Hi all,

I play a Dwarven Cleric of Moradin. Each week I try to come up with a new prayer of healing to use during the game session. It is starting to get hard to come up with new ideas. Here is may current healing prayer.

Mighty Moradin, fuse this broken bone and flesh in your holy fires.

Can anyone come up with something better. Please keep prayers to a limit of one sentence, as no-one wants a Cleric babbling healing chants for ten minutes.

Thanks

Dwarves, Cleric or not, shouldn't be getting THAT drunk after just a 'few ales'.

Sticking to forge and earth imagery is a good idea. When writing prayers or what-not for gods, try using their titles instead of their names for added flavor.

"Mighty All-Father, forge my ally anew in the fires of purity!"

"May the spirits of my clan, back to the Forge King himself, mend your wounds!"

"Great Moradin, King of Kings, by your sovereign power I restore my ally to vigor once again!"

Hi All,

Ront Iron-Roar, I have tryed something like that when I was very tired at about 1.30 am. It goes something like this,

"Arh hmm, what is the name of my god again?"

Lanoitakude, thanks for the prayers. You make a good point, I will try to use titles like: Soul forger, Father, All-Father, Creator, Dwarffather and Holy Blacksmith.

Thanks

To a Dwarf a few ales are a few kegs.

Hmmmmmmm....

Maybe your Dwarf has a special name for Moradin? St. Steel perhaps?

How about this as a healing prayer.

Father allow your creative powers to flow into my healing hands.

I'd revise it to say...

I call upon the power of the Father!

or

Father, I call upon your healing powers!

Saying 'creative powers' sounds a bit odd when read aloud.
No offense.

Hi All,

ericSHINRA thanks for the pointer, I will take the advise and use it.

MikEye, I do not think that you are taking attention away from the thread I started. My First intention was to get help for myself, as a Cleric you cast so many healing spells that running out of cool things to say happens very quickly.

So If anyone can help MikEye or any Cleric player with new prayers for healing, please post them on this Thread.

Thank you everyone.

Ah, St. Cuthbert is one of my favorite gods. I had a Crusader of Cuthbert who's favorite line was: "No one is above the law, not even a god!"

For Cuthbert, stick to dictum-like phrases, mandates, or laws. Use words like: justice, might, soveriegnty, authority, etc.

"It is by justice that all things prevail!"

"By the Higher Law that guides my hand, I restore you to life!"

"As the laws of mortals tremble before The Grand Judge's heavy gavel, I bring thee to justice."

"Retribution is the basis of all law." (direct quote from St. Cuthbert himself. It was with this line that he ascended from godling to greater diety. Source: Fiendish Codex II)

sometimes, simply calling out "Guilty!" can be effective.

I'm currently playing a NE Cleric of Afflux (Libris Mortis) if anyone wants to toss some ideas about prayers for that god.

For Moradin, earth and forge/fire imagery are good. Also, isn't he the father/protector of the race. A cleric of this deity would likely make reference to that in casting defensive or buff spells.

I have a glacier dwarf cleric of Aengrist in a Frostfell game my wife is running; I could use some prayer suggestions for him. wink wink. :)

I am not familiar with the god Aengrist, if you could fill me in on his portfolio, domains, and outlook, I could come up with some prayers and what-not for you.

Since this thread is now open (and I enjoy writing stuff like this), feel free to post any god you'd like help with, and I'll try to come up with some cool catch-phrases and prayers. If they are not a PHB god, just list the portfolio, domains, alignment, titles, and favored weapon.

Hi All,

I think the Diety Aengrist is lawful good. Domains are: Law, Protection, War and Winter. Aengrist is an arctic god. Do not know any titles or favored weapon. Wild_Card, you will have to give use the rest.

Prayer (Aengrist):

"TITLE", let your cold breath ease the pain of suffering.

Now the Diety Afflux is neutral evil. Titles are: Bloodfather, Bloodspiller, Unsatisfied and Questioner. Do not know the domains or favoured weapon. Lanoitakude can you fill in the rest as you have helped me a lot, I would like to try and help you.

Prayer (Afflux):

Burn flesh Bloodfather and sear this open tear.

Might be a bit tame for Afflux.

Aengrist is a deity from Frostburn. He is Lawful Good (unusual among frostfell deities) and Domains are Law, Protection, War, and Winter. Favored weapon is the bastard sword. He is the patron of the Knights of the Iron Glacier, an order of knights dedicated to his memory when he fell in an ambush laid by orc barbarians. His remaining followers built a fortress on that spot, dedicated to the memory of General Aengrist; this hero-worship eventually elevated him to deity.

