I have thought up a background concept, but wanted to see if it's was any good. In a nutshell the wizard's son gets kidnapped by what I'm thinking will be a necromancer. My guy ends up killing said necromancer, but unfortunately not before some experiments were done and the boy is dead. He takes what remains of his son to numerous clerics, but all say they are unable to help. (Due to some magical interference set up by the necro I suppose.) However, he finally takes him to a cleric of (let's say) Nerull. The cleric, not being the kind sort, asks something of him in return. He gives my character a small tree. (Like a bonzai, but maybe bigger.) He asks my character to harvest organs from certain types of people/creatures and plant them into the soil around the tree. The cleric will keep the body and it's already preserved from Since my DM lets us get a few magical items to start out I could have the tree. I figure for every organ harvested an apple would grow on the tree. On the outside they look like ordinary apples, but on the inside is a smaller version of each organ planted. (And probably blood.) However, eating one of these grants a small bonus for the day. Like say bonus to Con for a liver or an extra spell memorized for a brain. However, it'll be random as to which you get. As well the apples grow back after like a week or few days or something. Though none of that is important. Just the tree itself for story purposes is all I'd need. Though, really, I suppose it's just an interesting prop. Now the big bad guy in our campaign so far seems to be a cleric that we accidentally freed who has taken over the body of some sort of black winged anti-angel. So I was thinking of making on of the needed organs the heart of a powerful evil cleric. Which would provide plenty motivation for my wizard to tag up with my group. Since I think I'm going to go NG I have no doubt that some of the target organs would provide some moral dillemmas. In fact personality wise I was thinking of a kind of upbeat person except maybe a little sarcastic. However, of course, when it comes to getting what he needs to have his son back he'd be a bit more grave and serious. Also, when drunk, he becomes a sobbing wreck. (Drinking & eating is rather prominent in our campaign. Our base is a vineyard...) As far as appearance I'm thinking of a human about 35 years old. He wears a gray robe with bright red and orange fire streaks going diagonally across his lower torso and shoulders. He wears shaded goggles on top of his head. He has black short cropped hair with a beard. His staff is charcoal black with orange lines spiraling up to the blunt top. (As you may have guessed he's going to specialize in fire spell.) He carries several cases covered in runes with the Draconic word for "igloo" written on the bottom. (Igloo coolers for storing organs.) So is this any good? Any comments? |
