Ideas for playing a "non-good" cleric-rogue character? [Archive] - Wizards Community

I am trying to flush out a concept in my mind and am looking for people's suggestions to help out.

I want to play a cleric - rogue character (who is either neutral or evil but not good). I want this character to primarily cast spells based on DC's and not buffing, utility, healing, or defensive spells?

I have a high wisdom and dex score, so I view my character as a sneaky guy who can deliver devastating cleric spells (even though there are not many of them)

How have people played this type of character? Is this a workable concept considering you lose spell advancement by multiclassing?

Also what characterisitcs did your character have? For example: domains, choice of weapon, teats, mannerisms, etc.

Thanks

That would be much like a CharOp board question....

MasterOfPsychic,

In retrospect I probably phrased the quesstion/request wrong, in that I am really looking for concepts and not optimization techniques....for example I am looking for what people "liked to play" and what they did to support how they wanted to play that concept." I don't care if it is optimized or not.

For example, if someone said "I really enjoyed playing a cleric of Wee Jaus (spellling is probably wrong), and combined it with thieving skills, here are the following things I found enjoyable and what mechanically I did to make that concept a reality....."

Once again I was looking for character concepts and how people flushed out those concepts.....I was not looking for optimiation techniques...

one of the easiest ways to work an evil cleric-rogue is a "lawyer" type character who worships a lawful deity, but twists the laws(especially if said deity is highly respected in the campaign world, like st cuthbert, for example)

other examples could be some sorta almost vampiric character, by melding rogues stealthy affinity with spells like harm. silenced harm especially. come out of the shadows, lightly touch the heretic upon the back, and your work is practically done for you. especially with imp.unarmed strike, so you can actually punch them, to add sneak attack too.(though I'm not sure if the sneak attack would resolve "before"or "after" the harm damage that can never actually KO an opponent)

and then there's the typical FR example- the black flame zealot. combining fanatacism and stealth make for a perfect holy assassin, and if you have access to FR books or complete divine, this should be a perfect(if somewhat stereotypical) choice...

I wouldnt recommend not using buffs, though. buffs are useful for everyone, and one way to win your party over, as well as augment yourself. not using such a large portion of your spells is like being a fighter, taking feats like "disarm" and "trip", and then not using them...

the trickery domain(a classic for the crafy, evil priest) has invisibility, I beleive....

anyways, good gaming
