For the groups next FR campaign I'm planning to play a human male sorcerer. Now, I know FR favours wizards, and I know there are thousands of reasons as to why wizards are better than sorcerers and blah blah; but I want to make and play this character because of ROLEPLAYING, so no "why not make a wizard?" replies, ok? good.

Like I said, a human male sorcerer. Neutral or chaotic neurtal in alignment, tipping slightly towards the more "evil" end of neutrality. He'd be about 21 years, of noble (or maybe royal?) blood, uncomfortable in a commoners outfit, always insisting on eating and sleeping first class.

Exevious (his name) would be the typical "seducer and tempter"; although not nescesarily a womans man. I imagine this man to be highly narscisistic, and very compulsive in his behaviour (a natural 18 in charisma), if not slightly psychopathic. Behind his charming smile, his witty comments and humourous anectdotes, and his always- wlcome- compliments, is an urge to be the best, the most popular, the winner of every game. And he would sacrifice his own mother to be that winner.
Exevious is in secret a follower of Shar, hoping to one day be able to discover the shadow weave (his 3rd feat, if he not changes his personality), and maybe even be a shadow adept.
But Exevious is not the violent type. Most of his spells are enchantment and illution spells (charm person is his favourite so far), and he'd rather talk himself out of a conflict, than fight. If charming fails, he uses magic to his advantage (haven't decided on his second 1st level spell yet. I'm thinking Shield, to give him some AC and cover, but I'm not sure) or uses his trusty crossbow, stadning as far away from his opponent as possible, preferably when the opponent is turning his back on him.

Physical description:
Tall (5.11 maybe), blue eyed, and straight blonde hair, cut just above his shoulders, and (of course) slicked back.
Always wearing his favourite colour, black, he preferes expensive clothes, and lots of jewelery.

So, what sort of spells would such a man create and use?
And why was he ever a follower of Shar?
And what should be his purpose for adventure?
any other traits to make this character more original?

any sort of help is apreciated.

For what your looking for I would recommend the Sor :o)

Wizards are to much of a thinker your character is a doer!

He would adventure to build up wealth and prestige

Spells are upto you, I would get charm person and alter self among other things

If you want to follow shar and see that as part of the character you will want to pick up a feat called shadow weave magic

Yes, I'll pick up that feat at lv 3. His two first feats are still spell, and silent spell. I imagine a guy like him would prefere to cast his spells without anyone noticing.
I've decided that his second level1 spell is shield. This is simply so that he'll survive the encounters (he isn't able to charm monsters yet).

Alter Self was a good idea, gives him a more sneaky aproach to his doings. I'm also thinking about some fascinate, or duplicate or other illusion spells (like I said, this guy is not the violent type).
Do you know any other spells that weakens the enemy and/or gives the caster any kind of advantage in combat (or perhaps other situations)?

Detect thoughts is, of course, also a must for this man.

Well if your not violent but want to have a way to get out of conflicts why not pick up color spray. Its not a damaging spell and seams to go well with the idea you came up with.

Quick question, could you post his Int/Wis, sometimes they can give you ideas about how a character acts.

Another nice spell for this character might be Shadow Spray from MoF, its not a real damaging spell but its usefull in combat and out of combat as well.

As for why he follows Shar, maybe a member of his family was a powerful wizard or sorcerer who tapped into the shadow weave. Maybe he feels am obligation to pick up that family memebers legacy. Maybe that family member was very powerful and he seeks that same power for himself. The kind of character your talking about sounds like he would make a good manipulative Baron when his father dies...

Well thats about it for now...

Wizards better?

I would have to disagree, but this is my personal opinion. Even though sorcerers get fewer spells, they can switch them out. In other words when they are level 40 they can get rid of some of the lower level direct damage spells and take some utility spells. That and the fact that they dont have to memorize spells beforehand so they can cast what they need when they need it.

Sorry, I got a little off topic.. And he worshipped Shar?

Maybe you can make him a Calishite

Sure, arloon, I'll give you all his stats:

str:8
dex:16
con15:
int:14
wis:13
cha:18
(notice that I got 13, 14, 15 and 16. When I rolled the stats, I got these numbers in a row. My DM was like

shadow spray sounds really cool, I'll just have to get my hands on the MoF (think maybe my DM has it)

I've decided that he is noble, a son of a rich baron, with a long tradition for wizardry in his family lines. Sent to wizard school at the age of 15; Exevious found out that he was a sorcerer and, much to his family's dismay, chose the path of sorcery instead.
He has an older brother who is a guild wizard of waterdeep, a very respected member of the family and also the hier to the baron title.

I'm thinking that maybe jealousy drove him to worship Shar, and that being both a sorcerer AND a shadow weave wielder would make him the complete opposite of his brother. Of course, Exevious' greatest dream would be to become a shadow adept.

But I have to be carful so that I don't make this character completely EVIL, as he is supposed to be neutral. Do you think the motive is to evil?
Perhaps it should just be curiosity instead.

campaign starts in two weeks, thanks y'all :)
