This is a first draft of this character, please PEACH. I am not happy with the last section about his parents, but I am also not sure what direction to take it.

Paladin Memoirs-

Age 10 - I've seen 10 summers and the priests have finally decided today is my birthday. They gave me a gift of this journal. They feel I should write down my thoughts. They feel I do not free the words of my heart enough. Hatu does not want me to keep emotions bottled up. They say he feels I should be more free and giving with my heart. What they do not understand is this, I am. I've had to grow up fast in this temple. Life in the desert does not allow orphan children to be children. I guess they are right though. Following a deity of freedom does not allow for closed and protected thinking. I will try to do better.

Age 11 - My training does not allow much room for personal time. Most days I collaspe in a heap on my sleeping mat, but today we are again at my designated birthday. Today I am allowed 4 hours of freedom. The last year

has been tough. I have been asked to do so many strange and meaningless tasks that I am not sure how it will affect my training. I feel the priests of Hatu, diety of Freedom, have found themselves a slave. I am tired now, I will sleep.

Age 12 - More of the same this year. I have found easier and faster ways to complete my tasks. For a child my age I am told I am very strong, many of the priests are speaking about me with the elders. I hear things that sound important. Paladin. Kensai. I am not sure what they mean, but I intend to find out. For now, I will sleep.

Age 13 - This year I have seen drastic changes. First, I am done with the meaningless tasks. I have finally shown the priests I understand the teachings of Hatu. I said no, I am not your slave anymore. I will no longer carry your water, wash your dishes, clean your rooms. After years of slavery, I wanted freedom. The priest I told this too did not strike me as I expected. She did not yell. She simply smiled and said, "Now you are ready to begin." Begin what, I thought, but I soon found out. I have lost many of the chores, but my training is even more rigorous. Hour upon hour of scripture and tennets of faith, followed buy hour upon hour of warrior training. I am excited. I am amazed. I am tired, now, I must sleep.

Age 14 - Paladin - A holy warrior who serves his faith without question. He enforces the beliefs of the church and defends those who cannot defend themselves. He is virtuous, willful, compasionate, steadfast and honorable. A Paladin does not fight with weapons when he can fight with words. Above all a paladin follows his heart in what is right, Hatu will give him guidance and strength. - I now know what a paladin is. I know what I am to become. I face dauntless challenges and untold hardships, but I have my faith and my sword (if I ever get it) to keep me company. The long days don't seem so hard any more. I still spend much of the day in classes learning about Hatu and on the practice field honing my skills, but now I also get to help the newcomers learn about freedom. My chores are now the resposibility of a young girl. I envy her and the lesson she will learn one day. Freedom is deserved by all, but appreciated by few. For now, I pray.

Age 15 - I hear my lessons here are coming to a close. Soon I will be sent out into the world to spread the words of freedom. I will be give a task to complete and then given my freedom. I have mixed feelings about this. I want nothing more than to break the bounds of this temple, but I have known nothing else and I have reservations about my skills in the outer world. This is my final year of teaching, hopefully the priests will prepare me. For now, I pray.

Age 16 - I am days away from heading out into the "civilized" world. I have learned much in the past year. I've been allowed to sit in on the dealings the head of our order has with outsiders. They are a conniving greedy bunch of wretched beings. I questioned my master long and hard about why we need to help these poisoned people, and I learned this: No matter what profane words come from the mouth, no matter what actions escape the body, no matter how cruel the intentions, they are still as human as we are. All of us deserve a chance at redemption. I pondered that for many months before coming understand and believe.

I also learned what "Kensai" means. The Sword Saints, as they are also called, are an elite order in our faith. They free the spirit within the blade and become one with its motion. I only hope that when the time comes, Hatu will ask me to join them in their unending chase of blade perfection.

I received "Truestrike" a few weeks ago. Truestike is a sword I have been entrusted to protect and use to defend against tyranny and oppression. I am now ready to enter the world. I have my faith, my training, my steel and my wits. Let's believe it is enough.

