| Rhaynin06-28-03, 05:28 AM | Hi At first, you will have to excuse me for my bad english.. i am not very familiar to it. But here is the story. I play a neutral Halfling Psionic in our current D&D campaign in the Forgotten Realms, who is on his way to rescue a kidnapped party member with 3 others. The group consists of two neutral good clerics and one lawful good fighter .. thats it so far but on the last encounter a damn mage  zapped my halfling with a flash and so he died. Well i was kinda supprised cause i didnt expected the mage to be so strong but anyway. My charakter was lucky cause our new party cleric was able to resurect me but then the problem occured. My old Halfling body coudn't be helped so a new random body has been created... And you can imagine how suprised my Halfling was as he realized that he was turned into a female drow  Now thats the problem.. i am kinda new to roleplaying so i am not sure how to deal with that.. Would be very nice if you could give me some hints or tips how i could roleplay a female drow with the soul of my neutral halfling psion... PS: Btw, i am male thx |
| Nei06-28-03, 08:35 AM | You could play her just like you played the halfling -after all, only the body changes, not the soul. You could add some extras to it, such as being uneasy in a new body -just think of the difference in height and the whole new perspective it gives. Make her a bit clumsy perhaps. If you're in a mature group, you could also roleplay the problems that come from changing gender. How would her surroundings react if she is still acting like a male, for instance? Or how would she feel if a male became attracted to her? But promise me one thing: DO NOT make her into a stereotypical lesbian drow in chainmail bikini! (please, please, pretty please don't do this) I hope this has given you some more insights, Nei EDIT: P.S.: Welcome to the boards! |
| Rhaynin06-28-03, 11:08 AM | Thanks for your reply Nei... :) I think i will add that clumsy feel to her... But now, i am kinda screwed how i should name her :D and it will be interesting how the guys in my party will treat her.. well we will see. And i will definitly NOT make her into a stereotypical lesbian in chainmail bikini :D;) I intend to play a more serious character.. and so I will play her realistic including genderproblems and so on... Hopefully the next townguard wont kill her but she's clever enough to avoid that... at least i hope so  And thx for your input |

(You, personally) Would you get a name change just because of something some mad scientist did that changed your appearance? Do you change any part of your name when you change clothes? |
| JusticeZero06-28-03, 01:19 PM | I'm going to add that i'm not entirely clear on what happenned. Reincarnate is a Druid spell, not Cleric. Clerics use Ressurrect, and for that, a tiny flake of ash (a Disintegrate spell leaves more than enough of those) is sufficient to recreate your body in whole. |
| Rhaynin06-28-03, 05:20 PM | Well justice.. your right with reincarnate, but i have to say that my DM didnt even tell me anything about the spell, in fact i believed the one who brought me back to life was a cleric... (as far as i know, he wanted to keep it a secret, but dont ask me why) I found it for myself very confusing to hear my character still called by my "old" name.. i know it sounds strange.. when your female character still reacts to the name Rhaynin... then its definitly wierd..He has been killed.. and was "reborn" as a new character.. so i think its right if i rename him. And any further tips are appreciated... thx |
| Airsucker06-28-03, 07:03 PM | I read a trilogy of fantasy by Gail Baudino. Each book starts with Dragonsomething. In the books, a group of soldiers are subjected to a sex change for treating women rather badly. They're stuck that way and they learn to deal with it, each in their own way. If you can find it, it's an excellent read. I would say that if your character didn't know anything about being female or drow, then she still doesn't and has much learning ahead of her. If you can stand to do it, I'd recommend that you go find a book made for pre-teen girls heading into womanhood. I think you might be surprised at what we go through. Hygene is important, BTW, or infections and odors happen. That might be an unpleasent discovery. Unpleasant info, perhaps, but it's life. |
| Rhaynin06-28-03, 07:15 PM | Well thanks for your input... i will eventually grab those books you mentioned... And sadly he/or she really doesnt know anything about being female.. but i think i wont go in deph over women hygen or something like that ;) I will just try to play a realistic femal drow with characteristics from my halfling... but again thx for your help... |
| JusticeZero06-29-03, 12:19 AM | Originally posted by Rhaynin I found it for myself very confusing to hear my character still called by my "old" name.. i know it sounds strange.. when your female character still reacts to the name Rhaynin... then its definitly wierd..He has been killed.. and was "reborn" as a new character.. so i think its right if i rename him.So just use the feminine form of the same name. Perhaps "Rhayna". |
| Rhaynin06-29-03, 07:19 AM | One of my friends in my group already tried to convince me to do so... but in my ears it sounds horrible ;) So i will just give her a new name... i think that will do fine.. but thx |
