him any things that he could have used on hiis adventures. did he get any equipment or training from the criminals or did they treat him like a sort of inferior. what about the bounty hunters did they make him take some sort of test to join or did he bring them any examples of his work.

Also did he get in any trouble with the law on his jobs for the criminals or did he get away with it. does he have any live enemies, say other bounty hunters who wanted the contracts they gave to him or any betrayed criminals who escaped death?

there might be more but its been a long day!
