Help with background for a Lycenthrope Hunter barbarian [Archive] - Wizards Community

06-18-04, 10:32 AM I'm a full barbarian, Human, and I hunt lycanthropes. Pretty much I was thinking my background could possibly be like, when he was young a small band of lycanthropes attacked his village hurting his dad who later turned into one and slaughtered his mom but he was able to get away, though he was on his own for a long while. Then he met a ranger who he found out also was in this same profession. They decided to team up for awhile and it worked.

Some other things you might need to know to help is the fact that I have both a low int, and wis. And that I have to know some other party member somehow and that is why I worked the ranger in there.

The rangers background is “while my story is i was born a lycanthrope and during my childhood my parents were killed by a lycanthrope and after that i fled town cause i was afraid and have never been back since and am out for revenge against that lycanthrope and only use my power for good” I cant change that since that is his character.

Anyone want to lend me a hand to make my story more unique or flesh it out more?

06-19-04, 02:01 PM Even basic, your background is really good. You give an awesome hook to your DM: your now-lycanthrope father killed your mother, and he's still alive!

Since you have a low INT and WIS, perhaps don't you understand what is a lycanthrope? You wake up in the night to see that a big wolf is killing your mother and turning his eyes toward you, so you flee. Where is your father? You don't know, perhaps dead, killed by the big wolf. (That gives a good Luke Skywalker - Darth Vador kind of story).
Or in another way, perhaps did you actually saw your father changing into a wolf during his first full moon, and he attacked your mother. Now perhaps with the ranger's help, you made him flee. Now all you know is your father is now evil, you don't know why, but you want to kill him to avenge your mom, or protect her if she survived. (A great Oedipe Complexe, perhaps?)