Clerics of Aengrist try to prevent barbarian uprisings against civilization and thugs from turning frontier towns into criminal empires. These clerics also built cathedral-fortresses not only to spread the god's teachings, but also to provide defensible havens for the locals.

My character- Khazbū, son of Ardūn- is a glacier dwarf who went to an Iron Glacier stronghold to establish a cider brewery there. He learned about Aengrist and became one of his priests.

Okay, I'll lay down more backround for Afflux.

He appears as a pale man draped in a cloak of ever-dripping blood that never runs dry.

Alignment: NE

His domains are Deathbound, Undeath, Evil, and Knowledge

Favored weapon: Short sword

His symbol is the crimson blood droplet.

He is the patron of torturers, mad scientists, and any who are willing to dive into the dark corners of the universe and the flesh in search of knowledge (usually forbidden knowledge).

A couple lines I have used for my cleric follow. I keep them simple and cryptic, because Afflux is a rather abscure god.

"Blood calls to blood."

"The blood is the life."

"You will not die this day, the Bloodfather has a purpse for you still..."

-----

Okay, Aengrist time. This god sounds freak'n sweet, by the way.

On to business. Prayers for Aengrist sound like they should focus on honor and sacrifice, as well as the defense of the weak. The cold aspect of him seems to be somewhat unimportant in comparison to Law, Protection, and War.

Not to step on any toes, but a lot of the imagery could be borrowed from Christian concepts of sacrifice.

"Aengrist fell by the hands of our enemies that today we may protect the weak from that same evil grasp!"

"May the sanctified blood, spilt at the hands of chaos, of the great Fore-Warrior cleanse you of affliction!"

"Your wounds are nothing compared to those suffered by The Great Hewer of Orcs, be restored and fight anew!"

"The mountains themselves will wear away before I allow evil and chaos to spread in the lands of Law!"

Suggestion for a Moradin healing prayer:

Not sure if there is a 'Dwarf' language out there on the internet to abuse.

I know there is a couple for versions of elvish. One based on Tolkeins and another based on what has come out through D&D (which seems to be a mix of Tolkein's and WotC).

I am currently playing a Drow cleric worshipper of Eilistraee (collective sigh, yeah yeah...). The nice thing is that there is a fair amount of 'Drowic'. I started using the Drow words in her prayers. She will use terms like 'Maiden', 'Moon Maiden', 'Sword Maiden', 'Lady', 'Dark Lady', 'Dark Maiden' (in Drowic of course) and terms like 'grace', 'mercy', 'love', 'strength', 'blessing', 'light' (again in Drow).

It comes out something like:

'Ossoth Ilharess elamshinae...yada yada yada' (Dark Lady's grace...)

I make the whole prayer in Drowic. VERY rarely I will use words from one of the two 'Elvish' languages available. Drowic is a offshoot of Elvish, so I am good with that, on occasion.

I use english, too, but I try to keep her spells and powers using what little Drow language I have access to.

If you cannot find a 'Dwarf' language...maybe use a good old Nordic tongue (Norwegian, Swedish, Danish) for flavor. Heck, even Old English is pretty appropriate.

2 pennies,

Doji

Hi All,

Here are a few ideas for Lanoitakude and the diety Afflux.

Waste not the blood of the Lord.

Knowledge is power, open your mind and your wounds will seal.

Generic healing prayer.

Knit the bone, blood and flesh of the fallen.

Well that is all I have for now.

Perhaps a variation on Alan Shepard's prayer right before he became the first America to go into space. For example, my NG cleric of Mystra:

"Mother of Magic, I beg of thee, please don't let me screw up."

In preparation for attacks:

"Lady, make me swift and accurate. Let my weapon strike true and my blows be telling."

I could use some help with my current cleric and his prayers, he is a Human Cleric of the Sovereign Host in Eberron. The domains I currently use are Sun and War and his personality is that of a more militant cleric. Now while his main holy symbol is that of the Sovereign Host, he also carries a little holy symbol of each god within the Host (this is used to for some comical RP fun).
Prom

04-27-07, 08:48 PM
Hi All,

MattBlacke, nice to have your input. I do not know anything about Mystra. Can you give me some background on Mystra?

Kitaki, I do not follow Eberron and know very little of Sovereign Host. How does this sound to you as a war and fire (sun) based prayer.

