I'm trying to make a character that gives an aura of strength, the dark general as such. plate the size of a wall, and a sword the size of a tree, don't mess with me stuff. i tried to get the setting right, first introduction (we rerolled a new party pretty much) and it collapses. I get kicked, and i'm carried out on the sorcerers back.

now, after an ending like that, i'm stumped on how to build up the 'powerful person' impression, after the first adventure resulting in 3 total misses (rolled ones) and a through beating.

so... how to demand respect from a sorcerer who saved my life? and another yet unknown person? am i doing this wrong? your thoughts please!

It makes for a hell of a story to work with...

Seems like your best approach at the moment is to admit that your character was just posing, and now his main goal is to become kickass enough to demand some respect, dammit. :P

The problem with him being genuinely badass is...you blew it. It's going to be difficult to come back from getting a severe butt-whooping, and since that was their first impression of you, it's even worse. No matter what you do now, they'll think you're compensating for something. Sorry to rain on your dreams, but that's about the only conclusion I'm coming up with.

You could always claim you have been cursed and as such foul magic has hampered your true ability. Go through some sort of clensing ritual (real or posed) like three days holding a rock over your head whilst chanting the name of your god or something like that. After that you had better be getting some good rolls or it will be ll for nothing and you will have to admit to being a poser as suggested by Adrian_Crane.

You could try hiring someone to pretend to attack you and you challenge them to single combat and then hand them a beating in front of your companions. It is kind of low but one way of building your reputation again. It depends on your alignment aswell.

Hey, I feel your pain.

Though, I wasn't going for a super tough guy, I am the only warrior type character in our party (only 3 players and a DM).

I would say I spend about 70% of the combat time on my back making stabilization rolls.

My poor swashbuckler, Zorro would be ashamed :weep:

If your character really is badass (and it was just those natural 1's that messed you up) then just make sure ur next fight is a doozy. If u are evil i'd pick a fight with someone who is weaker than you and mess them up.

Get some ranks in intimadate. Whats cooler than scaring your enemies so bad that they don't fight you in the first place?

Trust me. I always play an upfront fighter and have never needed to be ressurrected.

First of all, thanks for your help.

I'm sorry that I didn't mention my alignment, I really should of. it's chaotic evil (sp?).

i've already began bringing up the ranks in intimidate, and i'm currently sorting out battleplans so I don't end up on my back.

I'm going to keep the poser ideas for if I take a hammering twice in a row.

and finally... thanks again!
