Every time I make a new character, it is just shoved aside while others take the field in more important part. My very first character was a Paladin, and as you can understand, I wouldn't have that big a part due to me being new, and being a back-up healer. Well next I tried being a Favored Soul, yet again another backup healer. We already had two healers, so I wasn't needed as much. When I was a Paladin, we had a main healer, a plainsman, three spellcasters, a psion, and a tank, so I wasn't the most imorptant. As the Favored Soul, we had two main healers (one was a tank.), the plainsman, a Super Tank, a spellcaster, and a bard. So as another back-up healer, I wasn't very big. So we moved on, and now it was my turn to have a big part. One of our main healers died as she fell into a volcano our other main healer jumped into the volcano (he is able to last through lava) and went back to his home. The bard went with him. Well as we got to a new city we had the Super Tank, a Plainsman, two spellcasters (one got turned into a crow), and a Back-up healer. Well the Super Tank, got him and me into trouble, and we got split from the others. We were brought to a new town, and he was sentanced to death. He made a new character as a spellcaster. After that the others caught up with me. Me and the plainsman both tried to join this guild in town. We both had to assainate a preist in order to join. The priest I tried to kill killed my Favored Soul, the plainsman person was shown mercy until her told who sent him. They torchered him. Well seeing as we no longer had a Tank on our team, I thought to myself "This is my chance to be a big part in our team" I became a Half-Elven Fighter/ Champ. of Corellon. My new character was already in a part of another guild in this town. My character and an Epic level druid, thats right epic level, were sent to free the plainsman, and we did ok, until all the clerics in the room summoned ghasts and wights. Geez, let me tell you not a pretty sight. One of the wights tore off the plainsmans back, then possessed his body. The plainsman, officailly dead. Well, after that the epic used a few spells, and killed all the bad guy, and I get 1000 more experince. Well guess what, my thougths of being a big part of the team, they didn't last long. The person who played the plainsman, he made a Super Tank. A Minotaur Fighter. God.... Well I thought to myself "What should I do? I have been shoved over into the corner again..."

Now that you have heard a lenghty brief summary of my DnD life story, what do you think I should do in order to make my character more important in our team? How can I try to get as needed as the Spellcasters, or the Super Tank?

I'm sorry, I tried to read it, but only got about 1/3 of the way through before I realized I wasn't processing it. It could be the time of night, but I think the format contributed. Do you think you could go back and edit it into paragraphs, or some other form of increased coherency?

P.S. I realize that this was a rather incoherent post for a post that complained about incoherency. Tis the hour, I swear :D

Hmmm, now that I am actually awake...

Well, first off, you would probably be more succesful posting this in the character optimization boards, but I'll try my best.

Okay, well, outside of making a powerful character: you could talk to your party. My first question is: are you all the same ECL? If the druid is epic level, and you are not, and you are travelling together, there is something wrong. Of course you would feel as if you were being shoved aside, anything that could challenge an epic character probably wouldn't bat an eye at a non-epic character.

If you are all equal level, then talk to them to see if they can help you make a more powerful character or let you in on more of the action, or if they can help you out in some other way.

And finally, ask for help on the character optimization boards, telling them what's in your party and what level's they are.

That's all I can think of for now.

Well there are a couple of things that come to mind.

First off, I don't read anywhere in there that your party has a Rogue (though maybe I just missed it). A DM who doesn't take advantage of a Rogue in a party just isn't trying. Heck when it comes to disarming traps and opening locked doors in a dungeon even the Paladin will hold your tools for you as you work.

Second, you don't have to be main tank or main healer, etc. to be a highly prized member of the party. An archer can be a huge benefit to a group. Kinda hard for your tanks to do anything to the flying opponent and the mages only have so many spells. Additioinally, look for something that works well with another class that a member of your party is playing. For instance, monks and rogues work really well together. The monk stuns and the rogue SA's.

Third, primary casters are always valuable, whether they are wizzies, sorcs or clerics. You can never go wrong with a caster unless there are just too many of them. Another possible route, if your DM will allow it is the Mystic Thuerge route which basically lets you be both a cleric and a mage.

Umm archery is pretty much outta the question because it would really take away from my character. Also I have pretty much have the two best combinations of classes that would work. Fighter/Champion of Corellon. It's the best I can use with the resources that we have. As for spellcasters thats pretty much outta the question

Caveat number one: I do not have access to the Champion of Corellon Prc, so I am not familiar with its abilities.

That being said, here are a couple more suggestions. (Caveat number two: I do not know how the typical session works in your group) Try to take advantage of all the different tactics and skills that are available. Things like trip and disarm in my experience are often ignored by players, but can be huge tide turners in a battle.

Two: Does your group roleplay? The impression I get from your post is that your group is largely a min/max group, but obviously I could be wrong. If you do roleplay quite a bit, consider being more forceful in the roleplaying. When the group roleplays, you are only shoved into a corner if you choose to be. Roleplaying is another area where you can really take advantage of your character's skills as well. Using sense motive, bluff, intimidate, and gather information can yield great results with the right emphasis on those skills. Obviously though this requires more of a roleplay oriented group. If your group is more of a "What do we get to stab next Mr. DM?" group, then it doesn't seem as though you will get much out of that.

Finally, talk to your group. Tell them that you feel like you are always getting pushed into the corner and overshadowed by the others. Let them know that you enjoy playing with them, but that you feel like they are preventing you from sharing any of the limelight. Make sure when you do this that you let them know that you do not want to be the lone star, but that you want to be more than just a special guest appearance. It could very well be that they do not even realize that this is happening because they are so wrapped up in the fun that they are having.

All in all, there are few builds that cannot be vital to their group so long as the character uses all of the tools available to it. Often times, a character seems to be pushed to the side simply because he/she is not using all of the tools available.

As for my first post, my apologies, I thought that you were looking for an entirely new character idea as opposed to simply going with the current character. Obviously that would make much of what I said irrellevant for the time being (though if you do end up creating a new character, then the post becomes more relevant).

At any rate, hope it helps and hope you can enjoy your sessions more.
