| GoofsterStud07-28-05, 05:30 PM | Brief Analysis on the situation: I am a paladin/fighter/anointed knight. I’m a young boy with an incredibly high charisma. He is a 16 year old from a strong family heritage that he is just becoming aware of since his core family lived in the woodlands and did not socialize with the outer family. CHA = 25. I currently have a maxed out diplomacy. I have a 21 Diplomacy with charisma. My character is a Paladin of Helm. The Head Priest of the local church requested me to send message about this stronghold of evil near their small town. Along the mission, we notified the other helm temple for assistance, as well as other various gods to party members. In the process we met up with an arcane NPS that could use the spell teleport and the journey became incredibly quick. Current Situation: Our crew has now made our way back in town weeks ahead of schedule. The head priest left in the opposite direction, to request help from another temple in the opposite location. The dilemma is that now we have many adventurers in town and people willing to fight and nobody to lead them. Nothing is really happening, they all are just settling in the time being. My character is ready to do something about this and try to be leader. He is now feeling the need to take center stage and make speeches…etc to help put the show on the road. Is this a bad idea? Do you have any better ideas on what my character could possibly due pertaining to this situation. I was thinking about discussing with the cleric in the temple to help prepare a speech and maybe include rewards for a few finds. Such as a hidden entrance into this evil stronghold. How would you go about this and wording your speech…etc. |

With such a high diplomacy score, you should really take the time and try and make your in character speech one that matches the roll you get (forgoing a natural 1). Is sounds to me as if you are already prepared to do more than just roll the die say something like "i give a speech to lead the army" and move on from there, which is good. It would really be a waste of your abilities to aid another (i mean, DC 15 for a +2) some other schmuck in their diplomacy just because your character is a little young. If NPC's try to make it an issue, dont let it get you off track, and just ignore it until you can confront them later and diplomisize them into seeing things your way. With a forceful personality comes great responsibility. Plus your saving throws, turning ability and healing should be top notch for a paladin (freakin 25 CHA? holy horse poo). Oh, and dont fidget, people hate to watch someone trying to make a speach when they fidget and move around a lot. Index Cards! Use index cards. That's all. ~Rain~ |

| GoofsterStud08-01-05, 11:31 AM | They are here to assist in destroying the vile temple from what I know. I wan't to gather them up and start an army almost. At the very least find out what every groups focus is and there motives for being here knowing the situation. I want to find the leaders and get everyone read for when the head priestest comes back. I want to notify them on the details they might not know... I want to motivate and heighten moral. |
| Morka08-01-05, 02:49 PM | Be warned: because you have an incredible charisma score doesn't mean what you say is wise; it just means there is more people who will listen to you. Tell them to jump in the sea, they will. Your character make me think about Joan of Arc: everyone is willing to follow you, but you don't know where to go. If you wait the Head Priest, most adventurer will loose patience and either leave or begin to fight each other. So you should leave now and attack the evil temple. I was about to suggest you to search an adventurer of experience in all the people who are in town for the fight as advisor, but it might end in 1) internal struggle between factions or 2) they will loose your respect and will no longer listen to you. So you should talk to everyone in small groups, asking what everyone think they should do. Also, roleplay your prayers to Helm; the DM might answer with hints on what to do... |

Only once all that has been cleared out can you prepare a speech and give instructions. In fact, it's in doing this that you will discover the need to give speeches and long-winded harangues. Write down on a sheet of paper the goals you want to accomplish, and the means to achieve those goals. For instance, if you wanted to build an army, you could go with: Levy Up an Army 1- find/build headquarters 1- find artisans and workers 2- gather materials and funds 2- find soldiers 3- train soldiers 1- find veteran teachers and leaders 2- acquire weapons and equipment Depending on your DM and campaign, this list could be expanded or simplified in the extreme. Once you have a clear picture of what you need to do, it's easy to know what your character should do. If necessary, request help from the various local adventurers, and don't be afraid to give them responsibilities. You could, for instance, request from a veteran soldier insight into the best location for your headquarters, and to a resourceful comrade in a nearby town you could ask that he finds the workers you need to build this fortress. It's pointless to try to come up with speeches until you know what you want to do. Take command, seize control of the situation, and become a leader, instead of blurting out speeches without no real position of authority. In short, help yourself before you ask others to help you. |
