How should I roleplay this character? [Archive] - Wizards Community

The story is as follows:
Me and another PC (both Wood Elves/Neutral Good) are brothers from a noble family. Our family, long ago, raided an orc village and took a family as slaves. This is where the problem arises; the half-orc and I (he's my personal bodyguard/companion for life) doesn't like me, and I don't like him. How should I roleplay hatred of my servant, and how should I manifest this? I'm thinking sending him into battle constantly at the front lines/risking his life would be a good course of action - something like
Rogue: No traps.
Monk/Fighter (brother): No traps.
Me: *sends Zherof [DM created name, not original] around the room*
LG Fighter: But...but...he could die!
Me: That's a risk I'm willing to take.
Can anyone else think of more ways?

That seems a decent enough way to handle it. If you wanted, you could talk to your DM about having your character's bodyguard try and off your character to (assuming you'd be willing for such a challenge). To me that would bolster up a pretty wrathful conflict that could span a good campaign. You might find your character would rather not have his bodyguard go to waste so early and quickly in the campaign due to "foolish" orders. Instead, your character might play the NPC's "expendable" status in a more dire situation.

You could go the other direction, too. Having your character and the NPC bodyguard develop an understanding for each other, which could be something to work towards.

Well, the way I'm working it is that me/my brother are polar opposites except for alignment/race. He's known and been his bodyguard's friend since childhood, I've always hated mine. He's the big strong combat guy, I'm the healbot...you can see how this is working. I really don't want to become him. Yeah, it might be fun having the bodyguard test food for poison, make the save, and say "No poison, master." I'll talk my DM into controlling him, if I can. Thanks for the advice!
