Alright...I've got a character in the works that has an interesting background, and I was hoping that some of the more experienced players on the boards could give me a bit of a hand with him.

The game is an Eberron campaign. During the Last War, Alestair was a lowly member of the Friars of the Silver Flame. Due to his exceptional skills (budding cleric), he was sent to the Demon Wastes to proselytyze to the Ghaash'kala to show them the "True Faith", after a fashion. However, after a time, he came to feel more in common with their faith than his own. He joined them in their hunts, and came to appreciate their culture.

However, one day, he became seperated from the hunting party he joined, and was captured. There was a more intelligent demon in the group, and the demon recognized Alestair as a follower of the Silver Flame. He was brought into the uppermost reaches of Khyber, and was tortured. The skin was flayed from his body, and he managed to heal himself a bit every day. But the scar tissue covers him from the hollow of his neck to his waist and both wrists.

A small shard of Khyber Dragonshard was jabbed into his chest by his heart, and became inextricably surrounded by bone and scar tissue, thanks to his healing regimen.

Eventually, something inside him snapped. Alastair developed the abilities of a warlock from the dragonshard's influence, and escaped. He was found and nursed back to health by the tribe he had stayed with, and eventually met with a group of adventurers going into the wastes. Their account of events led him to believe that the war was over and that the church was in dire straights.

Realising that he had shirked his duty, he returned back to Flamekeep, where his case was reviewed, and he was demoted to a pilgrim and became an adventurer.

---

Now, I'd like to thank anyone who read all that, and ask my question:

How, exactly, should Alestair behave? He's a follower of a cosmic force of Law and Good, but has a demonic force dwelling inside of him.

Due to his scars, I'm going to have him dislike being touched. Due to his time with the Ghaash'kala, he is CG, having an approach to life that is less disciplined than his fellows, but not lacking in zeal.

I think the standard demonic whispers should do nicely here.

Alastair should probably act, say 80% of the time like a decent human being. However, there should be times where he acts with savegery and borderline evilness.

When it happens, he would probably blame it on the demonic force inside him, obviously . However, a question should naw at him. What if it isn't some sort of urge planted by the shard? What if it actually just awakened something inside him that was there all along?

This is similar to a background I had planned for a warlock. This warlock allowed a demon to inhabit him in exchange for the power to help others. However, as he propgressed, his actions became darker and darker. Eventually he accusses the demon of warping his mind and soul.

To this, the demon replies.

"Warping? I merely worked with what was there already..."
