The human fighter. Share your human fighter's fate with us! My favorites: Faye: Fighter10/Weapons Master 8 Faye came to the table with (yeah, you can groan) no memories of her past. As she knew it, all her life she was in debt to strange hooded wizards who spied on her every move and came to collect whenever she had money or items to spare. She still had about two million gold pieces to go before she repaid them for the resurection they provided. (Anime fans might have a bell ringing in their heads if they know of a certain "cowboy") Eventually it was discovered that her collectors were Banites. Then the question came up: souls only return to the call of a priest they trust; why did her soul return for Banities? In actuality, she had been the daughter of a priest and priestess of Bane. When Bane manifested and destroyed his temple in disgust, her parents were killed. Lost in the chaos, young Faye grew angry with the god who had promised power to her and her family, but had destroyed them. None of those she knew before would acknowledge her as more than a street rat. She joined and became a very charismatic leader of a small revolt against the temple. Though not without spirit, the small force lacked the power of Bane's favored and the rebels were slaughtered, including Faye. Yet the tyranny of Bane does not stop with death; her cousin, an old playmate of hers, resurected her and helped in the rituals to deny her mind access to her own memories. The wizards and clerics put the price of three million gold for the damnage and trouble she had caused, and scryed on her to be sure she always worked toward repaying for her crimes. Long story short, she regained her memory when killed during an adventure. With intimate knowledge of the Banites, she and her assembled friends were able to destroy her tormentors and reclaim some of the gold and items she had been forced to "donate". |
| Tzalice Minoladir07-23-03, 09:00 PM | I had a ftr, level one really. Human ftr with power attack, track, and some other feat. I forget. She was really more a ranger. One of the few remaining of a scattered barbarian tribe. They had lived on mountain cliffs and naturally come into contact with dwarves and giants, both after the land. Her ex-lover had been a druid who was slaughtered in the battle that more or less vanquished her tribe. The druid was female, yeah the character was a lesbian, more amazonian, but that never really was a big part of her character, more one of her past. She had this wonderful ornate banded leather armour with gems on it and similar barding for her horse. she also carried the druid's spear and a waraxe with her, remnants of her past life and had craft (gemcutting). She was great, but it took me like a week to decide what class I wanted for her. She ended up killed by a swarm of zombies when the rest of the party (including the PALADIN) failed their fear saves and ran off leaving her in the dark. Oh well. I'll play her again one day, I liked her. |
| TheMightyMcClaw07-24-03, 03:49 PM | Ah yes... The Human Fighter. Chaz Delicon: You know those guys they dress up in padded armor with halfspears and small shields, only to be mowed down by ranks of Cavalry? Chaz used to be one of those guys. A farmboy with no destiny in mind, Chaz was sent off when a local lord came asking for young men. Among the few to survive against odds, Chaz found combat as good a life as he's likely to find. He's since eschewed the padded armor for better digs, but he still prefers the versatility of the halfspear. He now wanders the land on his lazy camel, Abraham, doing private mercenary work when he can and chopping wood when he can't. Originally, this character was just an excuse to use a halfspear and show the world it's power. You can throw them, use them in melee, set them against charges.... you can even use them for the Duelist's "precise stirke" ability.... |
| Iry07-25-03, 01:11 PM | Not a human fighter, unfortunately, but the very first fighter I ever played. He was a dwarf, and his character sheet was handed to me with stats of 18, 10, 18, 10 10 8, as each of us were. Paragons in our little area and perfectly normal in all the others. His name was Danrick, son of Danrick who was the son of Danrick. And, indeed, later dwarven characters I might make happened to often have the name Danrick purely for comedic sake! Danrick died a valiant death, at the lead of a squad of mercenaries defending a large city from an oncomming horde of orcs, goblins, worg riders and a few giants back in 1987. Mind you, Valiant in the sense that he was impaled on a Worg Riders lance (Critical Hit), dragged halfway through the battle, before the Rider let go of the lance, which left me hanging until I was noticed by a giant. The big fellow proceeded to Tee him up and home ran smacked me (Critical Hit) far and back behind friendly lines. I didn't die to the two critical hits, nor all the battle wounds from the onslaught itself. No, it was the landing on the cleric that killed me :) His grandson, many years later in 93, died a far more ignoble death, running into a house to get away from some city guards, with a sword wound in his ribs, only to be smacked royally upside the head with a frying pan by the lady of the house (Yep! A critical hit!) which sent me toppling out the third story window, to my death from the fall. Future Danricks were often farmers. :) |