Finally, I learned what the priests know of my past. They told me only after I picked my weapon of choice. It turns out that in the "Civilized" world, the great falchion is an executioner's weapon. Apparently, my father was one of the best executioners ever employed by the local ruler. (How one becomes the best at taking a head of is beyond me.) He was constantly being given gifts to keep him in service. (Because the demand for executioners is so high??) One of the gifts he was give was with a slave girl named Renna, my mother.

After a hedonistic night of brutality and rape, my mother was left for dead on the streets. A few priests in the city on business happened upon her and brought her back to the temple for healing. She was nursed back to health, even as I grew inside her. She told her story to the priests and begged them to never reveal that the child was the executioners nor that she survived.

Shortly after I was born, Renna fled the temple and has been reported as being a prostitute on the streets of a nearby city. I know not if I will seek either my mother or father out, but at least now I know from where I came.

I still don't have a name for him, I am lloking for something strong sounding.

any hoo... PEACH away and be brutal. Thanks

Some name suggestions [or something like that]

Sir wilbrandt the chosen
Squire monsen the valiant
Sir erwin the questing
sir eliott the champion
Welnor of warwick

About the last part

His father was a brutal warrior in service of a renegade bandit-warlord.He slaughtered many and was full of bloodlust and rage.He slaughtered entire villages because they refused to surrender or tried to flee. His weapon was as notorious as him, an intelligent great falchion named headcutter. Many said it was this weapon which made his father as strong and bloodlusted

Your mother was one among his many victims. She was the daughter of a priest, she died at childbirth. But at your birth your grandfather and other priests saw a holy omen which told them you were destined for great things. So they decided to train you in the divine arts, so you could serve the cause of good as the omen had signified.

Eventually the bandit-warlord was killed by the king's armies and some adventurers, but the pc's father fled into the wilderness and nothing has been heard of him or his weapon till now. Some speculate that such a great evil won't die easily, while others say that the dangers of wilderness must have claimed him

His grandfather died when he was young, but he told his co-priests to take good care of you, but not to tell you anything of your past or your destiny until you were ready

A Paladin does not fight with weapons when he can fight with words. Above all a paladin follows his heart in what is right, Hatu will give him.

??? Hatu will give him what?

Other then that its very well written. Gives a good impression of life as child in the temple and of the pains and joys of growing up there. I especially like the bit of dogma that says freedom must be earned coming from such a clergy.

If you're not happy with the final bit how about making your father a slaver. Falchions are known well for executioners but also for pirates so if you grew up near the sea a pirate and slaver would be very appropriate.

Consider.

Finally, I learned what the priests know of my past. They told me only after I picked my weapon of choice. It turns out that in the "Civilized" world, the great falchion is a pirate weapon. Apparently, my father was one of the high commanders employed in a pirate guild. Though how one becomes the best at taking the freedom of others is beyond me. He took many lives both figuratively and literally. One of the lives he claimed ownership of was girl named Renna, my mother.

After a hedonistic night of brutality and rape, my mother was left for dead on the streets of a nearby port. A few priests in the city on business happened upon her and brought her back to the temple for healing. She was nursed back to health, even as I grew inside her. She begged the priests never to reveal what had happened to her, so that she might return to her former life.

Shortly after I was born, Renna left the temple. She claimed to be going home, though she never revealed where "home" was. I know not if I will seek either my mother or father out, but at least now I know from where I came.

Hatu will give guidance and strength.

Thank you both for yor suggestions. I am think of using something similar to Welnor of Warwick. I like the aliteration and the strength it infers. Terjon, that was the ending I needed. I wanted NPCs I could fleshout for the DM if he needed them, but I didn't want them too prominent and disturbing to the campaign.

I thought about this all weekend, not coming up with anything I liked. But I was pleasantly surprised this morning to find this post. Thank you. And thank you for the compliment.
