i don't know wether i put this thread in the right spot but i started it beacuse i think that must people don't play evil very well (not to offend anyone this is just within my group...i'm sure some of you are very very good at playing evil) in my opinion i think of evil as the way that drow are evil...i see alot of people play evil like...ok theres a begger on the streets and i'm evil so lets kill him just cause my alignment says evil...i think these people are much better of playing nuetral or good and avoiding evil
When i think of playing evil it is not the sencless voilance that seems to decend on evil parties...(this might be beacuse my alignment of choice is caotic evil) i think that if somone is to commit a murder or some outragiously evil act that there sould be somthing in it for them...it seems to me that being evil for evils sake is to much a waste of reasurses and pointless...so sould be left more demons...I envision drow as the ultimate evil beacuse you can never ever trust one and the have no morals at all...the best thing about them is that they are able to form alliances and working together...but as soon as there is somthing in it for them then they betray...this seems much more like evil then just killing
as a matter of fact my favorite charecter to play is a caotic evil drow wizard in a good party...i find that it is much more fun to pretend to be good and concince the party to say make me the treasure holder...or turn on the party when they have just killed a large and wealthy dragon and they are exuasted while my mind is filled with many cruel and evil spells...this is much more fun then pointless slaughter...(however to brings a bag rep down on our head)

Evil's a whole different thing than sadistic stupidity. A TRULY evil person would give the beggar a sack of gold and your third-best crossbow and shoot X dead (X being someone you don't like) at a given time, when you know you'll be nearby.

If he succeeds, someone you don't like is dead and you've got a personal assasin.

If he fails, you help X chase him down and kill him, reclaim your "stolen" crossbow and what's left of the gold, and offer and alliance to X against your "unknown common enemy." Then offer the gold (which you'd already written off as a buisness expense, don't forget) as a show of freindship.

I hate how alot of people think that you should play chaotic evil, as some kind of blood crazed animal who kills everything he sees. This is not a realistic person. No alignment should be a form of insanity.

Here's how I see someone of a chaotic evil alignment . . .

Like everyone else, the CE guy has wants and needs. He fears death, he enjoys pleasure, he likes to spend time with his friends, he has a favorite food and personality quirks. The difference between this CE guy and a LG guy, is that for the CE individual, they have no moral limitation on what they will do to get what they want. If a LG person wants something, he must take into consideration the wellfare of others and waht ever lawful codes he follows before he can take an action to acheive his goal. The CE guy doesn't have any moral code and doesn't care who gets hurt. A if a CE person sees a lost child all alone, he probably wont kill the child - there's really not reason to. In fact, the CE person could rescue the child if its not inconvenient - either for accolades, a whim, or even a sense of well being (some form of altuism) that it could provide. On the other hand, if the CE guy wanted to (for some reason) he may also kill the child as well. Not all CE people have the same wants or needs or desires. They may never break the law or harm anybody else and still be CE - they simply will break the law or harm others if it serves their purposes.

CE people don't see CE as a cause. They do not seek out paladins to kill them. They do not ally themselves with CE people or try to spread CE. CE would rather be friends with a paladn than an enemy, its just that paladns tend to get in the way of the CE guy acheiving his goals. If you have one chaotic evil serial killer living across the street from a chaotic evil theif, chances are that either one would call the police on the other if they discovered the other's crimes. The theif would say "I don't want that murderer raping and murdering my wife" and the serial killer would say "I don't want that theif to pick my pocket or craw in my window to take my stuff." Either of those individuals would rather be surrounded be good or neutral people, people who are helpful, kind, or at least mind their own business and don't pose a threat.

Chaotic evil people are motived completely by their own welfare. If they have to help the need at the letter of the law to get what they want thenm they will. If they have to drown babies and cause anarchy to get what they want, they will.

Chaotic evil people do not fear death or pain any less than anybody else. If they fear punishment enough, they will avoid the crime. If some action significantly endangers their lives, they wont do it. Its neither a good nor lawful characteristic to avoid killing people right in front of the town guard. Its a sanity issue, most CE people are sane.

In an evil party, someone killing a beggar because he's evil would eventually lose respect from his fellows, seeing this as a stupid act.

Killing a beggar because he's a witness, because you need fresh human flesh for your necromancy experiment or because he insulted you is the beginning of a right reason. A follower of Loviatar would torture the beggar before killing him, a follower of Velsharoon would turn him into a zombi, even a CE follower of Malar would hunt him down instead of "just" killing him.

I have a question/idea.

Is it possible to have a split personality disorder? Like, flip a coin/roll a die to see if you are Chaotic Good/Chaotic Evil at the moment? You would have to be really good at playing either so as to avoid "you see a baby (flip coin-good) kiss the baby/(flip coin-evil) kick the baby."

It would make for a very interesting character, but also a lot of work. (I think of Launch from Dragon Ball, whenever she sneezed her hair changed from black to blonde/good to evil. But she never really was "evil," just mean.)

But as far as being generally evil, could there be a character that was more or less "I may be evil, but it's not like I'm bad."

Just wondering.
