| RabidPirateMan08-18-07, 09:45 PM | I juggle as a hobby, and I got the idea to make a juggling PC. I have two ideas so far: One is a Bard/Master Thrower. I figure that he can be juggling some balls, and then when an enemy comes by, he tosses them at him. Cool, right? The other is a Bard/Barbarian. He juggles clubs. Great clubs. Any ideas? |

If you're considering a performer type, a level of swashbuckler for the free weapon finesse and tumble skill works well. Take three levels of swash if you have a good intelligence to get the ability to add your Int modifier to your damage with finesse weapons. Two levels of ranger would give you the combat styles. Either take the 2-weapon fighting and use a feat slot for Rapid Shot, or the archery route to get Rapid Shot and use a feat for 2-weapon fighting. Weapon Focus cut's down on the penalties for 2-weapon fighting, especially if you use two of the same weapon. The concept of a juggler pretty much screams for things like precise shot and rapid shot, and they're prereq's for the master thrower class. If you went with the throwing axe, it'd give you some hand-to-hand ability as well. Hm, depending on just how min/maxed ya wanna get, maybe something like this - Start as a rogue, mainly for the insane skill points. Max out tumble, jump, bluff, sleight of hand, etc. and throw some ranks into perform (juggle). Since you're not a thief, unless you want the usual skills spread the rest around into whatever might be useful - if ya got the spare points, a few cross-class points in heal is never bad. The extra d6 sneak attack can come in handy, and even works at short range as well. Go with a human and start with point blank shot and precise shot. Take a level of swashbuckler for the 4 skill points and free weapon finesse. At third level, take a level of ranger (even more skill pts.) and grab rapid shot for your 3rd level feat. Take another level of ranger to get the 2-weapon style and you're getting two shots per round whether you're throwing or swinging. (By the way, the wording of the rapid shot feat is interesting - depending on how you interpret it, you could theoretically swing both throwing axes and then toss one (since it's a ranged weapon), if you wanted to take a total of -4 to your attacks for the round, then use quickdraw to re-arm yourself) At fifth level, another level of either rogue or swashbuckler depending on whether you want to go sneaky or straight fighting - if ya really want to munchkin it, take fighter for either weapon focus or quickdraw. At sixth level, go for another level of whatever you took last time. 3rd level rogue gets 2d6 sneak atack, swashbuckler gets insightful strike (Int. modifier to damage). Taking weapon focus as your sixth level feat would finish the requirements for the master thrower class. At seventh level, you can enter the master thrower class with some serious feats and enough skill points to grab whatever cross-class skills you want to flesh out the character outside of combat. On the more performance oriented side, putting a couple levels of swashbuckler on the bard/master thrower would be cool, too. |

He (or she) could've gotten their start in a Halfing traveling circus, maybe a patron or angry townspeople ("we don't want those types in our town!") started getting violent and your character started defending themselves or others. Interesting character background, especially if your character is the only survivor of the accident. Also, I'd say watch the Desperado scene with the knife-throwing assassin to get you inspired. |

Not only is Sleight of Hand useful, but it already lets you juggle: "You can also use Sleight of Hand to entertain an audience as though you were using the Perform skill. In such a case, your “act” encompasses elements of legerdemain, juggling, and the like." I'm fairly sure there are some feats and skill tricks that could mesh with this and Sleight of Hand. |