Burn the steel from flesh and bleed no more.

It's times like these that I wish I had a book of poetry.

For the poster with the Icy God:

Healing:

May thy frosty breath numb our pains.

Harming/Cursing:

May [deity] wrack your body with freezing cold
[deity] will give you frostbite on your [body part/"privates" are funny] that never ceases to itch.

Protection:

Let the winds of [icy place/deities realm] protect us
Make my armor as solid as your ice [deity]

Taunting:

Did you forget your mittens?
Do I have to freeze your lips together to quit yer yapping?

For Moradin: Soul-Forger, recast the strength of your child!. Of course, you couldn't get away with having your cleric address an elf as a child of Moradin, but it could be good for use on other dwarves.

For turning undead: By the pure flames of Moradin's forge, burn!. I'm rather fond of the "Burn!" part, myself.

For the cold deity: Let your divine snows cool the pain of this wound. No exclamation point here: it just seems more solemn, I don't know why.

For Afflux: Clot the blood, sear the flesh, leave not your scar, Bloodletter.
Eh... not terribly original. Maybe if you chant it. But better than: Afflux, um... when you touch this guy, please don't make it worse, okay? (a god of blood and evil doesn't seem the healing type)

For rebuking/bolstering undead:Bloodless ones, obey! By the Blood Lord, I will lead you to meat! Oooh... this one scares me a little.

hope it helps!

Hi all,

Good work helping Prom with his cleric's prayers. It's sad that Brock died. He was slain by a tomb spider and when his body was found later, it was mutilated so as to prevent it from rising again as a mummy. :ahem:

Brock has been replaced by a "walking band-aid" named Tara Pendragon. She is an aasimar (lesser) cleric of Pelor with the Sun and Healing Domains. She also has the Augment Healing feat. She also wields a jovar when she is injuring the evil in order to prevent them from injuring the good. :smirk:

Anyway, I could use some help coming up with some actual written prayers. I've just been sort of making them up on the spot, and the other day, Prom remarked, "Mine were better."

I replied, "Well, yes, because you prepared yours ahead of time." :P ;)

I guess prayers by an aasimar cleric of Pelor would really play up the whole sunlight/daylight/warmth of the sun sort of thing, eh?

I'll be interested to see what people come up with. And Prom, you're welcome to help out here too if interested.

Cheers,

I love the surname for Tara, just to let you know. Pendragon... it's just neat.

Anyways, for a cleric of sun and healing, how about: Pelor, all the earth is nurtured by your light and warmth. Let healing light fill this child of the sun

or A warm fire to heal your scars, brother

and for smiting undead: Be overcome by the purity of sunlight! (I don't like this one as much, but you said she was a band-aid, so...)

Gee, makes me want to play a cleric :P

Actually, that sounds perfect for my character. He's a warrior-cleric of Wee Jas with a cynic vision of life and who dislikes touching bleeding people.

Besides, serious prayers in Portuguese sound a little ridiculous. My plan is to use Sigur Rós song titles for most of my spells. Come on, "Višrar Vel Til Loftįrįsa" does sound like a spell verbal component, doesn't it? It matters little it actually means "a good weather for airstrikes" or something like that.

Since this thread seems like it's turned into an open call for cleric prayers, I could use some help. I have an evil Cleric who worships Rain as an element. So healing spells are pretty easy to rattle off extemporaneously. May the rain wash away your ills/clean your wounds/purify your body, etc.

But he's evil. Healing isn't his thing. I'm looking for ideas for prayers for offensive and combat spells. Inflict, command, sanctuary, spiritual weapon, hold person, and of course any other spell that inspires you.
MikEye

07-03-07, 02:51 AM

Here's an excerpt from my old poems
"Burn your brain in the acid rain, feel the pain before you go insane"
And another one
"Your blood as cold as the rain, every drop a knife at your neck"

Some evil rain prayers

Let death rain down on them
It's raining, better run for cover
Let It rain fire [flamestrike]
Let the venomous rain peel away their flesh
Fall - Tainted rain, that will drown their souls
Tears of my dark lady, rain down on these feeble beings
Feel the cold touch of the rain goddess

Thanks. I'll be tweaking and swiping some of those lines, Warwinner.

To answer your question Mike, there is no deity. He just worships rain itself. The clerics in the campaign I'm playing (DarkSun) worship one of the elements (fire, water, earth, air) or paraelements(sun, silt, magma, rain). As such, there's no real dogma or churches for clerics aside from obvious connections to the elements themselves.
