I have a halfling Cleric of Tempus created for Forgotten Realms, but I am having trouble grasping the faith of Tempus...or at least ways to play out my allegiance to the given diety.
I know it may seem like an odd choice of race and diety combination, and I would be happy for some Faerunian background information or ideas for my little fella to be the way he is.
Essentially, where did he get the idea to become a cleric of Tempus? And how should I play him?
Any help would be most appreciated.

Tempus is the god of battle and might and all that jazz. Maybe your hafling grew up amoung humans and got picked on alot and had the cr@p kicked out of him dayly. He started praying to the god of strength to give him courage and support and when it actually started working (the bullies backed off... his life generally imporved due to his improved confidence) he decided to dedicate his life to the god who helped him out so much.

You could play him as a totally confident character who isnt intimidated at all by people bigger than him. I can see this little guy talking to a great red dragon as easy as if it were a gnome.

Never backs down from a fight, always tells people to stand up for themselves and does go to the aid of people but doesnt help them too much. They have to learn to stand on their own two feet at some point, just like he did.

Oh... and he has to like combat :P

Actually, Fithero has it close, but not quite. Tempus is not the god of victory in battle due to strength, but rather of victory in battle due to craftiness, strategy, or skill. He frowns upon attrition and "total warfare", such as destroying homes. One key tenet of the faith is that all warriors deserve equal respect, regardless of age, sex, or race- presumably, this could just as easily be extended to size.

Perhaps as a child he idolized paladins and aspired to be one, but never felt "the call." Since he could not altogether give up on the idea of becoming alike to his role models, his only alternative was to become a renowned soldier. Unfortunately, he could not find any organizations that would accept his service (he is pretty small, after all) save a temple of Tempus, where he was slowly indoctrinated with the tenets of courageous and courteous warfare.

This particular instance would have the character acting in certain ways like a paladin. He might even go so far as treating the adventuring group like his own personal army if he can get away with it- assuming leadership, using the group to develop his tactics so that someday he might be recognized as a skilled tactician.

Granted, it's only one idea, but I hope some of that helps.
