| grasharm09-22-07, 11:49 PM | I want an idea for a good exotic weapon for an oriental type game. The basic background is that he is from a Ronin family that used an exotic weapon That is going to be an ancestral weapon. I'm 6th level so I have plenty of money to dump into it right now. His family was part of a previous shogun's inner circle before he was defeated 4 generations ago. The family then combined with one of the winning sides ninja clans but never took to the way of the ninja. The instead developed their own style and basically have aided their ninja protectors since they were taken in in their own way. I'm still working on char. he may be a duskblade or an ardent at this point. I haven't deiced but I think that they could work with that history. Also if you think the weapon should have any special properties based on the design please include that. |

(Although, if I correctly understand the way the weapon is wielded IRL, it should probably be a two-handed finessable weapon that can deal your choice of bludgeoning or slashing damage.) Alternatively, you could use one of the normal simple, martial, or exotic weapons and simply use Oriental flavor. Get a bastard sword and call it a "katana". Get a glaive and call it a "naginata". Remember that Samurai were well-known not only for swordsmanship, but also archery and mounted combat. |
| Terjon of the Blue Rose09-23-07, 04:27 AM | No! This can't be! Fithero will be so disappointed! :weep:I've been beaten to a suggestion.:weep: I suppose I'll just second the Kasuri-Gama. |
| Fithero09-23-07, 09:39 AM | Well, as i always say, you gotta have a few lows to appreciate the highs :P I guess ill back the Kasuri-Gama too, i was going to say something like a sai or just be a shuriken throwing machine.... but the Kasuri-Gama sounds like it'd be a sweet idea. That or a Caber.... i dont think ive ever even heard of a character using a caber before :D "He hit me. With a tree! - A dazed Krusk (Taken straight from Masters of the Wild) |
| Morka09-24-07, 01:37 PM | I have an idea. I think I actually submitted this idea to Fithero a while back, he wanted some NPCs to be "killed" in a dark story... If it sounds a bell to any of you and still have some info on this, please help! The Lajatang of Equilibrium. Basically, this is a double weapon, one side Holy, the other side Unholy; only a LN character could use it. A while ago, the familly to whom this weapon belong split in two, a good side and an evil side; the Lajatang felt in the Good side, who fled far away. Now, the Evil side want it back, but doesn't know he wouldn't be able to use it... |
| albinomonkeyking09-24-07, 02:25 PM | I once made a character in feudal game that fought with tonfas. Great fun if monk-esque is what you are going for. I wish I had more ideas for you. Maybe a fan? Or was that Chinese? Now I'm confused. |

War fans are another interesting choice. (I know there's at least one version statted out in Sandstorm. There may be others.) If I recall correctly, Samurai carried war fans for a while after swords were outlawed. |
| Karsil_Draken09-24-07, 06:41 PM | Ronin family Thats Samurai, right? a Leaderless/masterless Samurai But their family was in league with ninjas? If I got my story books right, this is somewhat of a contradiction. Samurai is the emperors/a master(a shogun) soldiers and ninja a farmer rebels that got tired of getting killed for political reasons... I might be wrong.. EDIT: I was wrong. At least reading on wikipedia tells me that its a tradition, and mostly a name for the ninjutsu trained individuals that performed different assasination and espionage and outright combat actions against rivalling groups of samurai. So I guess they were alot like the Navy Seals or SAS ...Karsil |

So, the family took their martial training to the highest bidder. |

If it is not statted anywhere I think the Spiked chain stat line would work fine except make it Bludgeoning rather than piercing. Of all the weapons I have ever seen used the Three piece rod is the scariest. It is from China, but it's D&D so who is really going to be that picky. | grasharm09-30-07, 11:58 AM | Thanks for the ideas all. Due to emergency (cancer related) I had to put gaming on hold for a while. My friends understood and I seem to have missed one hell of a Cosmic Encounter tournament (point based) while I was gone. I like the ideas but I was looking for something more fantasy like if that makes sense. I don't need stated weapons as I'll do that myself. I don't know how to say it other than I don't really want a real weapon but something strait out of imagination or heavily modified in some way for some purpose. For now I'll build with the strong front runner but if someone has some idea the dropped in favor of already printed or a real life weapon I'd like to hear it. Thanks for your imput guys. |
