so in my party there are only 3 of us, 1 of which misses about half the time. i realize this is a small party but most of the time we get by just fine, we have almost just started and are level 6. the problem is the person who misses is the rogue so anytime we need to open a lock we must bash it in and alert everyone(or everything) on the other side. As a barb/ranger what would be the best way to get around this? even though i cannot detect traps i was considering putting a bunch of skill points into open lock and getting masterwork lockpicks. any suggestions?

take one level of rogue and place your skill points accordingly. even better, take two levels of rogue so you get evasion. nothing upsets people more than a ranger/barb who doesn't get hurt by the fireball.

Your at level six. Have someone take Leadership. Get a rogue cohort. Do your dangdest to keep him alive.

By the way are you missing an arcanist too? A sorcerer might make an even better option if he has knock on his list of spells known (or a wand.)

yes sir we are faulting one of those too, we improvise a lot. i ended up putting a bunch of skill points into open lock and got masterwork thieves tools. i have a lot of health and whenever we cant break open a door without standing near it i open the lock and brace for a hit.

ouch. no rogue 1/2 the time. no mage of any sort at all. Who else is in the party. tell me a cleric at least.

I normally don't suggest this but Unearthed Arcana has an option called gestalt. You might want to talk to your DM about a rebuild. How you insert this into the game is up to you. Of course that assumes you choose to do it in game rather than just having new builds take over where old ones left off.

If the DM is willing to let you try out gestalt but wants an in-game explanation come back and someone on this board should be able to help.

I second the gestalt option. With so few party members gestalts can help fill in the variouis party roles. Just be sure your DM knows what hes doing (gestalt-wise) or the game could end up broken pretty quickly.

I play in a game with 2-3 players and we use gestalts all the time.
