| ChantyMalo04-05-06, 01:50 PM | I have played D&D for some time, but never developed a character very much. Now I want to do it and create a good story for my PC. The campaing is in Faerun. The character. Cedric VanDrake of ShadowDale Human Chaotic Good Fighter lvl 1 Str 18 Dex 17 Con 17 Int 14 Wis 16 Cha 12 Heroic Destiny Heroes luck Power Attack what I was planning: He is the son of a weaponsmith in the shadowdale, but he has always dream about being an adventurer. Every time he could escape from his responsabilities he went to Elminister towers to see if he could find the mage or someother adventurers. Once he even saw Elminister...from a far. When he grew up, he made a deal with a soldier in the Shadowdale, to pay him (robbing money and weapons from his father bussiness) to recibe training. Never the less the training was completely wrong, since the soldier had no intention of teaching him anything usefull. Any way he though he was a true warrior and when his father died, Cedirc sells the store and goes to the Old skull inn to try to join a group of adventurers. But there he is shown that he knows nothing about true combat... as he is changelled and easily defeated in a duel by a very small elven maid fencer. Humiiated and furious...and with nowhere to go, Cedric leaves the shadowdale searching for adventure himself... thinking he can teach himself how to fight. |

Sure, level 1 fighters are weak compared to higher levels, but look at your stats...this guy should be a God before it's all said and done. At level 1, he's already a stud, so his background should reflect that in some way. When creating a background, it should be as descriptive as possible. Why was he leaving his duties to see a mage? A goal for a fighter should be more than learning how to fight. Could he be seeking out the supreme fighting instructor from Ranefaust(or whatever.) Stole from his dad, so is his alignment NE? If so, perhaps he accidently killed the fencer (or killed to prove how powerful he was) and was forced to flee the town. You may even forget the fencer and use that same scenario with the guard. Just suggestions, but make sure you keep the story as full as needed. You may run into some of the characters in your story in your campaign, so it'd be good to have something solid, so you know whether your character would be friendly, cautious, or simply draw his weapon at the sight of them. It will keep you and the DM on the same page and reduce confusion. |
| ChantyMalo04-05-06, 06:04 PM | Well... I was thinking he was going to Elimisnister tower becasue a lot of adventurers go to see him. He was trying to find one that would take him as his aprentice... a fighter... not the mage. The fencer would be of considerable higher level than him. But I see your point, even at level one with those scores he is quite a warrior. And robbing from his parents I dont see him as NE...just as a dumb teenager : :embarrass For the story it would work a lot better if he started as lvl 1 expert... but then there is the MIN/MAX problem... :P |
| ChantyMalo04-06-06, 11:33 AM | Ok, here is the second review of the story... would love to hear what people think about it. Cedric was the only son of a weaponsmith in the shadowdales. His mother died when he was born and his father had to raise him all alone. The only other family Cedric had was his uncle, the brother of his mother, who was an adventurer, a rogue and a tomb rober. Cedric spend all his childhood in his father forge, helping him with the work of equiping the shadowdale military and the adventurers that came from time to time. Everytime his uncle was in town Cedric will go with him to the Old Skull Inn to hear him talk about his adventures and it was from this influence that he decided that one day he would become a great adventurer, the greatest of all time. When he became a teenager he started to pester adventurers, fooling around the Inn or even daring to get close to Elminister towers, always looking for some one who would take him under his wing and teach him the art of combat and adventuring. Finally he found an old retired warrior who acepted to teach him in exchange for some money and goods that Cedric stole from his father store. Having worked all his childhood as a weponsmith aprentice, Cedric was a quite big and strong boy, even at his young age. And thus Cedric starting his instrucion under Agrosh, and old human barbarian from the east, that teach him the use of weapons and armorsand also his own fighting style, based on raw power and huge wepaonry. Cedric forged himself a huge oversized sword. Agrosh departed back to the eastlands and not much later Cedrics father died of old age. Now free of responsabilities, and with out family left, Cedric sold hs fathers store and bought equipment to join the local militia. But when he tried to enter all the guards laughed at his quite ridiculous huge sword. Cedric challenged a young guard to prove that his technique was superior. The duel took place with such ill fortune that Cedric killed the guard. Having never killed before, Cedric was shocked...as where the rest of the militia. He left shadowdale after that confused and feeling guilty but at the same time proud and amazed of his own power. Not far from his home town he meet a group of adventurers and ask to join them. THe quite experienced party told him that they didnt needed a fighter with such poor technique and ridiculous giant size sword. Once again Cedirc challenged the parties warrior to a duel, but the luck (good or awfull) that helped him the guard was not enough to defeat an experienced elven maid fencer. The sorcerous elvish blade destroyed Cedric sword and almost kills him. The adventurers took the beated and humiliated Cedric to an Illmanter temple leaving him there, and even paying the priest to cure and attend the poor boy. When he recovered the adventurers had already left. Cedric had many things to think about. HE questioned himself about his decision of being an adventurer and a fighter. He killed a man and almost gets killed himself, his sword was broken and his technique was proven to be worthless. Cedric took the scraps on his old sword and forged a new one. One that wasnt so big and clumsy, one that wasnt based in the teaching of Agrosh, but in his own ideas and his fathers experiences of swordmaking. And so he left the temple, decided to learn from the world the true about fighting, to create his own technique of swordplay and to one day become the most powerfull jed....er...warrior on Faerun. |
