I was thinking about Psion warrior: Up the waLL feat Greetz Pixel |
| erbmjw10-21-05, 10:03 AM | You might get more help if you tell us what the console character can do? Some of us don't have the game ;) |
| nihility10-21-05, 01:09 PM | The only Prince of Persia I ever played was the original (http://www.classicgaming.com/reviews/princeofpersia/princeofpersia.htm). As I recall, the main character had the following properties: 1) Likes the Princess 2) Doesn't like being thrown in a dungeon to rot 3) Can run 4) Can jump 5) Can do chin-ups all day long 5) Can manipulate switches, levers, and the like 6) Can fight with a sword 7) Dies easily 8) Likes hats and pointy shoes I'd go with an elven fighter with high strength, poor constitution, ranks in the Jump and Climb skills, the Run feat, and a sword. He should have a hat and pointy shoes if possible. |
| Pixelating10-21-05, 02:51 PM | (im from the Netherlands so don't judge mij writing) But in the new game, the prince is a bad ass MoFO,, He is super acrobatic, Clime,Jump...Leap from wall to wall, Run over walls.an he can do most parts of the gymastic class!! (Kinda like the Spinter Cell character and Lara Croft) He is a 2 Scimitar/falcion/dagger like weapon wielder.. With Acrobatic Attacks Like: Jump on the target, flip over the target...and while he is the air hey makes an attack or 2. He also is a grapler..hey likes 2 throw his enemies around. I was thinking about Low Blow feat. from : Race of Fearun Is this helpful? |
| Pixelating10-21-05, 03:02 PM | One thing extra: Hey uses his surroundings to attack: Example: He runs to al wall...Jumps against the wall runs a little further.. Then hey leaps from the wall and attacks his target.. and offource lands on his pointy shoe feet! Or he uses a pilar and swings arround.. And while he is swinging the pilar he attacks :) |
| The Smartest Lemming10-21-05, 05:34 PM | I would make a Gnome giant killer (it's a prestige class in the Complete Warrior I believe), and take all the small character vs large enemy feats (also in the Complete Warrior) out there, they would give the prince of Persia feel in combat. Maybe you could also take leap attack (from the Complete Adventurer) as well for the ability to jump off of one opponent and smack another. I would suggest that you invest in jump and climb, as well as tumble if you've got it. There are also a lot of magical items/spells that allow a character the ability to run up walls, and/or run across water, for example there are the Sandals of Harmonious Balance (you'd need to invest in the balance skill as well for this one) in the Complete Adventurer. They aren't exactly pointy shoes, but I'm sure you could make them as pointy shoes instead of sandals. So if you don't mind your Prince of Persia being a Gnome instead of a Human, and you ran into a lot of large or larger creatures in your campaign to be able to fully utilize your fighting abilities, this would work out pretty well, well enough that I'm now thinking of making my own Gnome version of the prince, hehe. |
| nihility10-21-05, 08:53 PM | My spouse once wanted a mobility-based character who could balance on the tip of a needle, triangle-jump off of nearby walls, jump huge distances, and generally act like a character from "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon." This was all done without magic or psionics. If that's the type of thing you're after, I can post some details. |

This was all done without magic or psionics. That's pretty impressive (unless we're talking about an Epic or near-Epic character here). If that's the type of thing you're after, I can post some details. Please do; even if the original poster isn't interested, there are sure to be people who are (such as me :)). |
| nihility10-22-05, 01:32 PM | Building an Acrobatic Character Resources: Oriental Adventures contains rules for "extreme tumbling" that fall between the really crazy epic stuff and the stuff outlined in the PHB. This is very valuable if you want your character to be doing extremely cinematic moves. Alternately, you can work with your DM to come up with DCs for what you want to do, but OA remains a good resource for guildlines. Oriental Adventures also contains two Prestige Classes well-suited to this sort of acrobatic flighting style: the Ninja Spy and the Blade Dancer. Both gain large bonuses to mobility-related skills and the ability to always take 10 on such skills. Oriental Adventures was updated to 3.5 in