| Cheesykees06-22-05, 01:10 PM | Hi, I'm currently working on a character a Gnome wizard and I've got a basic idea for a backgroundstory: "Ex engineer becomes a wizard after he experimenting a little, combining enginering with magic" But I would like to add some nice details and I'm really in this 'No inspiration' period... Could you guys help me out? |

Here we go.. 1) The gnome is an obsessive book-reader in addition to being an engineer. It actually helps his work, because he reads the manuals to every object he gets. He discovered his talent for the arcane one day when he accidently picked up "Becoming a Wizard for Dummies" and was halfway through the book before he realized the rubbish he was reading. On his next engineering project, a "Prestidigitation" spell just came to him, and screwed in several bolts instantaneously for him. Since then, he has been researching magic, looking for more spells that would help him in his chosen profession. ---This would mean you'd need to choose some spells each level that had to do with creation / fixing ... etc.etc. 2) When altering a gnomish project, the project blew up in his face. Later he came to find out that a once-trusted colleague had sabotaged it, and intended to kill him. (Your character would be a great engineer, and inspire some jealousy). Since then, you've been studying magic to protect yourself. ---This would entail a few protection spells and buff spells in addition to whatever you want. Also, after a few levels of wizard, look into the "Maestre" (I think that is spelt right)... it would fit the storyline perfectly, I beleive. |

It was here that he found the missing component of his machinery. But new magic is a fiercely guarded secret and often dificult to come across and so it has forced the illustrious gnome engineer (he still referes to himself as an engineer as magic is just another tool) travells the realms looking for magic that will aid in his ultimate quest. *as a side note you may want to look at artificer from Ebberon |
