Dynneroth 04-16-06, 06:33 PM	I've been working on an NPC for a high to epic level campaign. The NPC is a female storm giant/half silver dragon sorceress. I started a build on her, but applying a template to a monster and then adding sorcerer levels got me confused. Using the stats of a storm giant and then adding the half-dragon template I got a strength of 47!?! Is that correct? I was wanting her weapon of choice to be a composite longbow with a strength bonus equal to hers. That would make it a +18, right? Anyway, help fleshing this lady out and giving her a backstory in the Forgotten Realms would be greatly appreciated. <Edit> What I have so far... CR 15 Alignment NG Help adding sorcerer levels and fixing whatever is broken here. I would also like ideas for items appropriate for the NPC. My idea is that she is in the process of making a home in the peaks of the Spine of the World northwest of Mithril Hall. She is somewhat of a hermit sorceress looking to travel the planes and other worlds to find other beings like herself, or short of that, finding others who are accepting of her uniqueness. Her deepest desire is to find a male half-dragon storm or cloud giant to spend her life with traveling and eventually finding a place to settle and live and raise a family, even though she knows her children would probably live as difficult a life as she has had.
Rudysseus 04-17-06, 09:06 PM	Well, off-hand one thing I'd suggest taking a second look at is wearing a breastplate while attempting to cast Arcane spells. Unless it is a character concept that sometimes her magic doesn't work, that spell failure chance could bite you later. And from what experience I have in high/epic level games, a single spell can sometimes make or break a particular battle. Might look into bracers of armor or something like that, instead. As for background, it would seem likely she grew up relatively isolated from the world, most likely in mountains, and most likely those further south, as I think Frost Giants are the dominant variety in the Spine of the World mountains. Likely her features would make it very uncomfortable to live in a standard society of storm giants, so she is either somewhat withdrawn, despite her impressive charisma, or she has had to develop that charisma to make friends around her. Or you could take that the opposite way and have them all see her as special for her half-dragon nature.
Dynneroth 04-18-06, 09:43 AM	@ Rudysseus: Breastplate was copied from the storm giant entry. Wasn't even thinking arcane spell failure. Of course breastplate would go. Cloak or bracers would definitely be the way to go. I'll edit when I get the chance. Thanks. And about location, maybe Dragonspine Mountains? Anyone else want to add their two coppers?
Rudysseus 04-19-06, 02:17 AM	Dragonspine mmmmmight be a bit of a stretch. From what I could find, it seems to be filled with Red and White dragons, which would be natural enemies of a silver dragon. There are giants that live in there, as well, so perhaps it could work, though. I have looked through the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting book and of all the mountain entries, there are none that look any better than the Dragonspine for your character. I tried to be as thorough as possible, but perhaps I did miss one.

Are you referring to Gerti Orelsdottr (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/fr/20010411c)? She is a Cleric of Auril and Runecaster. And yes, that may help a little, but her character is a lot different from what I'm looking for. Gerti is frost giant nobility, my giantess would be somewhat of an outcast. But thanks for the suggestion!