Dragon Magazine (#318, I think), if that's important to you. Classes: For your base class, there really isn't much to be done except to get Jump, Climb, Balance, and Tumble as class skills. We were going for a kung-fu movie feel, so we used the Rokugan Ninja (this was the only ninja base class in print at the time), which you can find online as a free PDF (it was released under the OGL). However, there are really a lot of options here. From there, you need to look for a PrC that gives both a large bonus to your mobility skills and the ability to take 10 on those skills. You have a good number of options here. I recommend the Blade Dancer for a more martial character, while the Ninja Spy makes for a more skillful and sneaky character. The Ninja Spy can also walk on water, which is pretty hot. Check out Complete series for more (I'm pretty sure the Thief-Acrobat gets something like this). Races: Humans are fine for this. However, you might consider a Wood Elf for a bonus to strength and dexterity, or a Goliath for a nice boost to jump checks. Feats: The Run feat provides a boost to running jumps, while Leap Attack and Battle Jump make your acrobatics pay off with big damage. If you use psionics, Up the Walls and Speed of Thought are natural choices. Spring Attack ties in well with the overall feel. Our Character: "Katakuri" was a Rokugan Ninja 5/ Rogue 4/ Ninja Spy 8 (not in that order). The campaign ended there (we won, as it were), but the character would have probably finished off the Ninja Spy, then taken more rogue and ninja levels. By level 10, Katakuri could take a 10-foot step instead of a 5-foot step, stand from prone as a free action, run across tight ropes, jump off of tall buildings without taking damage, and generally bounce around like a fool. Climbing came in a bit slower, since the classes we used didn't boost it directly, but it was still pretty good. A few levels later, she started "climbing" by bouncing between walls. This was before magic items. If you wanted to invest some cash, or if your DM was handing out nice skill-boosting gear, you can do this sooner. Note that Slippers of Spider Climbing are pretty cheap. Other Help Check here for a different take on a jumping-based character. (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=5436939) |
| nihility10-22-05, 01:54 PM | Here are two simple setups that do what I think you want to do: 1) Non-psionic version Ranger 6/ Rogue 4/ Blade Dancer 10 Feats: Spring Attack chain, Two-Weapon Fighting chain (nice bonuses from ranger in that regard), Battle Jump (if possible), Power Attack and Leap Attack, plus whatever else you fancy. This needs a human or a race with favored class: ranger to work. 2) Psionic Version BlaineTog's Soulknife (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=310984) 10, Blade Dancer 10. Feats: Up the Walls, Speed of Thought, Spring Attack Chain, plus any of the above feats you fancy. Mental Leap seems tempting, but I'd rather not lose the psionic focus if possible. I was thinking that the Mind Blade could substitute for one of his weapons; I seem to recall from the commercials that his dagger was weird or something. Note that this version requires some leeway on the DM's part, since Blade Dancer wasn't designed to work with psionics. If it's a problem, just mix in a casting class of your choice, or go with the previous version supplimented with a psionic race to qualify for psionic feats. |
| nullex10-26-05, 06:55 PM | I would definitely recommend Thief Acrobat from Complete Adventurer. That and the Up the Walls feat from Expanded Psionics screams Prince of Persia to me. You wouldn't necessarily need to be a psionic class, just make sure you have a power point pool (by taking Wild Talent feat from XPH or being a psionic race - kalashtar from Eberron, or better yet, be a Xeph - that burst of speed sounds like a Prince-ish thing). And yes, he's a badass in the second game. :) |
