| andrew barrientos12-02-03, 12:02 AM | Well, it comes down to it and I rolled a 5{4d6 2 2 1 1 no rereolls on 1's}. I wanted to play a rogue again but I get tired of dying due to lack of hp. {I think the need for hp is why rogues went up faster in 2nd edition} So I started a runecaster instead and felt that the best place to put it was Cha. Because there is really not much you can do with a 5 I took it a step further and thought I'd be a shield dwarf {not much difference between a 3 and 5} Stats are as follows: str 11 dex 14 con 15 int 15 wis 18 cha 3 My plan was to play him as a recluse, one that did not speak unless spoken to. I'd like more input on character development. How did he become disfigured? Any other ideas? I do not plan on getting into the fray much as we already have a Human Paladin5, Dwarven Fighter5, human wizard5, human rogue3 ranger1 sorcerer1. |
| Archeon ofEndtimes12-02-03, 01:54 AM | With other mental stats like that, I'd say that the best option is the aforementioned recluse demenor. Generally, I think that with as much common sense that comes with 18 wis, the character is a bit beyond that "complete-a-hole" approach to low charisma. And it also makes it kinda hard to pull off a madman who rambles like Noodle Boy, especially with the added 15 int. But with a 3, that there's bottom of the barrel low. You should be absolutely loath to any social interaction. I'd say go Silent Bob on 'em. Only without the charm. You can still chip in, but probably just nods and grunts. If they do something that your high wis says is dumb, just give a grunt of disapproval and wander off, watching to see if they follow. If they don't, just shrug. Don't try to convince them to do anything. That would involve, you know, doing stuff... like talking... at them. And that's a no-go. As for how he got that way. I'd say have him obsessed with runes. He doesn't care about those around him, but he likes runes. They're more his friends than the other PCs. Doesn't need to be disfigured at all. Just a complete and total introvert (except with ol' buddy rune). |
| Jeriel12-02-03, 02:03 AM | Personally, i'd play him with some kind of social stigma (besides being a dwarf). Maybe have him overthink everything he says to the point of nearly being mute, or have him regularly say whatever the first thing that comes into your mind is, barring being annoying. |

Barring being annoying? C'mon he has a 3 Charisma! This is the kind of person that you ask to leave your party of 100 people you don't know. He's never been on a date. People who have had the misfortune of meeting him once will cross the street to avoid him. If he tries to go shopping, he'll either be ignored or asked to leave. Assuming that you don't want him to be shockingly disfigured, I'd make him so horrible in social situations that everyone wants him to not speak... ever... and when they do talk to him, it will be with great reluctance. Paladin: So, what do the runes say? Wizard: I'm not sure... (looks uncomfortably up at the runecaster hovering over him and picking his nose) Paladin: (Looks at runecaster with distaste) Um, perhaps Elgon knows... Runecaster: (Licking his finger, then staring at wizard) Uh, uh, uh, I, uh I think... (his voice fades away... the paladin tries to ignore the fact that the runecaster is staring at her chest and drooling slightly) I mean, 3. This is a 3 Charisma. -Shaftiel |
| CaoSlayer12-02-03, 06:00 AM | do you watch SCI Las Vegas? play him as Grissom |
| Thresher12-02-03, 06:55 AM | Well a 3 eh? Take him out the back and trip down a well? While I'd be happy to play a character with an Int or Wisdom of 3 because you could get up to all sorts of self-destructive activities and leading to all sorts of funny things. A 3 in charisma is hard though. Basically, you couldnt convince anyone of anything, you may even look completely normal but you've got the social skills of someone who's sneak a retard into a spermbank and try and convince the rest of the world it was hilarious. Why he/she.... it has the disfunction of not being able to get any point across is probably a mental malfunction of some sort. Personally, if I *had* to play the Cha: 3 it would be someone with Tourettes Syndrome. You get halfway through a sentance, devolve into barks, yawls, swearing, screaming and then continue speaking completely normally. :) |
| Jeriel12-02-03, 09:38 AM | I should be more specific. Barring being annoying outside the context of the game, so the other players do not want to kill him. He might also think of makeing him self extremely uncharismatic in reguards to his race, like being a 7 foot tall, beardless dwarf, who takes great offence to being called human. | The_Yellow_Dart_Swinger12-02-03, 10:57 AM | Here's a few idea's i've come up with, use them or don't. 1. An obvious physical disfigurment/smell, while charisma is a mental stat, looking and smelling like a walking turd is probably going to have people shun you. 2. Be annoying and rude, when someone asks your opinion, curse them out (or the equivilent) and be pestimistic on all situtuations, like if you guys did a good job on a mission, ramble on about what could have gone wrong, be blunt in a rude sort of way. (That dress makes you look like a zombie). 