| Travis_of_the_cosmos03-16-06, 02:42 AM | So this is what I have. As a child she grew up in a small sect of highly religious elves, most of which became clerics. Without warning, one night a group of human raiders came and burnt the villiage down, killing both her parents, and scarring her brother, leaving him with sight in only one eye. He is taken away along with several other of the male children and my character is left for dead. But she survives, being strong willed, and finds shelter. She denounces her religion, insisting a god cannot exist in such a world. So she finds a nearby city and quickly befriends the local librarian, who also happens to be a wizard, and trains under her. So that's her story. I had her keep the ability to turn one undead a day, which furthers her belief that the power is from within, not from a diety. What do you think? |
| JulesCARV03-16-06, 07:53 AM | So.... what does she want to do? Does she want to find the raiders and slit their throats, one by one? Does she want to kill ALL humans? Does she want to stay with the librarian and sit around in the library learning more wizardry? Has the librarian come up with some sort of open quest for her ("My library lacks a copy of the Tome of Apos'trop'he, the sacred text of the Da-sh people. I have no idea where it is, but would you mind looking around for it, dear?"), which coincidentally lets her meet the other adventurers? Does she seek to spread atheism and "scientific" (arcane) rationality and displace the hoary old myths and legends of false gods? |
| Travis_of_the_cosmos03-16-06, 05:30 PM | Yes, she's highly interested in studies, pretty much of religion, wanting to gain all information to help her prove it wrong, arcane, and as much as she can. She has a low wisdom, so she is an absent minded study monger. (this just came to me) The librarian that took care of her recently died, and her children now squabble over who owns the library, so my character is off to find a library where she can study to her heart's content. Her main motivation is to find her brother and pay revenge to those that murdered her parents and scarred her brother. She does not have a prejudice against any race and barely even distinguishes race, only their actions and attitudes toward dieties. |

Gods make everyone believe they're godlike, but they lie to everyone!! This would suit an elf who thinks the deities have abandoned him. There may be one godlike creature, but he is unknown and as such called by the Athar, The Great Unknown (like Ao in the Forgotten Realms). think about it.. it is in no way wizardlike, however, as you get no spells sadly. |

Good background. How does she plan to find the human raiders. Its gonna be pretty hard if they're seperated. |
| Eilistraeeeee03-30-06, 07:21 AM | finding human raiders with a good memory (intelligence) and becoming a wizard (scry, locate person) won't be that big a problem.. depending on your DM that is. |