| lion9307-25-03, 04:19 PM | I love that half-spear too! Kerrick the Tolmanian has been one of my favorite characters ever. Human Fighter... Roman style... Breastplate and Tower shield. Sword. But whenever those kobolds toss spears, instead of disdaining them, he keeps them around to throw back. Half-spears have been really worthwhile! He's recently taken on some sorceror levels in the interest of becoming "The Dragon of Tolman" somday. Of course, the character himself wants to retire and run a bathhouse, like they did in 'the old empire.' |
| Godeskian07-26-03, 10:10 AM | Ah yes, my human fighter, a musketeer type, who is now the ruler of the city of Mirros, first Knight of the empire, military governor of the emperor and commander of his own private army he wielded a rapier for his entire adventuring life, and had the most outrageous luck of surviving fights with 1 or two hit points and nothing else. |
| Lhiannon Sidhe07-28-03, 02:03 AM | Kieran BloodWolf This poor boy had the misfortune of being the heir to the cheiftanship of his clan. Yes you heard correctly, misfortune. You see, when Kieran was five, along came the big bad rival clan and hacked his daddy into itty bitty pieces. This left Kieran, as the only male child of the Khan, in charge, at 5, Kieran certainly was no warrior and would be cut down so that the rival clan could extend rights of conquest over Kieran's clan. So Kieran's mother, along with the friendly neighborhood clan shaman turned him, magically into *gasp* a girl. Kieran's mom then took "her" to an allied clan to learn how to fight. Years pass, Kieran grows up - experiancing puberty as a female, and so now identifies as a woman, and she becomes a level 1 fighter, with Mounted Combat, Weapon Focus: Shortbow and Mounted Archery. Kieran, along with her best friend (also a human fighter) and some freaks they met along the way -including a legally retarded Gnome cleric/inventor named Fonkbow and a Pyromaniacal teenager- is now seeking to 1) Go and kill the bastard that's ruling her clan in her places 2a) Find a wizard (low magic setting) to restore her masculinity, so that she can assume leadership of the clan, after killing the above mentioned bastard 2b) Find herself a husband (She identifies as a woman now, remember) so that he can rule as Khan after she kills said bastard. |
| Dacendaran07-28-03, 08:02 AM | if she identifys as a woman, why does she want to change back if she will just rule through her husband?? |
| Lhiannon Sidhe07-28-03, 08:29 PM | social pressure of being expected to rule himself. It's all explained in the full, 8-page background I wrote. If I feel unlazy in the near future, I'll type up the entire thing and post it. |
| Mab_Deno07-29-03, 03:17 AM | [Double Post] |
| Mab_Deno07-29-03, 03:19 AM | From the DnD basic box set came "Sliced Bread" there has been nothing better than him since ;) Ive been trying to ressurect him as a 40th level fighter type according to the new rules but havent been happy with the build yet. |
| ThorvaldHafgrimsson07-30-03, 02:42 AM | Most of my characters have been Male Human FIghters. SOme of my friends even make jokes about it. My first 3.0 Character was a MHF, NIckolai Ivanovich, who was a Blacksmith and member of the militia in a small Village outside of Willip (Greyhawk settting) along with the other members who became the aventuring party, I started having strange dreams of a little girl (age 8) begging me to rescue her. We consulted with a rpeist who told us it was a message we should heed and so we set out for an evil Kingdom to rescue a magical little girl from slavers. Several memorable adventures later the DM moved, so Nickolai, now level eight is retired, but I still relish the memory of the first big fight when I proved wrong the guy who had said that Power Attack and Cleave were "Worthless" feats until high levels. We spotted the enemy in the afternoon adn our ranger trailed tehm till nightfall. We waited until they were mostly asleep, but wehn our thief was caught trying to sneak intotheir camp the fight was on. With Bless, Weapon Focus Greatsword and 17 Strength, Nick went through the unarmored baddies like a knife through butter, the cleave allowed him to down two guys a round. The Smart Guy who had told me Cleave was useless used his single magic missile to do 3 or so points ONCE, then cast mage armor on himself and sat at the sidelines plinking with his Light Crossbow - never hit anything- until someone ran up and smacked him putting his 4 HP wizzie on the ground. Still we routed them, and my bodie count was 15:eek: Oh yeah those were the days, have not found a good 3rd ed campaign since.:( |
