Well

I havnt made a character in like......a long time, and even then that was 2nd edition AD&D. It would be great if someone could tell me or give me a link to a site that could show me how to make a D&D 3.5 (rougue) character from scratch.

Well, first of all a lot depends on your DM. In my group we have a lot of house rules (yes, some people hate them, I know), so a few things are a little different. We roll stats rather than the point-buy system.

I don't know any sites that might help, so.. well let's just start out with the basic stuff I think everyone should figure out before getting down to the nitty gritty of putting a character on paper.

Firstly, you need to determine what's going to be your rogue's motif. I currently have a sneaky-rogue, so my main attribute is Dexterity, for hide and move silently. But for rogues, there are several options, with different key attributes. The "face" is another one I really enjoy playing, relying on charisma more than anything else and being the party negotiator, fast-talker, and so forth. But it's only a really useful aspect if the party is going to spend time around people.

I'd suggest taking a good look at class skills and determining what kind of rogue you want to be, which skills would be appropriate for that, and what the linked attribute for that skill would be. Another consideration is how combat-oriented you want to be. Rogues have sneak attack, so strength isn't too terribly important for damage. But you might consider still having a high dexterity and taking the feat Weapon Finesse, allowing you to add your dexterity to your attack bonus rather than your strength. Now our house rule is that if you can successfully argue your case to the DM about being able to use your dexterity with a weapon, then it's applicable to the feat. Axes, probably not.

As for the technical about it, that's a bit hard for me to get into here.. I'm horrible at explaining things without having any sort of material reference to point at.

There's no Rougue class in D&D, do you mean a Rogue??

Helpful post! :detect:
Anyway, What kind of Rogue would you like to make? You can make a thug, a thief, a 2nd story man, a combat specialist...you can make an assassin (not the class, just a rogue)...you can do anything! Give us something to go on!

The primary difference you are going to notice in 3.5 vs. 2nd edition is that character building is much more intensive. It comes down to what you want our character to be able to do. In short you are asking the wrong question. Ask yourself what you want your character to be able to do, or his specialty. When you have an answer to that, along with other pertinent information such as point buy amount or stats if rolled, starting level, books available for use, any house rules that may effect things. There are a myriad of rogue builds, in order for the boardies to help you you have to narrow the spectrum just a smidge.
