yes thats right a drow paladin. I have a good idea of what my charecter's personality is (naturally alot of internal struggle), but I'm still havng a hard time trying to get the persona across to the other group members. He has alot of Charisma, and somehow ended up the natural leader of the group, so he has to make alot of decisions, not to mention the fact of being a drow while upholding the ideals of good.
if anyone has had a charecter in a similar situation or has any ideas on ways to present his persona would be greatly appreciated.

It depends on the campaign of course. I once played in an old 2E campaign with some odd exceptions where the DM allowed a half drow paladin. (note the character wasn't mine) Leadership and patience went hand in hand, especially since most of the campaign was in elvin (non drow) lands and he had to prove himself everywhere he went. But prove himself he did, and he had the confidence of many by the time drow wars began to hit the lands.

Paladins do good and command great influence. It is therefore reasonable to assume that paladins love being loved, but this is not always the case. Indeed to do good without any obvious reward is the highest reward a paladin can obtain. It sounds odd, but we are talking about paladins. ;)

Francis of Assisi used to have an expression called "true joy." He would suggest that doing good is nice, doing good and receiving no reward is better, but doing good while at the same time being misunderstood and despised is the ultimate, and is "true joy."

This is the type and spirit of goodness that would work well with a drow paladin. A goodness of humility in stark contrast with the normal arrogant evil of drow. If you are going to invert the sterotype, do it all the way!

If I were DM, I would make your character really, really earn a good reputation. I'm a believer in certain archtypes. When a story begins to circulate of a drow who does good works in the name of a good god, people are going to chalk that up to some drunken and bored bard making things up.

Advice for playing him? Well, wear your god's symbol like a billboard! Its your basic flag of truce everwhere you go. Assuming greyhawk, if you are a paladin of heironious or corellon, you better make it known, quick. Else, the first welcome you may get is incoming arrows.

Yeah, my DM has done that....The one time I was lucky I rolled a natural 20 to charm a bunch of sailors with torches ect....*whew* useally I stick to the night and underdark for said reasons......also my diety is Eldastray (I have no clue of spelling, the good drow one), so I am trying to incorperate the core values of that religon into my charecter. Thanks for the advice

Do you mean Eilistraee? (That's pronounced EEL-iss-TRAY-yee if you wanted to know.) She's a hot babe for a lesser power. If there's any goddess you want to bang, she'd be on the top of my list. :P ;) :D

My suggestion would be to play an insane CN half-drow/half-high elf paladin of anarchy (see Dragon #310), but eh, that's me.

it'd be easier if you were a surface drow :)

read I believe Dragon 298, it really discusses how tough it is for good drow. And maybe take an alternative paladin as mentioned in Dragon 310