| The Ultimate Dragongod07-31-03, 12:19 PM | Well, there is Marduk, but he also has 20 outsider HD :D |
| Veii07-31-03, 01:53 PM | Great thread, allow me to introduce you to: His Grace, Lord Orakio Veii He was a human fighter/rogue and also the estranged son of Sembian (FR) nobility. He sought revenge against his brother Rulakir over the murder of a woman (classic storylines are classics for a reason). Unfortunately for poor Orakio, his vengeance over came him and he never fullfilled his quest. He fought valiantly against a Curst fighter/blackguard called Randor Phane. The battle was climactic indeed with Randor having only 2hp left when Orakio finally fell. A classic doomed warrior who meets his end. |
| Veii07-31-03, 01:57 PM | Heck, might as well introduce you to my current human fighter: Valdemar Ranshai, Loyal Retainer of House Hawkynfleur An urban Ranger/human fighter from Raven's Bluff(FR) and the loyal bodyguard of a young noble, Imrin Hawkynfleur. When the Hawkynfleur estates are attacked, Valdemar flees with his young master and together they plot reinstate the noble family and find the person responsible for its downfall. My current character, I'll let you know how it turns out. Tell you this much, Bringing a level 1 aristocrat built on a 20 point buy is tough business. |
| HammerHeart8108-19-03, 04:52 PM | That's whay I like about the human fighter is the versitility, expecialy when it comes to multiclassing. One concept I like is starting off as a fighter and depending on the direction the campaign is going, I either multiclass as a cleric or Paladin depending on the direction of the campaign and the party outlook. |
| Trydan08-22-03, 02:16 AM | My first character ever was a level 1 fighter, 1st edition D&D rules. He rose to the staggering heights of level 3, and acquired the awesome Dragon Sword (+1 longsword, +2 vs Dragons). Good thing he never met a dragon! Since then I've had lots of fighter characters. My favourite is a 3rd edition D&D Fighter/Sorcerer. This chap starts off a mercenary, gets struck by lightning, and sort of loses it. Now he's mixing arcane magic and traditional fighting skills, specialising in electrical evocation. However, he's still not given up his old fighter ways, and still wears chainmail - even when casting. Arcane Spell Failure is always a treat (sic). (There's a long history for him - I'll post it if anyone's interested). |
| Kantor Brightblade08-24-03, 04:52 PM | "As luck would have it, you shall hear of my story." Kantor Brightblade: Human Fighter The second son of High Lord General Lyon Brightblade. Kantor, being the second child was very jealous of his elder brother Kyanus. Taking full advantage of his fathers station, Kyanus floated threw the academy, and eventually took a small command along the border to a friendly and neutral country. Kantor resented his brother and his coast through life. Deciding that in order to gain respect and honor he must give his life, in full, to the military. At age 12 he joined the academy, a full 2 years earlier than other boys were required. Aside from military training he took philosophy, art, ethics, and in his own right became a scholar at the tender age of 17. By the time he became a Private in the local town guard, Kantor had graduated 2nd in his class......to a girl. At 18 he was transferred to something along the lines of the National Guard. At 19 he became Sergent, 21, Lieutenant, and at 23(current age) he took the Captains position and gained command of a small sentry....closely akin to an Elite Task force. Among his subordinates was a 22 year old woman named Drusilia Meliasme...the girl who finished 1st in Kantors' graduating class. By this time she was a Lieutenant, and had grown into quite the hardend soldier....but Kantor was rather taken with her. One night, during off hours, a group gathered at the local pub and had drinks. Kantor's strict life did not include such acts, but even Capts. run into peer pressure.....especially from Female Peers..... Long story short....Kantor and Drusilia learned during routine medical check ups that she was with child. Keeping as much info to themselves as possible...the Lord High General still found out and basically under penalty of jail Kantor was forced to marry Dru to keep the rumors from spreading should Dru's child end up without a father. The child, a girl named Rhaine, was born in the Generals Private chambers with Kantors mother Genievere acting as nurse. Shortly thereafter Kantor was sent to a small remote villiage in the northeast of the country. A town had claims of a haunted outpost where people were being taken to. And that's Kantor's story up until now. |
