| Crake09-17-07, 05:54 PM | For my newest character I'm considering making him a deadpan snarker*. The character who is cynical, sarcastic and always points out the flaws in other's plans(regardless of if the planner is an ally or an enemy). My one problem is picking attributes. Should I favor wisdom, because the character's intuitiveness, and ability to figure out when things are just silly, or should I favor intelligence because the character has the ability to think a course of action through and come up with a better solution? * See here for a deffinition and some examples. http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main.DeadpanSnarker |

As for charisma, i wouldnt make it low, the character is a jeck because they choose to be, they can be charismatic and charming when they want to be. What race/class combo are you gonna go with? Ps: awsome link, alot of good info :P Peace |

Ps: awsome link, alot of good info :P Peace Well, I only have two character ideas floating around right now. The first is a human psi warrior who is the bastion of common sense, yet also the character who points out all the odd quirks in the world. "Instead of staging an elaborate diversion with conjured monsters and a rockslide, wouldn't it be easier to wait for the dragon to go out hunting?" "wait... how the hell does that dragon even fit through the cave entrance?" Or Yathin, an elf paladin/fighter/Champion of Corrleon. His holy oath means requires him to crusade against evil. While others may be content to simply scan and smite their foes, Yathin likes to point out how silly doing evil sometimes is. After all, annoying an opponent is much better than killing them. In typical elven aloofness, nothing, even the imminent threat of death seems to faze him. Barbarian to Yathin: "I'll slaughter you! I'll slaughter every last damn one of you!!" Yathin: "Now you're just being silly." Yathin to a would be mugger: "You know, you're going about this all wrong. Yelling loudly for money just tends to draw attention to yourself. Also, that green shirt will make it easier for people to notice you. Finally, you are holding that sword all wrong." |

A "deadpan snarker" would not have an overly high wisdom. Wisdom is what tells you to not "poke a bear with a short stick" which metaphorically speaking is the deadpan snarkers bread and butter. He needs the wit and charm to pull off his biting whiticisms and such and the facts to back it up. And a high enough Dex to get out of the way when he pokes the wrong bear. Be ware that though this character is popular in shows, anime and sitcom up to buddy movies, he will gain few friends in an adventuring party. I personally tend to kill deadpan snarkers as quickly as possible. If all you do is point out what everyone is doing wrong you are not helping. I am not calling into question your RP'ing ability just know that after nigh on 20 years of role playing I have yet to see a deadpan snarker become a lovable scamp, and have seen many turned into snakabobs. Have the Charisma to pull off your Jokes, The Intelligence to back up your Jibes, enough Dex to Duck and just enough Wisdom to know when shutting up will save your life. This attitude and set of stats begs for the Beguiler / or Warlock classes. The Beguiler will have an easier time of it, and the Warlock has thr fall back of "the devil made me do it" Have fun, be careful and enjoy, Dax |
