I'm think Pun-Pun would be a kobold with a backstory like "I desire power. Nothing more, nothing less." :evillaugh:

i personally think pun pun would be the shy reclusive type... who if you kick him... you WILL die...but other than an extreme immortal bad*****, he would be a cool guy to hang out with once you get to know him.

i dont think he would hold his power above others just to intimidate, but wouldn't be opposed to snapping someone's leg at the femur for making fun of him, but only if used to purposely offend pun pun. and, pun pun would talk in the third person, just cause he's a bad***** and no one is gonna stop him.

Bandit: Give us all your money!
Pun-Pun: Pun-Pun wants you to die.

Pun-Pun: Don't mess with Pun-Pun

I think he'd be quite a bit like Bruce Banner, quiet and shy and not very reactive, then when he's excessively provoked: "You're making me angry. You wouldn't like me when I'm angry." And then all hell breaks loose. :D

He's the DM and you can't have a backstory for the DM.

Like I said in the original Pun Pun thread...

He really is... The Lady of Pain in Sigil!

How else can you explain the mysterious power the Lady has?

As to how Pun Pun got role played into that state... um... well, I don't really understand Kobold physiology.

All right, let me rephrase my question, What would be a good background for Pun-Pun?

This is really silly. Pun-Pun is an insanely abusive interpretation of the rules, not a character. That said, here's some silly stuff to go with it:

Pun-Pun was a veteran of the Last War, serving in the Kaarnathi armies as a conscript. Physically, he survived the horrendous violence of the Last War without more than minor wounds. Mentally, though, he was horrendously shaken by the senseless and cruel violence of the battlefields of Cyre and Aundair. He had slain two other kobolds, conscripts like himself, forced to fight for other sides, and seen entire cities razed. He had seen his companions fall at his side, only to be raised to fight again by Kaarnathi necromancers. At first, he sought the advice of the Kobold sorcerors of his tribe. They wielded arcane power, but they had no answers to his questions of the cause of all the pain and misery in the world.

He looked to the religions. He asked the Priests of the Silver Flame, but their only solution to the violence and horror of the world seemed to be more horror and violence. He looked to the Sovereign Host, but the priests he encountered seemed more interested in lining their pockets than in relieving the world of its pain. He even sought out the Cults of the Dragon Below, and found nothing but more pain. He briefly became interested in the Blood of Vol, but found that they only wanted to extend the pain of life over an eternity.

Pun-Pun was on the verge of taking his own life with poison, when a beautiful woman -- and Pun-Pun could tell that she was beautiful even though she appeared to be human, and had a physiology fundamentally unappealing to him -- walked up to him, and told him, "it is your choice whether you live or not, but first you must know this: there are answers to the questions you ask. If you live, you may find them some day."

Intrigued, Pun-Pun put down the poison, and asked, "Do you have the answers that I seek?"

"No," she said, "you do. We all have our own answers, but the truth is buried within us."

Finding that Pun-Pun was at this point homeless and addicted to alcohol, the woman, Thakashana, persuaded him to come back to her home. It was an apartment complex. Pun-Pun learned that neither she nor any of her fellows were truly human, but were Kalashtar.

He stayed for a time with the Kalashtar, and learned the art of psionics, which came more naturally to him than the sorcery more common to his people. He also studied Il-Yannah, the path of light. He meditated, and found a degree of peace in the explainations of the Kalashtar for the suffering and horror in the world, but one day, after several months staying with them, Thakashana told him once again: "We do not have the answers for you. I hope that you have found some peace and happiness here, but if you seek the truth, it must come from you, not us."

The kobold's heart sank. He had wanted to sweep the problems that had lead him there under the rug, to forget that the Last War had every happened, and to idle away his days, but he knew that he must not do so. He must find the truth about suffering.

He went off and sat under a fig tree. After meditating without food or drink for weeks, he arrived at four noble truths.
1. All living things suffer.
2. The cause of suffering is desires that cannot be fulfilled in this world because of the limited means available to the people in it.
3. Overcoming suffering thus requires overcoming the limited means that prevent fulfillment of desire.
4. The key to overcoming suffering is to become really, really powerful, so you can have anything you want.

Supporting himself by psychometabolically healing those in need, Pun-Pun went to Korranberg, seeking out the library. There he studied all of the ways to gain power. He came upon various disciplines that would give him the power to overcome suffering. In the end, he incorporated bits of various disciplines, such as psionics, and the mastery of many forms, into his own path. He figured out how to apply various shapeshifting powers to his psicrystal.

