| Aufenshauft08-20-04, 02:19 PM | I was posting on another forum on my favorite all-time quirky character. I was wondering how many other unusual, well developed, character concepts people have come up with. Below is the copy of what I put in the other forum. The lone survivor of a necromantic comune working to better the lives of the common man outside of city walls. They were just researching using skeletal oxen to plow fields more efficiently when a malicious attack from a band of paladins whiped them out. The senseless slaughter saddened young Jules, but he did not let it deter him from the dream of a better world through death. Jules escaped and started to work as a scribe and historian to have more acceptance of undead in daily tasks, eventually writing several best-sellers in Waterdeep (also prized books for burnings by the native druids); 'Born again Necromancy - a new beginning to the oldest magic', 'Undead but not forgotten- social inequity for the living dead', and 'Zen and the art of Autoembalming'. His is not an easy life, being called a blight on humanity and having several death sentences by various life-oriented groups, but he is making a difference in the world. Paladins and rightious priests need to prove the undead are dangerous before hunting them in the city, the sewer guild is seriously considering the option of Skeletal rats to clean the pipes, certain taverns have quietly accepted help of dishwashing skeletons, and the unholy abominations of darkness now have the right to go into bars without cloaking spells so they can enjoy life even when they have none. I have used him as a good NPC to show others that even Evil characters are not neccessarily a danger to them, or the automatic target of a paladin's wrath. This guy is working just fine in the city, is helpful and all that, and truly believes in what he is doing. He is a great resource for people who need information or emergency aid. |
| Morka08-20-04, 08:02 PM | I love it! Just a question: what alignment did you gave him? I think he is the perfect Lawful Evil, but I'd like to know more opinions. |
| Kitt-su08-20-04, 09:03 PM | This guy sounds something more along the lines of a Neutral/Good. He doesn't do it to oppress he doesn't do it for the betterance of himself. He does it for the children! Ur...uhh, and the folk and stuff, ya. :b: |
| Trydan08-24-04, 11:35 AM | Wow! That is a really cool concept. Novel and practical, but without being extremely far fetched or over powered. It has lots of roleplaying opportunities (both cooperation and conflict) too. I've just spent the last five minutes running through the idea in my head, and have thought of numerous uses for such an idea for my own characters and campaigns. And, I mean... "Zen, and the art of Autoembalming". Talk about inspired. Yep... really good. I'd nominate this for "cool character concept of the year award". To quote Morka... "I love it!"  |
| Wizardman08-31-04, 02:03 AM | I don't usually like quirky characters, but that is awesome! I also have to ask after alignment. You say good, and capital E Evil. This guy sounds neutral, or good. |
| Aufenshauft08-31-04, 11:48 AM | Oh, he sounds good, but only because he has been taking pains to look like he is not a threat to others. Get the neutral people to accept him. This character also joined up some mercenaries outside of town for the sole purpose of getting them some experience (through the DMs plot) and then kill them off in rituals for his most powerful undead. The argument to be presented is that they accepted the possibility of death in their contract and that they might not be resurrected (since the Lathandrite was explained the evil ethics of bringing everyone back from the dead without really good cause). This keeps the balance and lets their souls go to whereever, and their bodies are used here to further the cause of civilization (otherwise we just have to drag their carcases back to town and stop the adventure to tell their parents they died). He was evil, but calculated. |
| Speeko7708-31-04, 05:40 PM | I once played a goodly cleric by the name of Rince. At birth he was possessed by a devil. An exorcism was attempted but the exorcist's heart stopped and the devil's soul was infused with poor Rince's. The whole ordeal left Rince sickly and weak (8 str and con) Obviously he was not very able to fend for himself. Since they shared the same body, the devil (twizzerix) took it upon himself to manifest and defend their shared body whenever Rince became extremely frightened or simply was not physically able to accomplish something. Rince became a cleric of the LG sun god. It was a homebrew god and this particular sun god happened to have a LE twin brother, the moon god. Twizzerix followed suit and became an evil paladin of the moon god. Since Rince had superior will power he is able to maintain control of the body, despite Twizzerix's plea's for release. There were times when the release of Twizzerix was necessary for survival, at these times Rince would strike a pact with Twizzerix. For example Rince might say "If I let you out you must rescue the boy from the burning house". Twizzerix would be bound to his pact and would complete the task. Unfortunately once Twizzerix was released Rince had a rather difficult time regaining control. I had seperate character sheets for each one. It made for some hilarious and entertaning sessions since the rest of the party had no clue of Rince's.... "condition". Rince didn't tell anyone because he feared they would shun him. Rince was prone to playing chess against "himself" as well as talking to "himself" in mirrors. |
| Zavél09-23-04, 09:38 PM | Hi, im playing a curious Sun-Elf whom sought out Lichdoom.... yes u heard me right i became an archlich. lvl 13 wiz, 3 archmage lich. The thing about my character Zavél is that in his whole life he was told that all other races are lesser, and that Sun-Elves don`t mix with anyone. Lifespan is long, but since he needs to find out if everyone is so bad he needed to live on longer. Also im on a quest to find out if every other life is lesser than Elves, why does the history books write of a human becoming the greatest god of them all ( mystra) and not an elf? Alignment CG. |

A friend of mine played a planetar or something that occaisonally reverted to his "true" self. I like that idea. Reminds me of Germaine in A Game of Universe. |
