We're going to be playing an evil one-off adventure where my PC is a fallen paladin turned blackguard.

What are some good elements I can use to develop his fall from grace?

I like the idea of a paladin, who is very good at his job, and is quite good at upholding the law aspect of his alignment. However, he may not quite grasp the good side of it. He would be all about following the rules, or rather others following the rules, and maybe sometime in his past, he had attempted to smite a good person, that may not have been following the rules, but was doing so for the betterment of those in his charge.

Maybe he mistakenly believed an innocent person was working with the Big Evil and attempted to smite them rather than arrest them and take them before a court of law.

You could always have the character have some sort of supieriority complex where he HAS to be better than those around him, and he falls to obtain the power to defeat enemies... or something like that.

my fallen paladin blackgaurd fell because he was forced to side with undead to stop a demonic attack and receved no renforcements from his order as they considered it a lost cause, later on he was ordered to hunt down his former undead allies so instead he left his paladin order

I haven't fleshed this out all the way yet but this is going to be a back story for a paladin I'm going to be playing

So my character was attempting to apprehend a criminal and during the shuffle, inadvertently killed an innocent child. The guy had valuable information about a plot to assassinate his lord, but the death of the child pushed him into a killing rage and he basically cut the guy to pieces, even after the guy surrendered. The plot to assassinate the lord succeeded and the disgraced paladin fell into a downward spiral of rage and drinking.(Here we would depart from my background since I'm going to have my paladin redeem himself eventually)

He could be approached by an evil wizard/cleric or such who heard the tale of the disgraced paladin and thought to recruit him as an ally in his evil schemes.

Not a bad story. I've always liked the idea of a paladin who refuses to accept his fall. Their belief is that they did not fail but rather were betrayed by the very gods. Now they work with evil in order to take back the power that they believe rightfully belongs to them.