He set out to master his new path, meditating, practicing his psionic and magical arts, healing those in pain.

Eventually, he gained the power he sought. He made himself powerful without limits. With this power, he knew that he would be able to heal Khyber of its cancerous pain and sickness, to end hunger, even to stop death itself. He would reshape the world to be a paradise, where no desire would go unfulfilled, and no one would suffer.

Frylord, you're not planning to try and sneak Pun-Pun past your DM into a game via a background that makes the ridiculous setup combination look natural, are you? :smirk:

The sort power level achieved here is nigh on infinite but I feel that in becoming so powerful Pun pun would see that to allow any creature, himself included, to achieve this sort of power would threaten the very reality we all know and love. With wisdom and intelligence far in excess of anything we thought possible I feel Pun pun would come to the realisation that this should not be allowed to happen again. He would ensure that no one can or will follow in his foot steps whilst withdrawing from the planes of existance as we know it and settling in to watch the lesser beings struggle through thier short lives.

For anything to be fun it needs to be a challenge, Pun pun no longer has any challenges so what else would he do?

I had one of my players try and sneak in the pun pun build (hidden behind the name snook... what kinda disguise is that???) He was using the origional 12 lvl pun pun build.

Anyway, the second he reached 12th level and started pulling the infinite loop trick i had the real pun pun appear next to him a erase him and his entire family line (past and present) aswell as all memory of him, from existance.

The player got kinda annoyed with me, i rebutted with saying that "you were aiming to derail my game... i just derailed your character before you could"

Kinda unfair.. but i wasnt going to let him ruin my game... and it stands to reason that if one kobold can do it, then one has done it before.

Anyway... just thought id throw that out there as a warning to all you power gamers :P

You could have used it against them instead, for example:

I have a munchkin player using an Elf Monk (He's like x3 stronger than the rest of the party), so I had him assassinated Oswald-style by the best sniper in the campaign world. But that's not the end of it, he's later going to be resurrected and further beefed up by a friend of the party, who is really horribly evil, to be used to run his illegal War Forge and act as a general for his evil army which he intends to use to enslave the village the PCs are in. So, not only did he die unfairly, now he has to face his own creation,

With compound interest...

But anyways, back to Pun-Pun :P

You know what I think? Pun-Pun doesn't even realize his power. I think he was manipulated by a big dark god or some such thing, but got out of hand. The god could no longer control him, and so he was left to grow infinitely stronger. Pun-Pun, though, never realized that he was the only being in existence with such power. He lives in a cave alone assuming that he's going to have his butt kicked by some 15th level sorceror or something if anyone ever finds him. After all, what bizarre twist of fate would make a kobold the most powerful thing ever? How could a kobold not get its butt kicked? What kind of kobold wouldn't fear pretty much everything? And why DO kids love cinammon toast crunch?

Eh, I don't think Pun-Pun can work in a Roleplaying situation, unless the GM is dumb or insane - its a great hypothetical build, but it requires isolation and would fall apart in a world where there are other elements than just abilities in place.

Points where Pun-Pun would clearly fall to a GM

1. The moment he plans to begin his first raise in ability scores, the GM requires a knowledge check, noting that every ability of the Sarruhk must be understood before manipulate form. (reasonable interp)
2. If the player makes the check, the diety that provided the Divine Minion appears, and strips Pun-Pun of the template - meaning that he no longer qualifies for the Master of Many Forms, meaning that he can't use the PRC's abilities, meaning he can't become a Sarruhk. Afterall, the deity providing the abilities isn't going to let one of his servants get uppity.
3. If the player still manages to become a Sarruhk by other means, the GM is likewise still able to port in someone that notes the danger and kills the lizard before he begins his infinity trick.
4. If the GM allows the ability because he doesn't expect the player to abuse it, then the player tries the ice assassin trick without materials, from what I read in a bookstore of the ice assassin spell and the SRD, the diety copied would intervene (since the assassin spell creates a clone intent on destroying the diety, and the second deity would spark the portfolio sense - it becomes rather clear that this isn't going to happen). Afterall, Khan hasn't answered the "wouldn't the gods" section of the FAQ - and there is one element that makes that an impossible question to answer. They are NPC's under the control of GM.
