this is the build for my character all im missing is a really good back ground

i knida have a background but i think it might be cliche.

grew up hard life as a rogue some how only knew one parent (father) taught him skills to live. somehow his father is not around and he has too fend for himself at a young age. in a close incounter after stealing something he figured out he was good at throwing weapons and then started to use his skill to perform and show off.

thats the basic idea i have.

That's a good concept, I'd say. Add in that his father's an alcoholic and he sees his talent as a means of escape from his present life and you've got a classic "Rags to Riches" story in the making.

Perhaps his father was the local rat catcher, taught his son the trade but the son (you) dispised touching the filthy creatures and developed a good eye and great arm. A traveling acrobat group saw his skill and convinced him to join and taught him to throw with flair as well as skill.
nothing like an alcoholic rat catcher father to inspire one to jopin the circus.
For extra background guidance see the link in my sig. (here I go waving my own banner again :) )

The mother and father are a circus act. The father is the knife thrower with the mother on the spinning wheel. The father, an addictive gambler and alcoholic, is horribly in debt. To suppliment his income he teaches his son to pick pockets during the show.

Visits from collectors/thugs are not uncommon, but the father is so far behind on his payments that they threaten to kill the mother and take son until the debt is paid in full. The father is pretty worthless, but he's still a good man at heart and can't bear the thought of losing his wife and son. Scared and depressed the father drinks himself into a stupor. Afflicted by a raging hangover the father considers cancelling his show for the night, but knows that he must come up with some quick money to make a payment. Knowing that he's not at his best, the father goads the crowd into paying extra to see a special trick. The father has been practicing the trick but really isn't ready to perform it, even on a good day.

Without his wife, the father knows he doesn't have a show at all (and thus not income). Fearing that his son will be taken away (and mistreated), he leaves him at a church as the carnivale leaves town. The son spends a few days at the church but eventually leaves to try and find his father.

The son knows that if he could master the trick that killed his mother and catch up to the carnivale, he could earn the money needed to get his father out of debt. He travels the country trying to find his father. Along the way he practices throwing his knives. He steals some, but learns that he can make a decent living by performing (actual performances or hustling bets) in taverns. One night he is observed by a member of a Thieves Guild.

This background opens several doors:
-Circus background makes many skills plausible (tumble, bluff, sense motive, and all the "thief skills".
-Thieves Guild training.
-A future encounter with his father.
-A future encounter with his father's debtor.

No no no no no, he's a rogue that throws humans. Naturally.

Seriously though, play him as some really strong monster that throws humans as weapons. Do it.

But that would make him a rogue human thrower. Pay attention to the semantics, bro.

what are some other jobs that could be accomplished with throwing knives. rat catcher sounds good but i want some more ideas and options.

would there be any reason to be a killer for higher just curious because that would be really cool.

if not i still like the circus idea.

wait i got it. some how my father gets killed. thats the only parent left. mom some how isnt there. not knowing what else to he picks up a dagger and tracks his fathers assailent. the assailent is some one he would know. a common person seen around town. he finds him but he wastes his only dagger on him and only hits him the the arm the man pulls out the dagger and aproaches me as if he were going to kill me. he is about ready to strike but what seems to be a fellow citizen happens apon us. (this takes place in an alley)the fellow citizen kills the man by making him a pin cushion of daggers. the man slumps over the and blood trickles from his runes. having seen my second dead body am still scared but desensitized. the man saw that i had thrown my only dagger and offers to take me under his wind. he teaches me his skills throwing daggers and stealing. i quickly pick up on these skills and am excepted into the local but hidden assassin/master thrower guild. i perform executions (mostly merchants and other rich high ranking people) along with my payment from the guild i also take a share of the targets gold making me very wealthy and making death a normal thing in life.

edit i got some more to add
my character becomes interested in a certain girl. the said girl dies some how. the assailent gets away even with my skills. i spend tons of time trying to find my lovers assailent but cannot. to this day i am still in search.

wow thats kinda a long read but any critiques are welcome.

wait the assassin was not a town person just randomly walking around he was traveling from roof top to roof top when saw me throw my only dagger. then the story continues as normal.

also lets say i have a kid with the girl that i loved now the kid is growing up with me. again im teaching him the ways of the pick pocket and then throwing and assassination.

this makes it so if i die i kinda have a back up character or some one to pick up my legacy. it could also be a reason to buy weapons of legacy. i could pass down my dagger that i tried to kill my fathers assailent with.

I think it's all good except for the thought of making your weapon of legacy the knife you threw at that guy. It would make more sense if your character became particularly fond of a particular knife over the course of time he spent being an assassin. If that character dies at some point, I'd want to ask the DM to let the conciousness of the character live on in the knife while your new character (his son) weilds it. That might also be a bit over the top, but I'd like it.

the concious part would make for great roleplaying for the next character (my son). yeah it would make sense to have the weapon of legacy to be a blade that i used most often for assinations or it could be a set of daggers since i wouldnt use just one.

how is it over the top?

any other opinions?

that's quite a few doubleposts

I personally prefer the circus idea except I wouldn't make his parents people who worked there, how about sneaking into the circus to watch the show and pick a pocket or two? Getting caught by the halfling knife thrower who decides to not turn you in as long as you leave the things you stole (which you reluclantly do) and gets you interested in throwing knives, of course you can't match the precision that this professional has (He's a high level fighter with weapon focus and precise shot). He was taught how to miss people but when he is needing money he has no problems recollecting the lectures on why hitting someone in the abdomen is more dangerous than in the shoulder and uses this to his advantedge when he pierces their hearts with a well-placed dagger.

how is it over the top?

While it's a good idea for practicing and developing roleplaying skills, it seems an unlikely thing to happen, as there would have to be some explanation left as to the reason it was possible for his soul/conciousness to become encapsulated into the weapon. I think it would take a high-level wizard to be able to make such a thing happen, and finding one that would be willing to do so would be unlikely at best, depending on the way the storyline has progressed. It also seems a bit cliche (Think the Dean Cain Superman series in which his mom's soul was in a shard of Kryptonite).
