I want it to be of a NG alignment, but also an assassin so I have a few questions: Whats a good background for a good-aligned half devil? Or a neutral, at least? How could you justify an assassin being good, or, again, should I just settle on a neutral alignment for this character? I'm considering the name Azrael...a little bit of irony for the characters race. |

You have to think what makes the character evil, and then spin it around to make it good. For example, orcs are evil because of their chaotic self-serving natures. Insert orc in evil empire as leader of resistance- chaotic alignment helps, and the only way to be self-serving when trying to overthrow an evil empire is to be good. So what makes fey'ri evil? The obvious one is demonic blood. Demons, according to the MM, are the pinnacle of ferocity and will recklessly attack others. Ferocity = anger. So priority one is to redirect the character's anger back at a) evil, b) his own race or c) both. This is fairly easy. Just have the character traumatized severely by his own race or by evil as a child, and unlike other fey'ri, have him realize that he was. Next, fey'ri are raised exclusively among their own kind and are incredibly racists, considering non-fey'ri life expendable, so for a good fey'ri to exist, he must be capable of empathizing with other races and considering them equals. Find a way to expose the character to another race at a young age and connecting with them, perhaps growing to love them somehow. Two possibilities come to mind. The first involves the fact that fey'ri are constantly trying to raise their population by finding sun elves to breed with. The fey'ri in question could be raised by his sun elf slave, secretly his parent, or could be the child of a paladin who was imprisoned and violated by fey'ri before she escaped. The second is that the character is the son of a scholar and is raised to learn the stories, histories and myths of all the different races, and thereby learns to empathize with them. When he sees the atrocities being commited by his own race... |
