How to get other PC's to actually play? [Archive] - Wizards Community

When I first started playing RPG games with my friends, it was great. Everyone actually role played their characters and paid attention to what was going on.

Now, it seems no one hardly pays attention to whats happening and they always wander off on some stupid tangeant about meaningless stuff. It doesn't help either that the DM is right along with the rest of them. This really causes the game that is being so called played very boring for me. This also causes me to lose interest in the character I am playing and I could really care less.

I would really like to play like we did in the past cause it was really fun. I think that the main cause is that the DM doesn't enforce anything to be paid attention too. I notice when I run adventures the players pay more attention because if I catch someone not focusing on the game I tend to punish them.

I guess there isn't much I can do, if I bring it up to everyone they say that it's just a game and not to take it too seriously, but thats all good and well but whats the point if it's no longer fun for me. It's like playing a sport and not caring about the outcome, why play? Or playing cards for fun and cheating the whole time...what's the point?

Oh well, if anyone has any suggestions I'm all ears or should I say eyes?

Thanks

you could talk to the dm and tell her that you are not enjoying the sessions as much as you used to if that doesnt help

perhaps its time for you to run a campaign at least there you as the dm can enforce the rules

I do help run, but I prefer to play. Oh well, perhaps a lost cause. I have already mentioned the situation to everyone, don't think they cared too much. Thanks for the input though.

Why don't you make your character evil? Start killing them or plotting against them. They will pay attention real quick

I've actually done that before, but they get upset and whine about it and don't play for awhile. Lost cause I guess. Guess it isn't up to me but the individual person to decide if they want to be serious about the game.

It's ok to want to talk occasionally while you aren't playing but they take 10 minutes while they are suppose to playing to talk about retarded stuff they have talked about a million times before. Chalk it up to A.D.D. even though the GM says he doesn't believe in such a thing...lol

Maybe it will get better, they aren't like that all the time. Just put up with it I suppose.

Thanks for the help though guys (and possible gals).

Hmmm...have you just tried making your self powerful and getting a kingdom and all that?
Give the group the finger, and make yourself a god on earth (or wherever gods reign). When they are still level...8 and your reaching 17 or so, they'll perk up

This is actually a very simple situation. The game has gone stagnant. It's time for a change. The more dramatic, the better.

New DM for starters. Whenever I start feeling like things are going stale, I get someone else to DM for a couple of weeks or months. Lately it's been my 17 year old daughter.

New characters all around (kind of goes with the whole new DM thing)

New game world, new place, new faces new magic new as many things as you can come up with.

Whole new game. Try something different, if being elves and halflings and dwarves and such is getting stale, try being aliens and spies or something else alltogether.

The point is, CHANGE IS GOOD!

Well, we haven't played D&D in years and this is the very start of a new campaign. We also play Star Wars RPG & Heroes Unlimited. I think they have gone stale on everything. I dunno.

Try World of Darkness games. Even if the World of Darkness was destroyed, you can still play. Plus, you get to be werewolfs and vampires and such. Not to keep the attention away from d&d, but you can only play the same game for so long before going insane or doing what your friends have been doing.

Yessss, World of Darkness. Now that is a good game, and if you don't pay attention your dead. Quick
