How to play a realistic Glutton... [Archive] - Wizards Community

03-01-07, 04:27 PM I had a magnificent character idea yesterday... a KIND (you heard me) female Minotaur Thaumaturge of Behemoth (and yes, that does mean she worships a demon lord, strange hmm?).

Now, save for a few surface thoughts, however, I just cannot seem to find realistic behaviour for her, being as far removed from a Glutton as possible myself... Thus, I kindly request some help...

And if there's anything Mechanics-related (a feat that grants Swallow Whole or something similar?) that puts the gluttony further in the spotlight, I'd be most thankful.

03-01-07, 05:21 PM Oooh, damn. I had a Dragon magazine that had a whole section on Gluttony, along with each of the other seven deadly sins. I'll see if I can find it...

03-02-07, 12:48 AM The important thing to remember about gluttons is that they are not all food-crazed maniacs. A glutton will not necessarily eat whatever isn't held down, nor will a glutton purposely go out of his or her way to get food. Eating is not always the only thing (or even the first thing) on the mind of a glutton.

A glutton could be someone who eats as a hobby, or eats out of boredom.
A glutton could be someone who has a high metabolism and *needs* to eat.
A glutton could be someone who hates to see food go to waste, and thus eats anything that would otherwise be destroyed.
A glutton could be one who just has more food at a meal than would be considered normal.

As far as game mechanics go, I'd say the most obvious one would be the Obese feat from the Book of Vile Darkness. Its prerequisite is Willing Deformity; it grants a bonus to constitution at the expense of dexterity and supplies a bonus to fortitude saves against poisons.

Also, I looked it up on a Christian site, and I found that it's not just excessive eating (nor is it, apparantly, completely food-related).

Some additional questions: How would Inns react? How would an average party react? What if she gained Swallow Whole?