| slimgoodbody10-27-05, 10:39 AM | I'll try to think up a more detailed build later (it's 6am and I randomly woke up for a bit), but I think your best bet may be the Ninja from Complete Adventurer followed by the Thief-Acrobat and perhaps Tempest PrC's, also from Complete Adventurer. It's been too long since I've seen Blade Dancer to know if it fits the Prince of Persia theme, but it very well may. Ninja works very well for this due to Great Leap, Acrobatics, and Speed Climb. The descriptions for these go like this: -Great Leap allows you to make Jump checks as if you were always running and had the Run feat, enabling you to make long jumps without a running start and granting a +4 bonus on the Jump check. -Acrobatics gives you a +2 bonus on Climb, Jump, and Tumble checks at 6th level. It increases to +4 at 12th level and +6 at 18th level. -Speed Climb is the real winner for Prince of Persia flavor. It allows you to climb at your speed as a move action with no penalty; however, you must begin and end the round on a horizontal surface (such as the ground or a rooftop). If you do not end your movement on a horizontal surface, you fall, taking falling damage as appropriate for your distance above the ground. The Thief-Acrobat's abilities synergize nicely with this, allowing for even more interesting movement abilities and mobile fighting a' la our favorite prince. At the moment, the build I'd go with (without remembering what's up with Blade Dancer) looks something like this: Human Psychic Rogue 2/Ninja 7/Thief-Acrobat 5/Tempest 5 1 Psychic Rogue: Sneak Attack +1d6, Trapfinding, 1 1st level power Feats-Dodge, Mobility 2 Psychic Rogue: Evasion, 2 1st level powers 3 Ninja: Ki power, Sudden Strike +1d6, Trapfinding Feats-Two-Weapon Fighting 4 Ninja: Ghost Step (invisible) 5 Ninja: Sudden Strike +2d6, Poison Use 6 Ninja: Great Leap Feats-Spring Attack 7 Ninja: Sudden Strike +3d6 8 Ninja: Acrobatics +2, Ki Dodge 9 Ninja: Sudden Strike +4d6, Speed Climb Feats-Improved Two-Weapon Fighting 10 Thief-Acrobat: Fast Acrobatics, Kip Up, Steady Stance 11 Thief-Acrobat: Agile Fighting, +1/+2, Slow Fall 20 ft. 12 Thief-Acrobat: Acrobatic Charge, Defensive Roll 1/day Bonus Feat 13 Thief-Acrobat: Agile Fighting +2/+3, Skill Mastery, Slow Fall 30 ft. 14 Thief-Acrobat: Defensive Roll 2/day, Improved Evasion 15 Tempest: Tempest Defense +1 Bonus Feat 16 Tempest: Ambidexterity (-3/-1) 17 Tempest: Tempest Defense +2, Two-Weapon Vesratility 18 Tempest: Ambidexterity (-2/+0) Bonus Feat 19 Tempest: Tempest Defense +3, Two-Weapon Spring Attack There. That leaves you with several feats open, as well as a class level. You can drop the last level of Thief-Acrobat if you don't care too much about Improved Evasion, cause that's really all the level's netting you. Then you'll have 2 levels to play around with, which you may want to use to jump into something to give you a few more neat psychic abilities. For your level one powers, I'd recommend Burst, Catfall, Defensive Precognition, or Offensive Precognition. If you ever get to level 3 powers, take Hustle. I'm certain there are better ways to do this, but like I said, I'm really groggy. And I guess I didn't really make this a quick write-up. :( Oh well. My advice would be to take this basic skeleton of a build over to the guys in Character Optimization, tell them your request, and have them overhaul this til it's worthy of the Prince. Hope this was helpful. I'm going back to bed. :) |
| nihility10-27-05, 11:04 AM | Blade Dancer eventually grants a +30 competence bonus to Balance, Jump, and Tumble checks. It also grants monk-like speed boosts. These may have been lowered in the 3.5 update, but I doubt they were lowered much since those abilities make up the bulk of the class abilities. I'm not impressed with the Complete Adventurer Ninja for this task. Up the Walls does the job of Speed Climb, but it's a feat. The Ninja's skill bonuses are also easily matched or beaten with feats. Great Leap is the only real winner in my opinion. Regarding Tempest, I have no idea if the prince hits people with both weapons at once; if he does and you want to retain that, then 5 levels of Tempest is the only option. Edit: in a non-psionic game, the CV Ninja is your only low-level option for fast climbing, so that's something to keep in mind. |
| Pixelating10-31-05, 07:32 AM | (sorry for the late reaction)BUT Thanx alot for all the help!! boy's and girls... last thing to do is.. SMILE AND WAVE,,,SMILE AND WAVE.. XXX |
| BadAsSVampire10-31-05, 04:34 PM | actually suprisingly my d&d character is actually based on prince of persia. I had 2 large battle knives (made it up but same stats and damage as scimitar) and i had like all the 2 weapon fighting feats, and had a little talk with the dm so he let me have only a -1 penalty on both hands and my armor class was made up not by armor like a fighter (even though i am a lvl.10 fighter) but like armor like a monk, so it was made up from my wisdom which turned out to be great. :D |
