| Princeoflowlight04-12-04, 01:35 AM | 29 wisdom. Now, I daresay that's more than double what my Wis would be if I were jotted down into D&D stats. I can see how you can RP a character who's smarter or more charismatic than yourself. But Wisdom is a little bit different...mainly because it's harder to pin down than the other mental stats (imho). Any tips? The character has 14 in Int and Cha if that helps. |
| stephenKingMinion04-12-04, 10:33 PM | Well, technically in the DMG it states that depressingly high stats in one thing result in the rising of other stats (in this case, Int and Cha). ...But since Wisdom is difficult to pin, I'd just let it fly as a nice Will save. End of story. |
| grapedog04-13-04, 09:52 AM | you get all the jokes, you get all the sarcasm, you get all the hidden meanings...wise, you are super wise...crazy wise even. Like the old master, but more wise than even him...everyone is a grasshopper to you... |
| titlt04-15-04, 10:29 AM | And you would basically be able to tell if a person is lying and get to basically read their thoughts by getting every hidden meaning and so on. |
| EntertheKrill04-16-04, 10:49 AM | Not automatically of course, you'd get a *huge* bonus to sense motive however. |
| Sisyfos04-16-04, 02:48 PM | Characters with high wis and evil alignment are even more interesting role play problems... Who is that enlightened being who is also utterly evil? Sisyfos |
| EntertheKrill04-16-04, 08:22 PM | The ultimate puppeteer who has ascended so much that he scoffs at the lack of insight of mere mortals. Tzeentch has a veeeeeeeeery high Wisdom (and Int) b/c he is so insightful etc... etc... Playing a high Wis (and high Int) evil char. would be fun, which is exactly why that's the main villain in my campagin behind everything the PCs have to stop. |
| LiXinjian04-17-04, 08:32 AM | He makes all kinds of deductions from very simple observations. Think Sherlock Holmes, here. With that big a sense motive and spot checks, it should be easy for you. Your DM should give you insider info on many things, most of which shouldn't be important so that the game remains fun for you as a player. But role-playing wise, boy, what a blast! "DM: Okay, this is a typical, albeit small, waiting room. (DM hands a note to the player) Player1: Hmm... somebody's been here just a few minutes ago. Went straight to the backroom.. lemme see...Yes, yes, he was in a hurry. Well, actually, SHE was in a hurry because she didn't take off her coat.. Hmmm. Probably the sage's absent-minded servant who was off on some errand for her master, and realized mid-way she had left the package she was meant to deliver here. Remember that horseman who almost trampled us over? Player2: You know, we're only here to meet with that sage we hired last week so that he can give us the info we need on that Skalawagh Rutello guy from Waterdeep. No need to go around throwing half-conceived theories and suspicions around. Player1: Yeah, I know. I also know you think I'm a show-off bastard, but detective skills like mine need to be honed and sharpened. I cannot afford to let them dull away. Player2: What?!?!! Player1: No, the barbarian didn't rat you out. I can read your face like an open book, my friend. Ah, but I hear a noise in the other room: I believe our host is making ready to see us in, now. Look sharp: he doesn't like to deal with the likes of us and he might be tempted to up the price if we don't look decent enough for his liking. He is a man with many debts, after all..." Poorly written, but you get the idea. |