3. Be reclusive, never talk unless spoken too, always in the back of the party. When you need to ask a question it always takes you about 10 minutes to get a person's attention and its always as short as possible, maybe you speak softly so people can't hear you, and instead of repeating it, you just walk off. 4. Be BORING, yea your smart and perceptive, but prehaps you talk in a monotone and it takes you 15 minutes of rambling to answer a question, you constintly go off topic, I had a math teacher like this once, talked in a monotone and kept on talking, it put me to sleep, just like my.. yea, get the picture? Your so boring and long winded that no one wants to talk to you cause it would put them to sleep. 5. Kinda goes with 1, but be disgusting, have your character pick his nose and eat the boogers or something, scratch his butt at all the wrong times. (Character walks up to a queen) "Greetings queeny" *Scratches butt* If he gets his hand's dirty with something more or less disgusting, he just wipes them on his pants or shirt. |
| Tzor12-02-03, 01:52 PM | A charisma of 3 isn't really just a "low" charisma, it's a rock bottom charisma. Especially when other stats are not in the same ballpark range, due consideration must be given to the reasons why that charisma is as low as it is. Once those reasons are determined, the way to play the character can be derived. Charisma is the force of the character's personality. But that personality is also determined by a number of other factors that include elements of all the stats of a character. The character, for example, is smart and wise. So it cannot be a simple matter of what he says, because he would be smart enough to know how to influence people and wise enough to know when he needed to influence people. So the standard "just be rude" doesn't work in this case. The most obvious reason would be some sort of physical deformity that would so mar his looks that what was said, or even how it was said becomes insignificant compared to who said it. Normally I am reluctant to simply make such a statement that "low" charisma means ugly, but it does require a reson that cannot be easily negated by being smart or wise, and this can indeed be such a reason. The Hunchback of Notre Dame, may have had high stats in Str, Con, Dex, and Wis, but no one really paid him any significant attention purely because of appearance. This can help with a low charisma person but 3 is a case of hideously bad charisma. Consider that charisma is also used for "Use Magical Device." Does a wand care how you look? Or even how you speak? (Well if it is command word activated it might.) So it cannot be merely looks that makes the very low charisma alone. It also must represent a complete lack of self confidence. Having a -4 on all chraisma based skill checks is a tremendous penalty. It should emcompas a number of factors, including looks, speach, and a severe lack of self esteem. |
| Tobek12-02-03, 10:26 PM | First of all i would like to say the other suggestions for possible reasons for such a low CHA score were very good. I see someone like this being like a character from Hitchikers Guide to the Gallaxy with a few alterations. Namely Marvin the Robot. He's the Manically depressed robot. 1. Marvin the robot would always talk about that he was 100's of times smarter than the humans around him describing himself as having a brain the size of a Planet. 2. Is always depressed and complaining that the tasks he is given are always too low for someone of his level of Intelligence. 3. Hates pretty much everything around him even interacting with other robots. He also continues on how much he hates anything around him from the ocean, stars, to even the space ships doors and their smug attitudes. 4. He also constantly complains about about his mechanical difficulties and how no one cares. Also about the pain he is in. Some things you may consider implimenting might be. - Be average looking for your race or slightly below average with a slight condition. - Be either very quiet and say very little and have few social skills/ Or constantly talking complaining about everything around you, (with an 18 wis you might be very street smart, constantly critique everyones actions around you saying how you would do it differently) - But in at inopportune moments interupting others around you. - Being completely self centered in your conversations. You have the only valid points and what you have to say is more important and they should listen to what you have to say. (can go with prior suggestion.) - Be very crude and rude. In your language and mannerisms. - Bathe at regular 10 year intervals. These are just a few things that come to mind. ( i'm at work so it's a little hard to organize and put too much thought into structure.) Just remember low CHA scores don't mean very ugly. You may just be so depressing and anoying that no one can stand to be near you. |
| andrew barrientos12-03-03, 01:45 PM | This Character concept has been discontinued. Playing a 3 Charisma pretty much means not playing. Thanks for your input, I should of known better. |
| Lhiannon Sidhe12-06-03, 03:01 AM | Play him like Marvin the Paranoid Android from the Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Constantly Pessimistic and Depressed to the point of being annoying. "Brain the size of a small planet, and they get me to take you up to the bridge... I can stick my head in a bucket of water if you like, as well. Would you like me to do that? Oh god... I hate that door, it's so depressing..." |
