I'm aiming for a forgotten realms setting and although some of it is made up (like the order of monks) i would like to incorporate some info from the realms into it. Particularly which army she fought in and such. She is a lawful neutral character so far and she tends to lean toward good in certain situations. Gale is a 25 year old human cleric. She does not remember much from her early childhood except wandering the streets and looking through garbage for food. She was found by the Sister's of the Sacred Claw at a young age and taken into their order. The sister's, an order of monks, taught her much about philosophy, religion and combat. Gale found that she was quite inept at the sister's style of combat. At the age of 16 she was sent out to study under a master armsmen and a paladin. Under his strict tutelage she became an artist with blunt weapons, shields and heavy armor. During her training she fell in love with him even though he was more than 10 years her senior. After confessing her deep love for him he sent her away. Roaming free she joined the armies of the _________. She fought with the empire for 4 years as a soldier. It was during this time in her life that she found her god. Upon being wounded on the field of battle she was given a vision from her ___________. Since then she has been wandering free trying to bring order to the realms and devoting herself to the study of him. "He speaks to me as i lay in the dark. I got a strange sense of vertigo like I was spinning out of control but I wasn't scared or uncomfortable. He spoke to me in a way that I thought I was having a conversation with myself but that wasn't possible because he said things to me that I would never think to say to myself. I asked him something but I forgot what it was. It's almost as if I had a dream while I was fully awake. 'You could be great if you poored yourself into the study of me the way you do other things in your life.'he said. 'I could be great?" I asked. 'I've never been great at anything in my life.' I can't remember what he said after that. As I write this now the memories fade into a golden haze." |

Secondly, it would probably benefit you to choose a monastic order active in Faerun - a specialized order might be present in your DMs version of the setting, but not all DMs will want to make the effort to create such an order. Fortunately, for the one god the setting takes away from your backstory, it provides you with a host of viable replacements. Three ideas that never really go wrong for a paladin are: Tyr - god of justice. Ilmater - god of mercy and endurance. Helm - god of guardians. It would be a simple matter to pick one of these that best suits the character's personality. Likewise, selecting a monastic order present in the Realms should suit your personality too. Perhaps one of these would work: Broken Ones (Ilmater). Sun Soul (primarily Lathander - god of renewal). Yellow Rose (also Ilmater). More diplomatically-focused. Lastly, the only kingdom I can think of that has been at war recently is Amn, which has been fighting incessantly against the Sythillisian Empire. The Empire, barely more than a consortium of evil creatures and mercenaries headed by a pair of ogre magi, currently holds Murann, previously the second most active port in Amn. However, if your campaign is set too far from Amn, there is conflict to be had in many other areas of the Realms, I'm sure. Hope that's helpful. /Woot |
